END ROUND 1 DEATH MATCH

"Today's challenge is over," the Makuta said. "Tommorrow, there will be a new opportunity for greatness."

Slowly, the group filed out of the door to go home...

* * *
Pulse's limousine pulled up to his ritzy hi-tech mansion on the edge of town. He arrived to find dinner ready and his henchmen gathered around the table with the Masks of Jungle and Fire. They paused to admire them before sitting down to eat.

That's when the alarm went off. Pulse jumped up and ran to the security control center. The security footage showed a grinning being lobbing fireballs at Pulse's mansion. "WHEEEEE!" Ghidora yelled, chucking flaming projectiles as he ran in a berserk path around the fence. Pulse sighed. His mansion was solid stone and had been reinforced with fire-resistant glass long ago. "Let me know if you see anything else." Pulse said, and returned to his dinner.

* * *
Pahrak #0579 carried his loot back to his snug and comfortable Bohrok Nest, where he proudly put his newest prizes. He ate and was just about to power down for the night when he felt...something...slither around his chest.

He turned on the light to see vines. Everywhere. Angry, the Bohrok slammed his shield into the vines reaching for the masks, and managed to roll out of the room unharmed. His elite mind quickly concluded that his neighbor Astapi was responsible. Marching to his house, the Bohrok chucked a boulder through Astapi's door. Unfortunately for Pahrak, it would seem that his neighbor wasn't at home after all - and Pahrak would have a lot of explaining to do when he returned.

Even worse, upon returning home, Pahrak would find that one of his masks that he had acquired had been stolen. It was not one of his better nights.

* * *
Portal, on the other hand, was enjoying his night. The portal master had made an uninvited visit to Ghidora's house and was watching old movies, eating popcorn - wait, was that a mask hidden between the couch cushions? Ah yes. He smiled deviously, and left quickly, deciding that he could finish this particular remake of Psycho later.

* * *
Pulse was having trouble sleeping - instead he was nervously pacing the guardroom. Ghidora had long since gone, but he feared it was only temporary, and he thought he might come back with -

POP. SMASH. He felt a terrible rush of air - cold air. Alarms blazed everywhere, and Pulse ran to the other side of his mansion, too fast - slide. Ice. Two of his henchmen grabbed them and they went sprawling on the slippery surface. He yelled in pain. "Somebody help!"

It took several hours for his henchmen to form a human chain and get their master out of the ice. By then, the killer was nowhere to be found, but it seemed that Pulse was of a fine stroke of luck - he was cold and bruised, but nonetheless alive.

* * *
Makuta and the Lord of Skull Spiders had both lay down to rest when the vicious spike covered telephone near his bedside rang.

"Makuta Enterprises. You have the wrong number."

"I'm going to attack Voltex with my Mask of Stone." a chipper female voice said. Makuta recognized the voice of Umina.

Makuta hung up the phone. He punched a button that replayed the entire conversation on speaker. The Lord of Skull Spiders nodded, and quickly left.

* * *
Umina stood in front of the door to Voltex's house. The door opened, and Voltex's slender Lucina form glared back at him.

"You're literally the worst kind of person. Kicking someone when they're down. What a swell individual."

The Lord of Skull Spiders hissed, as his two claws thrust the two female warriors apart. His face was very clear. No.

It seemed that there would be no real conflict this night.

* * *
The morning dawned over the Island of Okoto as our nine adventurers entered the Makuta's lair. If they had expected to find the evil mask maker and his pet, however, they would be sorely mistaken. Instead all that awaited them was nine forging pedestals, each with their own six elemental reserves and their own ticking clock.

END ROUND 2 MASK MAKING

Ghidora easily crafted his golden of mask of ice. So pretty! He celebrated by throwing a bunch of molten metal and Earth energy at his forge, only to find that spontaneous combinations do not a Mask of Earth make.

Ghidora: Mask of Ice: Success.
Ghidora: Mask of Earth: Failure.

Pahrak #0579 took care and diligence, and with much effort succeeded in crafting his masks.

Pahrak #0579: Masks of Water and Ice: Success.

Portal seemed to have an obsession with Masks of Earth, because he made another one. His attempt to make a Mask of Jungle, however, was less than successful.

