In Search of Enlightenment

Near the peaceful village of BZ-Koro, there stood a grand mountain; on this mountain, a temple; in this temple, a single man. Long ages prior to the modern day did this man arrive in BZ-Koro, his eyes and mind forever set upon the mountain lying so near at hand. For a time, he was distracted, pestering his fellows in the village, writing with an honourable intent but with an amateurish level of skill. Yet never did his thoughts stray far from the mountain. One day, he put down his pencil and paper, gathered his items, and set out for the mountain, leaving his former home within the Library. For many a day, he wasn't seen again, except for when his former fellows wrote of him in their own stories.

Yet soon it was seen that he had ascended this mountain. A shining radiance burst forth from the mountain top, from an old temple that had been constructed there ages before even this man had come to the village. And this man descended from the mountain, enlightenment shining in his eyes, as he greeted his brothers among the people. This man was the first Grochi. In the ages since, this Grochi has taken many forms. He has travelled the lands as a Toa, and traversed the waters as an Otter. He has seen all shapes of creature and all manners of life, and has grown all the more in it.

He is now infinite. Unto infinity, his understanding encompasses all thing. Grochi ad Infinitum.

His former fellows have all, long since, left the village, for newer, stranger lands. But the Grochi never left, staying instead behind, to guide his newer brothers, to be a teacher, and a friend. Despite the ridicule he receieved, he never left, knowing that, one day, his successors would come to him, and meet him, and learn from him. One day, others would seek enlightenment much as he had.

And when the time came that seemed darkest for the Grochi, did his followers and successors come. A great king of the Southern Isles, of exotic appearance and of steadfast, loyal friendship, and grand humour - this one was Hubertus Rex, better known as Hubert, a scholar and a gentleman, and lover of the arts.

The next was a being of feline inclinations, and a long-time resident of the village; this man was named Snelly, a hard worker, and a lover of all that was living and benevolent in the world.

The third of these companions was a tinkerer, a lover of machines - and a descendant and member of the great tribes of the Northlands. He went by the title of Geardirector among those in the village, often shortened to Gear...but among his companions he revealed his tribal name of Arwhed.

The last was a freedom fighter from the forests in the East, an honourable scholar and lover of all cultures. The heir of an old empire now forgotten, this man is known as Dovydas, and while possessed of a considerable temper, is also known for his self control and his unshakeable loyalty.

These four companions were the ones who learned from the Grochi, and who were soon to ascend the mountain. Yet they would not be free from perils of their own - be they internal struggles, great battles fought with one's own conscience inside their consciousness, or be they external, either the dangers of nature that must be overcome, or the naysaying of their fellows among the village. Yea, even the outright attacks and predation from those within the village who were violently opposed to their course of action. Enlightenment was not to be achieved without struggles and sorrow. It was not certain that any of these four companions would survive, even with the guidance of their teacher, the first and the original Grochi.

But this is their story. The story of their search for enlightenment, as they strive to achieve true Grochidom.

And this story must be told.
