I REALLY love these Simpsons sets! But why do they cost so much?! WHYYY?!

Ahem.

I feel like this set in particular isn't really that "big", and most of the pieces go into into the little decorations.

I don't watch the show, but that doesn't change my opinion of this set. And said opinion is that it is really impressive. It looks very detailed inside it and the minifigs look good too. I won't be getting it, but its still a cool looking set.

I REALLY love these Simpsons sets! But why do they cost so much?! WHYYY?!

Ahem.

I feel like this set in particular isn't really that "big", and most of the pieces go into into the little decorations.

It is pretty big, all things considered (40 studs by 30 studs by 14 bricks, with solid walls on all four sides and a separate police car and back alley), and those "little decorations" (especially the many exclusive recolors and printed parts) still cost money.

The Modular Buildings often have similar or higher piece counts for a lot cheaper, but those don't have to be designed to match a particular subject, and so the designers have more freedom to make the building and decor more affordable by using existing parts in existing colors (plus, no royalties).

I'm not a Simpsons fan, but I definitely think this set looks like a great design! Like the Simpsons House set, it is well-rounded. In this case, it has all the details that you might expect from a convenience store, though I'm sure Simpsons fans might have some gripes about classic jokes and references that weren't included. The show's colorful cartoon design language also really shines here.

Of course, even more so than the Simpsons House, this set's primary appeal will be with fans of the show. Considering what a mundane subject a convenience store would have been for other themes like LEGO Friends or LEGO City, it's great that this license offered the designers an opportunity to go all-out instead of constraining themselves to a 16x16 footprint or smaller. There are even plenty of decorations that convey the Simpsons' iconic humor even for someone like me who has never really watched a full episode and doesn't get most of the references.

Do you know what it's like when you see a part you didn't know you needed, and suddenly you realize you've needed it all along? The garbage bags in this set are that part. I had never considered the potential the Collectible Minifigure Santa sack would have for garbage bags, but now I wonder why City sets with garbage trucks and the like have been missing them for so long.

Other than that, this set doesn't particularly interest me. It looks fantastic (like the Simpsons house last year, which is pretty much the ideal "dollhouse" set that all similar sets will be compared to in the future), but of course it's expensive and I'm not really a Simpsons fan.

Man, this set looks great. I haven't watched the Simpsons in a long, long time, so I'm not really interested, but it's just really impressive. It's got so much detail and from a collector's point of view it must be an even greater sight.