Portal: Mask of Earth: Success.
Portal: Mask of Jungle: Failure.

Umina's initial attempt at a Mask of Ice was a horrendous mess, but she learned from her mistakes and thus finished her mask of Earth.

Umina: Mask of Ice: Failure
Umina: Mask of Earth: Success.

It seemed that while Pulse's connections were good at getting masks out of trees, his horrible night had gotten to him, leaving him sloppy at the forge.

Pulse: Masks of Earth and Stone: Failure to both.

Voltex, on the other hand, had enjoyed his sweet dreams of vengeance. He was still daydreaming, allowing his hands to wander...but it seemed that fate had chosen to cross him yet again, for his hands wandered in the right direction.

Voltex: Masks of Fire and Jungle: Success to both.

The wizard Garadur proved his mask-making prowess. Forges were much more his speed.

Garadur: Masks of Ice and Stone: Success to both.

Underscore's twins bustled around their forge. Their hard work would soon pay off.

Underscore: Water and Stone: Success to both.

And Astapi would find his first attempt at a Mask of Earth to be unsuccessful...but his efforts at a Mask of Stone would pay off.

Astapi: Mask of Earth: Failure.
Astapi: Mask of Stone: Success.

END OF ROUND 2

Ghidora was headed home when he heard the soft whir of a vehicle pull up beside him, and felt the soft crack of a weapon against his skull. His attacker claimed his Mask of Ice and left him for dead.

* * *
Pahrak #0579 was at Astapi's house cleaning up the mess from last night. He was just finishing up when he heard a sharp crack. He whirled in time to see a cloaked figure claim Astapi's Mask of Stone, and he fired a bolt of ice...but he missed.

However, the evil stranger would not get far from Astapi's before a warhammer, crackling with elemental energy, clocked him upside the head. The evil wizard allowed himself to smile as he claimed the mask he knew the cloaked being would miss the most.

* * *
Umina donned her Mask of Earth and stayed awake all night nervously waiting for an attack. But she wasn't prepared for two flash smoke bombs that were chucked through her window, leaving her choking and gasping. When she came to, she found that she was missing her mask.

* * *
Ghidora clutched onto his new mask, fleeing from the scene of his crime - my precious - when he saw a huge freaking boulder coming his way. He managed to escape into a side alley though, cackling with the laughter of the mad.

* * *

Each of the twins of Underscore took turns standing watch this night. But it seemed that their gleaming collection of golden masks had attracted the attention of no one.

Especially not Portal, who spent the whole night doing what people usually do at night - sleep.

* * *
In the morning, nine beings walked through the door to the forges. "Still nine?" Makuta commented to himself absently. "I thought their greed would prove too much - they would have killed each other by now."

The Lord of Skull Spiders hissed. "They are too evenly matched." it said.

"Yes, yes." The Makuta waved dismissively, walking away from the elemental registers. He tapped his hand on a carving of the Mask of Ultimate Power on the wall. "That will change very soon, no doubt."

That's everyone, so might as well put this show on the road.

END OF ROUND 3 MASK MAKING

Ghidora made his Mask of Ice in like five seconds. He totally had practice yesterday. Masks of Stone were hard, though. Geez.

Ghidora: Mask of Ice: Success.
Ghidora: Mask of Stone: Failure.

Shortly after the insane being had begun his mask of Stone, an alarm sounded throughout the mask forging area. The blast doors of the forge blew open, showing the six regions of Okoto once more. Cold air blasted into the room from the ice region, rendering whatever the others had been working on useless messes. A sharp knock hit the door behind them.

"Get out of here!" Makuta yelled. "Run!"

There was a second of terror. Then as one the Mask Makers ran for each of the elemental regions of Okoto, just before the door behind them was smashed down. Tahu, Master of Fire, wore a satisfied smirk on his face. "Now, what is this?" he asked, looking around at the forges. The other six Toa of Okoto surveyed the deserted forge, and began to play around with some of the equipment.

