Favorite Cartoons

Recommended Posts

So what are your favorite cartoon series? By this, I mean cartoons that you still love today as much as you did yesterday, not a cartoon you loved as a kid but are either unsure of as its been a while since you last saw it, or you now dislike/hate it. Some of the cartoons may seem to be in the wrong decade, but then started in like the last year or year and a half of that decade and lived its life in the following decade. As there are a lot of works of art, It would be nice if you listed them by decade, but you don't have to if you don't want to.

1990's:

-- Ren and Stimpy

-- Beavis and Butthead

-- Animaniacs

-- Dragon Ball Z

-- Cowboy Bebop

-- Rocko's Modern Life

-- Batman: The Animated Series

-- Angry Beavers

--The Tick

-- The Simpsons

-- Cow and Chicken

-- Dexter's Lab

2000's:

-- Grim and Evil

-- Courage the Cowardly Dog

-- Samurai Jack

-- Avatar: The Last Airbender

-- Camp Lazlo

-- Ed Edd n; Eddy

-- SpongeBob Squarepants

-- Death Note

-- Code Geass

-- Martin Mysteries

-- Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

-- Justice League (not sure if I should make Justice League: Unlimited separate or not)

-- American Dad

-- Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack

-- Invader ZIM

2010's:

-- The Amazing World of Gumball

-- Regular Show

-- Space Dandy

-- Deadman Wonderland

-- Young Justice (a certain romantic relationship irks me, though)

-- Teen Titans GO! (Some episodes aren't that funny, but the episode about the Titans getting dark, gritty and serious ensures the show stays on my list.)

Well, what do y'all got up your sleeves? Again, you don't have to do what I did and maybe you just want to throw in a couple of shows because you don't feel like typing. That's okilee dokilee by me.

Futurama is my favorite cartoon (and probably my favorite show). I also like American Dad, and to a much lesser extent Family Guy. The first two seasons of Bob's Burgers were also great, I'd like to watch that show again.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Ben 10 for a while. Just the first show, none of the new versions. Really the only other cartoons I watched were innocent old-timey stuff on Boomerang, since my parents didn't approve of popular stuff (Spongebob/Dexters Lab/etc.).

Did anyone else watch House of Mouse? I've got fond memories of scurrying to the TV after school to catch the latest episode.

I knew I was forgetting about something! I love Futurama! Thanks for jogging my memory!

I think so... was House of Mouse 2D or 3D animation? If it's the former then yeah, I loved that show.

Meesa also like Darkwing Duck, Toontown, Ducktales, and Tailspin.

Futurama truly is one of the most fantastic series out there. Lovely series.

Steven Universe and Gravity Falls are probably the best cartoons airing right now. Both are nigh dang impeccable, honestly.

Also have a huge appreciation for The Amazing World of Gumball. It's just an incredibly clever, well-made, hilarious show. Emphasis on clever. It is just so good. Adventure Time and Regular Show are also still really good, though the former's quality tends to fluctuate a bit these past couple of seasons...regardless, we have seen some pretty great stuff recently, so it's all good.

I'm also a big fan of TFA and SDMI and Ben 10 Omniverse. Wyatt's art style is one of my favorite, and they're generally just pretty good shows.

The Powerpuff Girls is amazing, so is Ed, Edd n' Eddy. Probably my favorites of that period.

I'm not even going to touch anime because there's already a thread for that and if I was even going to start I'd be here all day. So no.

I've had a love of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy since childhood. I don't watch many cartoons these days, but people keep telling me to watch Gravity Falls. Is it any good?

It's not the best cartoon out there, but it's pretty good. Some episodes get really interesting cuz there's this whole mystery that the main characters are trying to solve. I recommend you give it a shot. It's a fun, interesting show about these adventurous twins who are trouble magnets. What more could you ask for?

Lessee, my favorites are...

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Chowder
  • The Amazing World of Gumball
  • Total Drama Island (the other seasons pale in comparison)
  • My Life as a Teenage Robot (seriously, I can't get enough of this show)
  • Dexter's Laboratory
  • Teen Titans (GO! is a hit-or-miss show)
  • Tom and Jerry (How did they allow this on a kids' channel?  :D)
  • Looney Tunes

Fairly Odd Parents! would have made this list if I didn't get so bored of it. It should have ended after Fairly Odd Baby or Wishology. Poof was the bane of that show's existence.

Too many to count, as I'm not particularly picky about what I watch. I guess I'll just list my favorite pick from every major cartoon network. (Including, of course, Cartoon Network.)

Disney: Gravity Falls. Probably the best of these three on a technical production level, this show is a perfect mix of mystery, humor, and the continued questioning of how Alex gets this stuff past the censors.

Nick: Legend of Korra. Though no longer airing, I feel this was the best show Nick has had in recent history. Action, emotion, and fighting techniques created by people who have clearly done their research on the various martial arts makes this an amazing continuation of one of the greatest kid's franchises of all time. It's too bad there was never a movie.

Cartoon Network: Steven Universe. HNNGBLBLBLHRRRRRGG THIS SHOW HURTS MY HEARTSTRINGS WHILE MAKING ME SIMULTANEOUSLY BUST A GUT LAUGHING AND WRACK MY BRAIN THINKING IT'S TOO GOOD FOR THIS SINFUL WORLD YET IT KEEPS GOING AND BEING THE BEST THING POSSIBLE HRRRRRG-

Yeah, i get that gushy feeling when watching that show. You know what also did that to me? Courage the Cowardly Dog. That was art. It was creepy (sometimes outright scary, have you seen the Spirit of Harvest Moon??!), it was emotionally moving, and it was funny. Gosh, I miss that show so much.

