Bionifight Infinite Discussion

ANNOUNCEMENT

Sometimes life grabs us by the eyeballs and then chucks us out of the window. Today, we must acknowledge that it has done this to one of our staff members.

When I first started the planning for what would become Bionifight Infinite, I got the roughest, sketchiest ideas down before contacting Blade, whom had the valuable experience of hosting successful RPGs in the past that I sorely lacked. While the two of us were able to come up with a good frame of reference for transitioning the existing Bionifight formula into an RPG, we struggled to come up with a story that would fit, or goals that the characters could have. I also remained skeptical that two members would be enough to keep the RPG afloat; even in the past, I had struggled to keep up during the run of Bionifight Ultimate with a co-host working alongside me. As such, I decided that a third staff member would be absolutely necessary to get the RPG off of the ground, and there was only one choice in my mind. That choice was Chro.

It was simple, really. While he did not have experience hosting an RPG, or even as much experience hosting games as I did, he did have experience. In addition, he had consistently remained involved with the fan-updates for Bionifight Ultimate and Bionifight Ultimate: Drift Force - to the point where I had actually already gotten into contact with him about ways to revitalize the latter. With the RPG rapidly taking my time, however, I decided to set the G&T iterations of Bionifight aside, and invited Chro aboard. Over the course of the next month, Chro proved to be extremely useful in helping us to iron out story ideas, coming up with what would eventually become the main story beats and helping me to create and refine the Infinite Gems after which the RPG is named. He retained a willingness to accept criticism and the ability to stand his ground, providing a solid foundation of reason for us to turn to when we needed him - and he accepted the burden of being placed in charge of the combat rounds while Blade and I focused on events outside of the arena.

Chro has made the decision to resign today, due to shifting interests and increasing obligations to activities outside of BZPower. After spending much of his time dedicated to this RPG since mid-December, I bid him a fond farewell and hope that you will all do the same.

With Chro retiring, however, there are now vacancies. For the next several months, I shall be taking control over the Host; I shall also be managing the War Games, although future rounds will be played by ear. There remains a vacant staff position, however, that I would prefer to have filled as soon as possible.

Luckily, this can be taken care of rather quickly. Several weeks ago, when I was still unsure whether I would have reliable access to BZPower this summer, I put out a call for help to the players, hoping that they could help us run a special summer event. Two players answered the call, and they have been working tirelessly with us ever since to make it huge. The “summer event” that we had originally planned on has grown into something far, far larger in scale, although that is unfortunately all that I can say for now. Suffice it to say that it is epic.

I would like to officially welcome both Xaeraz and Ehks onto the staff team of Bionifight Infinite. Ehks will officially join us in a few weeks and shall then remain on the staff team for the summer months, while Xaeraz shall be taking Chro’s place starting now as the third pillar of our staff team. The two of them shall be working alongside Blade and myself to make sure that the upcoming months go smoothly, and I hope that, once it starts, you will enjoy the ride.

So here is to farewells and new beginnings.

Landfall.

TL;DR - Chro is retiring, Xaeraz & Ehks are being hired on as staff.

(I apologize for any spelling/grammatical errors)

I've decided to scrap Achilex and try this guy instead.

Name: Velix

Species: Ve-Toa. Toa of Speed

Power/Weapon 1: Element of Speed. ALlows him to add or drain speed from objects, but not change direction.

Power/Weapon 2: Speed Skates. An oft-used law enforcement tool in his home-universe, these skates channel Velix's Speed powers to allow him to 'skate' about six inches off the ground at extremely high speeds. However, they do not turn or stop well.

Power/Weapon 3: He carries modified disk launcher that launches specially serrated disks with spinning. Velix uses his power to turn these disk into spinning buzzsaws of death by greatly amplifying their rotation. He usually carries three of the special disks.

Appearance: He is relatively small for a Toa, and is colored sand brown and white. His disk launcher is magnetically clipped to his back, along with the disks. AS is the custom with Ve-Toa, his mask is in the shape of a mask that carries some connotation of SPeed, in this case a Kakama.

Bio: Velix was once a police officer of an utopian futuristic world, but one day ended up in Bionifight. He has been through several tournements, and considers it a good things to show newbies(As he calls them) the ropes.

Personality/Other: He speaks in a breezy tone, with a bit of Runtalk, a shorthand used by Ve-Matoran and Toa, opting for efficiency.