A large hissing noise broke into the deadly silence. The Lord of Skull Spiders advanced on the Toa, trying to protect his master. The Toa blasted elemental powers at the Skull Spider legions, protecting each other from the mind-controlling beasts. The two factions entrenched themselves. Skull Spiders raced toward Pohatu, only to be swirled and smacked into a sandstorm. Dark Blue Spiders marched through Gali's water unharmed. X-Ray vision spiders saw through the cacophony and crawled at the Toa from behind. And Onua was locked in a deadly wrestling match with the Lord of Skull Spiders himself, surrounded by spiders who could withstand his great strength - but not his earth power.

Meanwhile, Umina reluctantly tore her eyes away from the spectacle. Finding herself in the region of Stone, she made the hike to claim her Golden Mask.

Umina: Mask of Stone: Success.

Pahrak #0579 shook his head in order to come to his senses. He was in the region of Fire. Carefully - although hand-shields were shaking - he made a stone bridge and quickly crossed it to claim his mask of Fire.

Pahrak #0579: Mask of Fire: Success.

Astapi also found himself in the region of Fire. Surfing in the lava channels of Okoto helped calm his nerves, and it was there that he found his Golden Mask.

Astapi: Mask of Fire: Success.

Underscore's twins found themselves in the ice region. The two leaned on each other for support as they made their way to the Golden Mask.

Underscore: Mask of Ice: Success.

Portal followed them, his portals blinking in and out to help him see. One of those portals showed him a Golden Mask, however, and the fig was not about to pass up the opportunity.

Portal: Mask of Ice: Success.

* * *
The chamber was a mess. Dead Skull Spiders littered the forges, mixed with molten metal. Half of the clocks were broken. The Lord of Skull Spiders groaned, half of its limbs ripped out by Onua.

Lord of Skull Spiders: Defeated.

"That was easy" chortled Tahu, striking a pose. Kopaka scowled at him. Gali shook her head. The six circled around the forges, looking for something of value, but it appeared that there was little for the Toa to care about.

"There must be something of value here" Pohatu said. "Something the spiders wanted to guard."

"You fools!" Gali said. "Pohatu, this is their home! They were just defending it. From us."

"Mighty strange home for a bunch of Spiders, sister" Onua said. "I say we have a better look around tomorrow."

The group of villains shivered as the six Toa walked out the door. It appeared that their job had just got a whole lot harder.

UNLESS LISTED ABOVE, ALL OTHER MASK MAKING ATTEMPTS FOR THIS ROUND HAVE FAILED

BEGIN ROUND 3 DEATH MATCH

In addition to the standard information, all of you will receive a list of the masks you have earned/retained from previous rounds. Please make sure that my records match what you remember. You also may find that information useful in choosing who to attack this round.

Remember that if you attack someone who does not have a mask for the round (or someone who has already lost their mask) with your weapon, that person will die and you will claim all the elemental masks the person is currently holding from previous rounds. That is, unless that person also chooses to weapon attack you at the same time.

If you choose to abstain from the round, please post that you are abstaining so that the game may continue. Thanks.

END OF ROUND 3

Flames and smoke licked the bottom floor of Underscore's hut, seeking their unwary and sleeping prey. There was no escape from what seemed to be the most treacherous of inevitable doom.

But in the most insidious of twists of fate, the flames caught the eye of one that should not see them. A Ta-Matoran. Running into the burning building, the anonymous rescuer swooped up the twins in a flame retardant blanket and spirited them to safety. They barely stirred as they were put down on their neighbor's lawn.

As the Ta-Matoran put the twins down, their would-be killer would see him transform. His body would grow wider, his head grow smaller, and his arms grow emaciatedly thin. The killer would shiver, for this villain was worse than him, worse than the Skull Spiders and the Toa and Makuta himself...

The RNG.

* * *
Pulse was overseeing his minion's repairs to his mansion. With Toa on the loose, he could not afford to wait. One of his henchmen brought him back a mask of Stone, which Pulse immediately put to use in repairing the walls. Soon, Pulse thought, all this drama will be behind me.

He never saw it coming. The blow, a strong cuff from a Bohrok hand-shield, knocked him clean out. He never felt the armored foot come down on his neck, and the twist that ended his life. It was unfortunate that his attacker had no interest in the Mask of Stone that he was wearing, or he might have lived another day. But alas, the killer had only eyes for the Masks of Fire, Jungle, and Ice in his vault, which they bashed into easily enough. Although they did pick up that other mask on the way out, so who knew?

