Krika Master of Entropy

Recommended Posts

Krika began his life as an ordinary villager, and made his living as an explorer, boldly probing the most untamed regions of Okoto. Despite his somewhat overblown ego, he still cultivated enough positive traits to be generally well-liked, and was widely acknowledged as the best in his field of expertise. And whether it was this vaunted skill, or just blind luck, or even destiny at work, Krika eventually did what no one else had managed in millennia—he found the Mask of Creation.
His mind raced with possibilities, but one quickly rose to the forefront of his thoughts. Despite the fact that they were safe at the moment, the villages would surely welcome the added security provided by the creation of a Toa. And who was better suited, for both the honor of the title and the duty of protecting Okoto, than Krika? The explorer impulsively seized the Mask, rammed it onto his face, and seized the energies flowing within, directing them through his body.
It didn’t quite work.
Having no experience in manipulating anything as powerful as the Mask, Krika lost control of his transformation, twisting into a hideous insectoid abomination. He soon discovered that his body was surrounded by its own atmosphere, a seeping, clammy cold that drained the life from his surroundings. He could manipulate it to a degree, intensifying it or sending it out to ensnare enemies from a distance, but he was never able to dispel it.
Now, centuries later, Krika still lurks near the site of his great tragedy, using his razor-sharp spines and entropic aura to kill anyone and anything that approaches the mask. He recognizes the futility of his obsession, but the embittered being cannot consider the possibility that he might be able to change his destiny…

For my first BBCC entry (I've never actually had access to my collection and the internet simultaneously before!), I decided to take a jab at everyone's second-favorite G1 Makuta. And, of course, I couldn't resist the challenge of trying to adapt the character to the G2 continuity.
Critique away!

This is gorgeous. I love the claws. Although a couple nitpicks is that I'd put some armor plating on his lower legs and upper arms. Perhaps in Mata red, to add a little more of that to his colorscheme? The other thing is that I think the eyes should be red like the original had. The blue doesn't really fit, and it also breaks up the colorscheme.

Glad you approve! Those bare limbs were left in an attempt to keep the spindly insect look--I just felt like any cladding there would start looking clunky. As for the eyes...yeah, I definitely see your point, and I had intended to go with red eyes, but I decided I kind of liked the contrast (as well as wanting something less overtly villainous), so I made a judgement call.

Concerning the link...I dunno. I had several other links, as well, but they all got cut off, and I haven't been able to fix it. I started a topic on this in the Q&A forum; hopefully I'll get some help soon.

EDIT: Aaaaand fixed. Thanks, Windrider!

I must say that I do quite like both your rendition of the character as well as the backstory. I have a thing for protagonists-turned-villains for some reason, and this little story managed to hit the spot! Onto the MOC:

I quite like the overall design, though I do feel that more red would have definitely made a difference. Also, something like Pridak's weapon would have gone great with this color scheme. All in all, great rendition, and best of luck to you! I'm sure it will be quite the competition with this guy in the entry pool :D

Two different versions of Krika, two completely different concepts!

This is less like a design-for-design recreation of the original character but one with creative liberties, which I really like. This rendition of Krika is spooky. I love the more "Nidhiki-Like" look to him, leaving him a quadruped but with hands. The legs are characteristically skeletal, as are the arms. The pose you have him in for the entry pic makes him look really hunched and eerie - the perfect look for a schemer like him. The construction itself is interesting in its use of classic technic components to connect top-half to bottom half. It's an innovative design that is equally complex as it is simple. His top-half is heavy on armour, but it's just the perfect amount to give him an armoured appearance.

As you can tell, I am quite impressed with this moc. Good luck in the polls, though I doubt you will need much! :)

First off, a general thanks to everyone who took the time to leave up-votes and comments. Every one of them made my day.

@Mohamed Marei: I was thinking of giving him something to hold, but I decided I liked him better without it. So the hypothetical weapon went the way of his red eyes.:P As for the color scheme, my pitiful supply of Mata red made it impossible to add more.

@Nidhiki: I felt like I was going out on a limb with the changed structure, but I figured there's no point in making a revamp if you don't change a few things around--especially since I was keeping the original mask and spine pieces. I'm glad to hear it worked out!

@Toa Doublebee: Man, I wish those gears did something. As is, they're just there to fill in the sides of the torso without being too bulky-looking.
