Two New Bionicle Books on Amazon

Recommended Posts

Two new Bionicle books have appeared on Amazon.com, although their details are rather sparse. First we have the Untitled LEGO Bionicle: Chapter Book #1 for $5.99, by the author Ryder Windham, who has some Star Wars books to his name. The next is the LEGO Bionicle Activity Book #1 With Mask, which will go for $8.99, but we don't know which mask it might include. Both books have a release date for August 25, 2015, so we still have a while to wait.

I hope that the mask is a trans blue Kaukau (since we are getting trans/ half trans versions of the rest of the masks EXCEPT the kaukau so far)

In the time before time, the Great Spirit descended from the heavens, carrying with him the ones called the Matoran, to this island paradise. We were separate and without purpose, so the great spirit blessed us with the Three Virtues: Unity, Duty and Destiny. We embraced these gifts and in gratitude named our home Mata Nui, after the great spirit himself.

I was thinking the same thing.

I'm really excited about that, it's so neat. Brings back memories of the Bionicle: Chronicles book set that came with an Infected Hau ^^

While a transparent or blended version of Gali's mask would be AWESOME and I wouldn't rule out getting one in a store promotion or store-exclusive set later in the year, I don't think the chances of this activity book including one are that high. Comparable activity books for themes like Ninjago and Friends include minifigures or minidolls instead of masks, and they have NEVER included an exclusive fig. I think this book is more likely to include a very basic mask like Tahu's or the Protector of Fire's. I would still love to be proven wrong!

Not to be too much of a downer, but as this new wave of Bionicle keeps coming, I'm realizing that I'm not so much a Bionicle fan as a Farshtey fan. I'm not sure if I can keep up with a new story without Greg.

If I were you I'd wait and see what this new author brings too the table. I'm not familiar with any of his work, but looking at what he's done in the past he seems to have quite a broad range—more than 60 Star Wars books ranging from chapter books and novelizations to comics and reference guides. Frankly, I'd say he's more qualified than even Greg was when he started writing for Bionicle, so I'm more than willing to give him a chance.

I agree with Lyichir, just because it isn't Farshtey doesn't mean it won't be classic Bionicle!  The new author seems incredibly qualified and talented, and as long as he'll have some decent story material to work with (as far getting the feel of Bionicle right, like the atmosphere and the setting-- not plot details), I think it's got the potential to be a great success.

I'm very interested to see the direction the books take the story.  We haven't gotten very much story material so far, and it seems like the Toa are nearly operating in a void; assuming we don't get much more beyond the animations, the books will the only substantial story material of the year, and will have a major roll in shaping the story.

Everything is some kind of a plot, man.

Whoever writes it, I think this is exactly what Generation 2 needs. I know it's still fairly early on, but we've seen two waves of sets and there still isn't any really concrete story outside of the prologue animations and the Toa vs. Spiders conflict. And we still know essentially nothing about the spiders except that they are the bad guys for the time being. I just really wish it was Greg... I've read nearly everything he's written for the franchise, and everything Hapka has, and it's clear how Farshtey's extended interaction with the story has made him the best person to write for Bionicle. I guess it's going to be a different Bionicle though...

I'm really excited to see how the new chapter book plays out. I thinks story could be just as good as some of the Gen 1 books. At least, I hope it is. :P

As for the new author, I'm very interested in seeing what someone besides Greg or Hapka does with Bionicle storywise. And with the author chosen to write this one, I think it has a chance to be something great.

Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.

I've read quite a few of his Star Wars books, and even though it has been a while, I remember liking them, especially the ones that focused on one character's entire life.

This is what I have been waiting for in Gen 2 (besides a full TV series). I really hope this adds some meat to the bare-bones Gen 2 story, and that it is successful enough to spawn more books.

I was expecting a TV show, too. Of course, somewhere the story team (or someone) said there isn't a TV show currently planned, so that was kind of a bummer.

On the other hand, I'm glad were FINALLY getting some news on the books. It almost seemed like they had given up on them or somethin'. But doesn't August seem a little late in the year to release the books? I was expecting them FAR earlier.

I think Ryder Windham is more than capable of writing, completing and executing a good Bionicle book. I feel confident he can do it, after personally looking at a big list of Star Wars books he has done.

I highly doubt that the activity book promotional item is an "exclusive" mask or Skull Spider, but if it is, then I'll buy it. I have a feeling we'll have to get a special Mask of Water (or any exclusive mask in general) from the Lego shop when Winter comes.

Just what I was thinking!

I'll probably get both - another activity book actually caught me by surprise, but that should be a fun read. The novel itself sounds pretty sweet and interesting to know that we will be getting a writer with a pretty extensive career.

Oh good, it's 128 pages.

I was worried they might be like Journey of Takanuva.

Real talk—I'm happy with chapter books, but would LOVE to get a book like Journey of Takanuva as well. That book was one of the most obscure gems of the classic story.

Yeah, the book had gorgeous artwork, and I'd love to see a full chapter book with accompanying art like that sometime.

Considering how rich G2's story already is, I wouldn't mind seeing a guidebook with lots of neat artwork.

I miss Greg but this new author seems pretty talented, so I'm eager to see what he has in store for us. Hopefully the story will help us learn more about the Protectors and the villagers, of whom we know almost nothing about currently.

The artwork is great, but the back cover...

It has a big outline of the steps required to teach your child to read at any age. <_<

But at least now I know I'm a Growing Reader.

I'm not familiar with Mr. Windham's work, but he's certainly got the experience.  Really looking forward to his spin on the story, and to getting more information in general!

This in particular is great to see - while I'm sure the Bionicle books will have to do the great character two-step shuffle as always, as a characterization geek this gives me hope that the G2 crew will go beyond archetypes.

My initial reaction to seeing this one the front page:

YEEEAAAAAAHH! BOOKS! DEEPER STORIES 'n WORLD BUILDIN', FOR THE WIN; HECK YEAH!!!!! WHOOOOOOH!

Now if you will excuse me, I will be trying to calm down. My reaction is based on the assumption that G2 would only use animations to tell a story and thus be shallow.

Huh, the guy was written Star Wars books? Most of those are quite awesome, I can't wait!

A lot of LEGO chapter books and activity books nowadays feature unique artwork from Ameet Studio, so maybe the BIONICLE activity book might have some as well. I don't know about the chapter book, though. The Legends of Chima storybooks and LEGO Friends chapter books are illustrated, but the Ninjago chapter books are not. Depends what the LEGO Group's brand strategy for this theme is, I guess.