Pulse: DEAD, killed by Pahrak #0579.

* * *
"Oh, how so very good to see you." Lucina said, allowing her voice to dip into it's lower range. The shapeswitcher allowed a grin to slip across her lovely face.

"Do please, have a seat." Garadur said, enjoying the attention. He was in the middle of preparing a special meal, and with a few additions of special magic, it would go for two.

"Preeetty." Lucina said, looking at the golden masks on the walls.

"Yes, yes." the wizard sighed. "Trophies of conquest, and all of that. Please, have a seat."

The two beings managed to finish their meal. "Such delicious food." Lucina said. Sometimes it did help to include a grain of truth in compliments. The food really was delicious. The shapeswitcher spared a glance at the masks. Such a shame.

She stood up and began to walk around the table. The wizard started to get up, but Lucina stopped him with a wave of her hand. "No need. I just...prefer to stand for the moment." She walked behind the wizard and bent over a little...

CRASH. The door in front of the pair burst open, revealing the vicious glare of Umina. Lucina cursed as her form rapidly assumed that of Voltex. Stepping out, he threw a vicious punch, leaving the stunned wizard to fall out of the chair and hit the floor with a sickening crack. Quickly, Voltex snatched the three masks and jumped out of the window, leaving Umina to howl with frustration.

Garadur: DEAD, killed by Voltex.

* * *
While Astapi was looking at the ferocious abomination in front of him, he felt a sharp impact to the back of the head. Ghidora, wielder of a baseball bat, looked over the scene and ran off with Astapi's Mask of Fire, kicking the RNG across the street where it got ran over by a minivan.

The sickening crunch woke up Underscore. The two twins looked around, confused. Why were they lying on their neighbor's lawn, wrapped in a flame retardant blanket? What was Astapi doing there? Concluding that it was some sort of trick, and Astapi was somehow responsible, they launched their attack of Ice.

Astapi's ice resistances should have handled such an attack easily, but he was out cold, and the twins hit the one place in the robot's structure, allowing them to freeze its inner workings and smash it to bits.

Astapi: DEAD, killed by Underscore

So enthralled were they in their sudden victory that they missed the horrendous laughter of the RNG. It is a sickening sound that no being should have to hear.

* * *
The morning dawned with only six of our maskmaking friends crossing the threshold. The smears of dead skull spiders had been cleaned up, and the Lord of Skull Spiders had been carried away. The clocks had been replaced.

The blast doors of the forge were still open, however, and the red lights of the forge were still blinking, reminding of them of yesterday's terror. Trying to ignore all of that, the six remaining villains set to work.

Wizard...... I like the sound of that:P

Yeah, for this game I took some artistic license with you all's characters. Garadur was a wizard, Umina is a girl who's short, Ghidora is insane, Voltex is a shapeswitcher, Portal does portals, Pulse was a loaded richmatoran, Pahrak #0579 is a Pahrak, Underscore is a pair of twins, and Astapi was...Astapi. I kinda pictured him as a robot.

I had to have "night" scenes for the second half of each round because that part of it takes in some Mafia game components (but there are so many attacks, and not all of them work...it's supposed to shed some doubt on who has what mask, not on who is alive). After Voltex's antics inspired the scene for Round 0, I decided to go all out and write mask making scenes too, as I figured the game would be more interesting that way. (But I really need to make the day scenes shorter. I just keep coming up with more ideas lol.)

HOST NOTE:

I want to give a hats off to Pulse, Liuth and keith. There's a reason the RNG made Astapi's last scene - that was what truly ended his life, not any lack of skill. Well played. :)

Pulse also had his problems with the odds, but they weren't anywhere near what Astapi's problems were. The odds of this round happening was approximately 7.4%, but it happened.

The death match for Round 3 will make my analysis post at the end of the game when I reveal the elemental death match game formula and discuss areas where this game style could be adjusted or improved. :)

END OF ROUND 4 MASK MAKING

Everyone set to work, nervously looking about for intruders. But it appeared that Onua's prediction would prove false.

Pahrak #0579: Masks of Earth and Stone: Success to both.

