Shrouded is from the POV of The Shadowed One.

At that moment, only the war mattered.

Our final stand raged around me as a large beast burst through the giant iceberg to my side.  Large and blue.  It reared its neck and bared its teeth in my direction.  Gesturing with my arms, I begged it to come near.

"Come on, you wanna fight?  Fight me.  I dare you."

The beast bore the symbols of the local government militia.  Of course.  Their controlling ways had rejected my friend's underground job business.  The entire island had erupted into a civil war between social classes.  We were invading their main base.

It lashed out at me.  I lunged back at it with my staff.  Strategy would come in handy during this fight.

One of the militia warriors foolishly rushed toward me, brandishing a long spear.  He attempted to swing the weapon at my left leg.  He never got to, as beams of pure destructive energy erupted from my eyes, shattering the spear and launching the guard into a small outcropping of ice, the blows instantly killing him.

I really needed to give those beams more power someday.

As I turned back, I realized my error.  The beast took advantage of the distraction and swiped its grey claws at the side of my head.

Thinking quickly, I shifted my weight to the back of my feet and fell.  Before I hit the ground, I twisted, crunched, and rolled away from the claw.  Using my momentum, I turned and thrusted my staff into the beast's hide.  Quickly activating a switch on the weapon's front, the beast began to be covered in crystalline Protodermis.  I left its unmoving body to die.

Looking up from my kill, I saw one of the best militia warriors.  We both stared at each other before he unsheathed his blade and ran directly toward me.

I spun around, using the momentum to swing a hard hit to the warrior.  He ducked, rolled, and swiped at my legs.  I flipped over and plunged my staff toward his shoulder.  He rolled out of the way, leaving my staff stuck in the cracked ice.  He got up and slashed his sword at my head.  I ducked slightly and punched him in the shoulder.  He hit my head with the hilt of his blade and proceeded to knee me in the stomach.  I stumbled back and fell onto the ice.

The warrior stood as I got up.  I ran toward him as he swung his blade at my head.  I dodged to the left and vaulted over the staff, pulling it free from the ice.  I turned around in time to slash the staff through a chink in his armor.  He grabbed his stomach and fell, dead.

I turned around to see a group of the militia staring at me.  They had apparently seen what I did to the warrior.

I looked toward them all and shouted, "Surrender!  Or you're next!".

They all slowly got on their knees and put their hands on their heads.  I ordered a group of my fighters into the main building.  A few minutes later, they dragged the head of the island out.

"Bring him over here," I yelled.  The fighters brought the man to my front.  I lifted my spear and said, "You are weak.  We are powerful.  Power dominates the weak."

I jabbed my staff toward his head and activated the protodermis.  He would make a nice trophy.

My friend, the one who started the whole war, walked next to me.

"What do we do with the rest?" he asked.

I thought about it and answered.

"Bring them into the organization.  Terminate those who resist."

If I sounded like a geek in this

post, you are correct.

"Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection.  It means never having to play it cool about about how much you like something.  It's basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult.  Being a geek is extremely liberating." - Simon Pegg
