BBC #69 Turaga Dume

Hello there! Here's my entry for the BBC Contest #69, Turaga Dume!

Entry pic:

I wanted to continue my Metru Nui Legacy, and I thought that making a MOC that could fit both my project and the 2015 style would have been great. I wanted to challenge myself to build a custom GearBox with a simple look, and I tried to make it as less complicated as I could. I also made him bulkier than the original, because 2015 Protectors are much more armored than the G1 Matorans and Turagas and I wanted to make it look as G2 as possible. I also gave him shoulder pads, just because lots of the new sets have shells to protect their shoulders. I tried to make him look new while keeping his old colors and design (especially the Movie version.) I also used a Hordika torso to make that silver cape/armor seen in the movie. Hope you'll like it!

Gear Function:

Placed there two additional gears to make the function less woobly. Spinning the dark grey piece will move the right arm, which carries a staff that also looks quite like the Protectors' ones.

Torso without the armor and the head:

Also here's a pic of the Movie one for reference.

Hope you'll vote for me!  :P

Oh Dume... Or is it Makuta? This is looking really good. I like the ingenuity for his tribal cape. You have done a good job of capturing the character. The custom Gearbox is a nice touch as is the stabilizing gears on the back. You've hidden the actual mechanism almost as if it is internal structure or organs.

Interesting design. It definitely feels nice and modern despite using some classic parts. Part of me wonders if BIONICLE Stars feet would look better than the basic hero feet — they do exist in both bright red and silver metallic. But it's a nice design either way!

Thank you for the nice feedback! I actually decided to use CCBS build to make it more similar to G2 sets, also these stars pieces don't allow any bend of the knees/elbows and limit poseability. I considered using different pieces, but then it would have been off-topic with the contest, which mainly involves the use of CCBS. It was really hard to not make that Gearbox look too complicated and technic, and I'm glad I was able to make a custom one and hidden it quite nicely.

Edit: I actually misread your post ._."

I didn't use these Stars feets because I don't have any.. I've got a couple of black ones but I already used one on my Matau rebuild. I agree that it would have looked better though.

I think Aanchir was talking about the Stars feet, not legs. :) Nice MOC by the way! I agree with what Nightwolf said about the mechanism being hidden inside the torso structure. It looks really nice. :D

At first I thought, "Oh, that's a nice, simple Turaga Dume MOC." It does pull off the character look, but it didn't seem too exciting. But then I saw that it had a gearbox, and that all changed. That gearbox design is really impressive, not just that it works but it blends so seemlessly into the design. Major props! Best of luck on the contest!

I like this Turaga Dume. Brings back fond memories of my Dume, except I lost his head. I like the Hordika chestplate and the original mask.

This fantastic. The body is built up of so many small pieces, yet it comes together nicely and creates a solidified look. The gear function is at a much smaller scale and really works. The CCBS shells making up the back help to conceal some of the more G1-like aspects of this moc. It captures the movie Dume-look perfectly.

Excellent work!

Uh-oh... Somebody hide that guy in the closet. This is a Gen2 contest... Reminding voters it looks too much like Gen1 is a death sentence to an applicant...

One thing that I really don't like about the MOC is the lower legs, they don't look that good and they are vary odd. The body is alright, but I kind of don't like that it's not an HF build, yet I do like that it have a gear function, and the staff I'm not a big fan of but it's alright looking.

Like Toa of Geek said, this looks more like Dume than the original set did. I am in love with the way you fabricated a gearbox and managed to give it some extra friction while keeping it more compact than the new ones -- placing the forward gear in front of the arm gear appears to be what did it, and I think it was a stroke of genius :)

I really like this. Turaga Dume is one of my favorite characters and you captured his feel in a new way well done.