Ghidora: Masks of Jungle and Water: Success to both.

Umina: Mask of Fire: Success.

Umina: Mask of Ice: Failure.

Voltex: Mask of Fire: Success.

Voltex: Mask of Water: Failure.

Underscore: Masks of Fire and Earth: Success to both!

Portal: Masks of Fire and Jungle: Success to both.

Sorry for delays, everyone! I had to do some IRL stuff, and scenes/PMs take time to write. Here we go!

END OF ROUND 4

The night began with Ghidora walking up to Pahrak #0579's nest, carrying a very large Gali Mata hook, and wearing a backpack with a battery-powered toaster. He did a surprisingly gentlemanly thing: he knocked on the door.

"What do you want?" Pahrak demanded.

"A Mask of Stone" Ghidora said. The door slammed in his face. Ghidora looked at the door, surprised for a few seconds. Then he rapped on the door again.

A few seconds later, Pahrak opened the door, holding a mask of Stone. "I have a spare" he whispered. "Don't tell Voltex where I live, and we got a deal."

Ghidora nodded. "I mean it," Pahrak hissed. "If I see any part of Voltex tonight, you will dead tomorrow."

Ghidora ran away from Pahrak's place, laughing. Pahrak sighed.

* * *
Voltex, fortunately for Ghidora, was somewhere else entirely. Namely, his armored hands were clamped over Underscore's twins' mouths. "You can stop struggling. I'm just here for a Mask of Earth. You'll be able to make your precious mask in the morning."

In response, one of the twins gave off some incoherent murmuring. Voltex just hauled off and punched him, knocking him out. Then he sorted though the mask collection, found what he needed, and stomped out of the door.

* * *
Umina was absolutely furious. Soon everyone else would reach the Mask of Ultimate power and she would be out in the cold! This was unacceptable. She stomped over to Ghidora's house, where Portal had been hanging out, since it seemed the crazytoran was never home. The portalmaster looked up from his game of solitaire to see a rush of deadly flames headed his way. Quickly, he made a portal above a waterfall pool and dived into it with a splash. The flames roared above him, but the Matoran was unharmed.

Back at Ghidora's, Umina shouted her head off. ##### fire ##### KARZAHNI'S PET SPIDER FACES!

A RNG appeared through a portal and started laughing. It escaped through another one right before Umina would have punched it to smithereens.

* * *
Underscore's twins pulled themselves together. "Where was that Mask of Earth?" one of the twins asked. "Voltex took it." the other one said. "I thought we had a spare." The other one said.

They did. But by the time they found it, the sun poked over the horizon. There would be no more attacks for them tonight.

* * *
Portal was in a bad way. He was floating aimlessly down a river, right past a riveting and horrific battle. Elemental powers and shadow powers raged on a bridge above him, as the six Toa were locked in a horrific battle against six of Makuta's minions. A skull scorpion fell off the bridge, and why immediately became clear - the bridge was coming down. He needed to get out of there, fast!

Frantically, Portal thought through all of the places he knew. A portal opened...

* * *
Pahrak #0579 had rethought his deal with Ghidora. About five times. And now, for the sixth time, he had concluded that it was a bad idea. He needed to find his remaining Mask of Stone.

And that's when a bunch of water crashed into his bedroom, scattering his collection of masks all over the place. The only thing the Bohrok could do was frantically grab up all of his masks...but not before he saw a Matoran hand grab the Mask of Earth he so badly needed, and hug it to his chest like it was his last friend. Only one Matoran would do that, and the name came to his speech circuits with a shriek.

Poooortaaaal!

BEGIN ROUND 5 MASK MAKING

Information PMs will be sent out shortly. If I inform you that you may make the Mask of Ultimate Power this round, you may claim it by posting here and stating that you wish to make the Mask of Ultimate Power. You may not make another mask in addition to the MoUP.

For the rest of you, this will function as a normal mask-making round. I will inform you of the masks that you are currently lacking to achieve your goal. Keep in mind that you have still not lost the game! Those who make the MoUP this round will have lowered elemental resistances for the following death match, allowing you to claim their MoUPs using elemental attacks.

Good luck to everyone!  :)

(and this is where I try to keep up with you all. Go!)