Name: Lefia

Species:Ce-Toa

Power/Weapon 1: Psi-Blade: Similar to the Mindarm dicipline of the Dasaka, Lefia can generate a telekinetic weapon of various sizes, shapes, etc, making it semi-visible via a psionic illusion. She can make two at a time, at most. She can only make weapons she can imagine or has seen before, and cannot make projectile weapons or weapons with many moving parts.

Power/Weapon 2: Charisma: By lacing her words with subtle Psionics, Lefia can convince just about anyone of anything. Strong-willed  beings can resist this, but due to the way the powers piggyback on the words, mental defenses are ineffective.

Power/Weapon 3: Psionic Occlusion: Using her powers, Lefia can prevent people from noticing her. Instead of true invisibility, she only becomes extremely obscure and hard to notice. The power deactivates if she is focused upon.

Appearance: Lefia is wiry and thin, with mostly gold armor. She is acrobatic and athletic.

Bio: Before Biofight, Lefia lived in a mostly utopian world, where all species lived together in harmony. There was still crime, of course, though. Lefia was an accomplished pickpocket, who used her Psionics abilities in certain ways so often that her secondary powers atrophied, leaving her with the three listed.

Personality/Other: Lefia is an excellent pickpocket, accomplished thief, and extremely good at talking her way out of things, assisted by her Charisma. She is very full of herself though.

Changes for Lefia and Velix. If approved, Velix's changes will take effect after the War Games. Lefia's will take effect immediately.

I'll agree. Having Xaeraz play Mirror Lytrel was a good segue. Except I don't think it was a good segue.

Edit: By which I meant to say that I don't think it was a segue at all, not that it wasn't good if it was

silly me

xaeraz at least will understand me

meanwhile, did anybody else know that the trademarked name "segway" was derived from the word segue

Xaeraz is Xaeraz.

I have admit I have no fondness for sociopaths, so that scene is very bad. :P Xaeraz's staff position may come at the expense of fishers' death.

Which, given that fishers has been the most fun-loving character so far, is an ironic contrast to the rule in the first post.

It just pains me when people say segway when they should say segue.

Or when the words "would of" are typed when it should be "would have" but people are too lazy to figure out how to words and grammar*

uggh

on the other hand I suppose it provides good marketing for the company that makes Segways

Mech!

Mech Name : MACCHA GEAR REX

Pilot Name : Maccha Yellow!

Power/Weapon 1 : Super Durability! Rex is ridiculously tough, having defeated building sized baddies by the dozen with nary a scratch to it's paint job! Exact data regarding materials and construction is hard to come by, but recorded feats include surviving a lava diving trip, protecting his pilot from the mental assault of Tren Krom [note: CGI], shrugging off the assault of a Heavy Laser class BETA and catching the bone-sword of Nyarlathotep betwixt it's teeth!

[note from the prop design specialist : Claims of feats above may or may not represent real world battle usage. Reliable data states that Rex possesses composite plate and ceramic armor that defends well against energy and projectile attacks, but is not extraordinarily strong in melee combat]

Power/Weapon 2 : Bestial Strength! Rex is exactly as strong as one would expect a gigantic theropod in power armor to be. That is, quite strong!

Power/Weapon 3 : Emergency Situation Operation Mode : Berserk. When it's pilot is in sufficient danger, the beast within Rex awakens. The closed and seemingly faux jaws screech as metal plating is torn open to reveal a steaming, gaping maw, from which escape terrifying bellows and the ear piercing skreigh that warns of great and unstoppable physical violence. Muscles bulge beneath straining metal and bending restraints, and any semblance of the hero's control over this ancient beast is lost. Strength and speed are increased at the cost of higher thought, tactics and strategy. Recovery from this form is quite difficult, requiring a titanic effort from the pilot. Out of the five episodes in which Rex has gone berserk, only once has it been quelled without sedatives or further violence, and this was after it had quite gruesomely consumed it's seraphic foe

[note from the series realism specialist : Claims of feats in berserk mode are again, exaggerated for the audience's enjoyment. In actuality mode, strength, speed and pain tolerance are increased due to mass influxes of adrenaline, but the actual durability of Rex does not change. It simply means that a decisively fatal blow is needed to subdue it, rather than being cowed by pain or fear]

Appearance : Rex resembles it's namesake, appearing as a gigantic and anthropomorphized tyrannosaurus rex. Meaning it has a more upright, bipedal posture, longer and more functional arms and tail and a beefier upper body. The paint job is deep gold and violet , resembling nothing much more so than the explosions and smoke generated by it's pilot's attacks. The overall design is smooth and sleek, it's face composed of smooth metal, with a jaw evident only via stylized teeth present in the paint job. The eyes gleam an even deeper shade of gold during normal operation

Other : Sensors connect the pilot's aural senses, giving them a shared sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch balance and, the occasional and greatly distressing, sense of taste

Tried some clarification. It's armor is basically real world equivalent to some type of kevlar/ceramic mixup. Good at dispersing heat, electrical charges and reasonably capable of taking a few bullets, but not miracle armor. It's durability against basic crushing or stabbing attacks is "average" for mechs. Power three is similar to Hound's enhanced physical capabilities, but not as versatile. And as we've seen, he can die.

