00dude00
Some of you old timers may remember me from a fan project that went on waaaaay back when to create 3D media for Bionicle called Bionicle: Next Generation, or as the guy who made the 3D model which was later turned into a solid bronze vahi (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17169-solid-bronze-mask-of-time-human-scale/) and 3D printed a voya nui online game style Ignika (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/4354-kanohi-ignika-voya-nui-online-game-style-real-mask/). A few months back I was with a friend who shares my love of Bionicle and he showed me a redesign of a Miru he drew. Since his birthday was coming up I suggested that I could model his design and get it printed. As you can imagine he jumped on the idea and after a month or so of on and off work I finally had a final model, and a couple weeks after that his present arrived in the mail from Shapeways. I unfortunately forgot to ask him to get some pictures of it before he painted it, but with that aside I really like what he did with the white paint and I feel it gives it a tribal feeling reminiscent of those early years. Here is the Photobucket gallery: http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/library/Miru%20redesigninside it are also some progress pictures (that are pretty bad quality I must admit as at the time I was just using them for feedback from my friend) as well as some of the original drawings my friend did. I apologize for not having better quality images of the mask itself, I'm just using what I have. After seeing the mask, me and my buddy were really happy with how it turned out, so we thought we might as well make it available to anyone else who wants one! I have a topic discussing the details of obtaining that along with my old Ignika model (which I am now also putting up for you guys on Shapeways) right here: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17955-3d-printed-ignika-miru-redesign-for-sale/ Edited March 18, 2015 by 00dude00
Vahkiti Master of Time
This looks amazing! I'd actually really love to see this on Lewa G2 instead of his current totally-not Cyberman head. Good to see you back active on the forums too! ^-^ Quote Admin of Mask Of Destiny. Founder of The Beaverhouse, Litestone, & 810NICLE Day.
00dude00
Thanks! That was actually one of the first things I wanted to see as well... thing is, it doesn't look very good XD The new Bionicle designs as you may have noticed use relatively small masks when compared to a lot of the metru and even mata ones. This mask is about as big as 08 Takanuva's and as a result putting it on G2 Lewa makes him look kinda like a bobble head. XD I was looking through my old messages though and actually found a (blurry) pic of the mask before it was painted on a Turaga Lewa MOC my friend made! he also provided me with a couple of size comparison pics, so I'll add those to the gallery! I'd also Like to add that I personally like the mask best on the Mata head, which you can see here: http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/media/Miru%20redesign/download_20150318_213741_zpsieibe4c0.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0size comparison (08 avohkii): http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/media/Miru%20redesign/download_20150318_211850_zps5a5h9ie7.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1size comparison (original): http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/00dude00/media/Miru%20redesign/download_20150318_211854_zpsx6owayib.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Edited March 19, 2015 by 00dude00
Maphrox: Toa of Polygons
It's looking pretty cool, is this detail plastic or strong/flexible? Quote I make stuff sometimes.
00dude00
Hey Maph! That's the detail plastic, although tbh I would have done the paint job differently to preserve its smoothness. The print lines were actually pretty much invisible XD
Maphrox: Toa of Polygons
Does it feel solid? I'm thinking I should test it for my own prints. Quote I make stuff sometimes.
00dude00
Yeah. It's very solid. The strong and flexible seems somewhere in between the metru masks and the flexibility of the glatorian masks. The detail plastic forgoes that flexibility for a crisper print, but it still feels very strong. I can't see the piece being damaged without you actually trying to break it (or if your print was poorly designed and you have long thin unsupported walls, then it could snap off I imagine, but that would be more of a design issue than one with the material. AdaptingChaos
Awesome! Now I theres a possibility of owning a purple Miru! Great work by the way, a very nine design!
doodleloot
That mask looks absolutely fantastic. Your friend did a really good job at designing a new mask that is instantly recognizable as a Miru and the model you made is pretty impressive too! I might order one for myself. Aanchir
Interesting. It's definitely very creative and has a nice tribal flair. However, Lewa's trickster-like grin isn't as readily apparent here as on the original (or the 2015 version). I wish you had a better picture of the painted one — the photo you have isn't lit too well so it's hard to make out its contours. 00dude00
Thanks guys! In response to Aanchir, I agree as well about the pictures and am sorry about that. I hold myself to a relatively high standard when it comes to painting and photographing my models (as you can see in my ignika topic), but in this situation I , unfortunately, wasn't able to do either. There's still the possibility that one of the people who ordered the mask might be nice enough to send more images though, and if they do, I'll update the topic immediately! Munty
This is a very well done model but it seems rather too big by comparison to the original Miru. It looks like it's actually even bigger than titan takanuva's mask which seems nuts. How does it look on the actual Lewa set? I can't help but think it will look very long. And the low chin seems likely to hang below the shoulders which is another thing you wouldn't really want from a mask of power I think Very nice model though, and nice design too. Good job Quote Check out my Bionicle store on Bricklink here!> > > Bionic Bricks < < < Let me know if you can help me find these last few collectibles! Also looking for WILD KRAATA and a VMKK Yo!!! Akavakaku
Cool, but the chin is way too big for my tastes. Aside from that it's how I imagine the Adaptive Miru in its default state.