Let's see. I only ever watched Cartoon Network, and I don't really watch TV nowadays, so I can't speak for current TV shows. Ed Edd n Eddy is easily one of my favorite shows ever, just ahead of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Of course, my favorite part is looking back and getting all the jokes we never got as kids.

EDIT: OF COURSE Courage the Cowardly Dog how could I forget. Dome of Doom is one of the greatest cartoon episodes ever.

I know right! Have you seen Garnet sing in Jail Break? IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

Also, the soundtrack. I love the soundtrack. It's so complex, and has such a variety. AviSura are great composers for the soundtrack. Check it out on Soundcloud, or on MsWord's Youtube Account.

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Of course, my favorite part is looking back and getting all the jokes we never got as kids.

I forgot about that one! That is an amazing show, I think I'll watch it again.

Farmstink Buttlass also reminded me of Adventure Time. I hope Netflix gets more seasons soon, as I've only seen the first two.

King of the Hill is another good one. Perhaps not one of my favorite shows, but I enjoyed it a bunch.

There were adult jokes in Fosters? I need to watch it again.

I don't get Adventure time, it just looks stupid to me.

I love King of the Hill, however I have seen all episodes one too many times and thus does not make it on to my list of favorites (maybe an honorable mention though).

I haven't seen Fosters in ages so I wouldn't know. As for Adventure Time, it's got a lot of twisted humor and interesting characters, but humor aside I think it's very well written. A lot of the episodes remind me of D&D.

The Ice King is a scarily believable sociopath, which is probably hard to pick up on if you don't binge-watch the series.

Adventure Time is really freaking deep and stupidly dark sometimes. Starting with season 3 there's just...a lot of really interesting reveals and character development. seriously. The Ice King is like. A most tragic character. Also, Marceline, and...the entire setting has a lot of backstory, and the later seasons have a lot of weird plot stuff and foreshadowing and and and it's really just interesting. It's not without flaws, obviously, especially the past couple of seasons (on account of the show sometimes going too far off the deep end, and the fact that as daring as it is it's just terrified of changing the status quo) But it's far from being just a stupid show. There's a lot of stuff beneath the thin upper layer of random zaniness. And it really is a pretty funny and well written show.

Oh, then I know what you mean. That's one of my favorite things about looking back on my childhood, understanding things I either didn't understand before or didn't even know were there.

If there were adult jokes in fosters, I never caught them.

Spongebob had a ton of obvious ones though. Shame it's all guts n gore now.

I haven't liked a new cartoon since 2008.

You should watch The Amazing World of Gumball, it's funny as heck, insane and has some adult jokes (much of Season 1 is sub-par, however). Not to mention the creators of the show are English, so you have both British humor and if you pay attention you can sometimes hear their American accents slip (they are usually really good at it so don't expect to hear it a lot). One of my favorite things about it is the use of different types of animations (2D doodles running across a live action environment and meeting stop-motion, 3D, hand-drawn and clay-mation characters).

Sorry, Ive seen it on boomerang once, not for me.

I wish the Clone wars was still on...

You must have seen an episode from season 1. That begs a question though: why is Boomerang showing TV shows that are still on the air?

I think it was season one.

Yes, I've wondered that myself, why ARE they showing currently running shows?

I'd recommend Gravity Falls. It starts a little slow but gets progressively better every episode, concluding (so far) at a spectacular season 2 mid-season finale. I've also taken a shine to Star Wars Rebels. The animation is a little meh but the story is pretty good.

Not a DISNEY fan. Sorry. :)

I liked some of the older shows, like Darkwing Duck and Ducktales. I don't know if they are still anygood like if there are any adult jokes or not (90's cartoons did well on that), so if you do check them out I can't guarantee that they are as good as my 8 year old self thought they were. There theme songs were extremely catchy though!

I doubt very seriously that Ren and Stimpy's target audience was "children aged 8 to 12".

Both Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life were child-friendly, not child-targeted, and even then it pushed it to the point that Nickalodeon canceled both of them.

You can't deny that Wilbur Cobb is not one of the funniest things ever, though.

When Cobb pops up in the second half of the video, I dare you to try and both listen to and comprehend every word he is saying while paying attention to what is happening. :superfunny: :superfunny:

I know, Nick had to move ren and stimpy to some other channel because of how, um, adult it got at times.

Rockos adult jokes were more subtle.

That scene where Spongebob drops that thing on Squidward's toe and his toenail snaps off with the leg of the furniture digging into the empty toe was extremely gruesome... yet, I laughed by butt off at that to tears while cringing. :superfunny: Something is wrong with some part of my brain.

If done right and not too disgusting, it can be funny. I don't recall that happening though (haven't seen a lot of post-2006 episodes).

Got weird? Courage was weird since the pilot, having a chicken from outer-space try to capture Muriel and Eustace, and when he can't he brainwashes Eustace.

That's the 90's and early 2000's for ya. Cartoons were dark and gritty during those times.

So I gather you have not seen Adventure Time or Gravity Falls? Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated? Because...dark and gritty would describe those pretty well in certain respects...