With chars in multiple armies you're supposed to be relatively impartial.

Aye. While I have a Lt on one team, and two characters on a different team, I still want to do my best for both teams, because being biased makes your characters act...far less natural.

Wow. Just because I have a preference OOC doesn't mean I won't play fair IC. Kuro, who is on Arma Virique, happens to be my most motivated character. I'm not going to sacrifice character development just so my favorite team can win. Jeez.

Well everyone already had plans made; it was just taking forever to write them out IC.

I honestly feel like the planning phase should've lasted a bit longer, Halken's and Noroi's armies barely got to form basic battle plans, don't know about Kopen's army because I don't have characters there

Well everyone already had plans made; it was just taking forever to write them out IC.

That's why we had a timeskip.

This.

IC: "Okay. troops!" Xaeraz yelled, raising one hand as he hovered in front of his strike team. They had been waiting at the border for a good bit of time, and now it was their chance. "Remember! Secure a Special Weapon if we can, and prevent the enemy from getting any, but don't take risks you don't need to! We can pull back if we have to! And see me if you need patching up! Xara, as soon as you see a sizable force approaching, hit them with the Mist Gem!" He cleared his throat and wheeled around to face the field.

"Strike Team, move out!"

IC: Mirror Lytrel sighed at Fishers' still limp form. A few more slaps did nothing to wake her, so it would simply require a bit more... Focused of an assault.

With a small whistle, his hands both suddenly held daggers and scythed downwards, slicing at the ankles of the bound matoran, and the tendons hidden there.

IC(A.D.): The dragon put on the speed, his massive wings moving him toward his intended target. He looked around for enemies. Surely the other armies had prepared for this...

IC(fishers): fishers' form had burned away, so she was being wrapped. Acres of flesh were being stretched over her...

...the next thing she knew, she was lying on her back. She was always on her back. And Mirror Lytrel's face was a few feet away from her own. He was enjoying himself. And fishers was screaming and crying and...quaking. With an obscene sort of pleasure. More screaming. More crying. There was no vigilante bullet to save her, because she was the vigilante.

But she would never be so weak. Her foot lashed out, kicking Mirror Lytrel where it hurt. There was blood, and...the scene dissolved. A grin returned to the Matoran's face. Light returned to her eyes. And she saw the blade slice down, where her right foot had been not a moment before, stabbing into the Matoran's foot strap.

At the same time, she felt heat as the other blade stabbed right between the tendons of her left leg.

"I already killed you." she said, looking at Mirror Lytrel, her eyes betraying her terror. "Why aren't you dead?" Her foot twitched, pushing on the knife embedded in the restraint.

How exactly did Fishers manage to magically move her foot enough to dodge an attack that she did not know was coming?

Not magic. She was kicking someone in her hallucination, and her foot moved because she was waking up. Not a dodge.

That sounds stupidly fortunate. Like, unrealistically so?

Depends on how tight those restraints are. You established that Maeus had ditched the lethargy beams.

And this character is under a hallucinogen. She doesn't have to be unconscious to see things. But if you're going to be a big argument about it, I'll go edit it. I think we have a different opinion of where the leg restraints are, and that's making a mess here.

The blade did hit her other leg. The character has a knife in one leg. Geez. Not all attacks were countered.

Why on earth would the restraints not be tight? If you're planning on cutting somebody up (or even just plain killing them) while they're strapped to an operating table, you're going to make those restraints tight enough that they can't physically fight back.

Also I really want Blindside to win.

Blindside's technically been a man down since Ravyn bailed during the planning stage. Add in the fact that a good portion of feuding characters were all put on the same team (previously pointed out by Fishers), and they're more likely to suddenly start attacking each other than to claim domination over the other two armies. :P

Yet Blindside is already leading a blitzkrieg raid on the special weapons spawn, while none of the other teams have even left their bases yet. They're certainly the most proactive team on the field right now....
