Custom Torso Help.

So I've spent the past couple of hours trying to replicate the torso of this character without the shoulder loops, but to no avail. I just can't seem to get the skeleton design and armor placement right, especially how the upper torso tapers into the waist in a "V" shape. Any tips would be really appreciated.

Here's a couple more photos for further reference.

The first thing that came into my mind was this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60918

Although I DO have a custom torso design that I use occasionally. It would have wide-ish shoulders and a literal 1-stud waist above the hips.  I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Hmm, alrighty. I'll await your pics.

Depending on the scale you're using, the new Gali 2015 mask could be a decent fit for the torso area. Though I'm not entirely sure how you could place the heartlight details onto that mask. But man, do you have your work cut out for you; it looks like a pretty difficult character to try and replicate!

My advice to you is to use LDD first for some prototyping before you could move onto building the actual thing. Granted, you might not find the real pieces in the right colors, but your overall design will be easier to replicate with a much wider parts selection. Anyway, best of luck to you!

PS: Try to experiment with these bad boys.. if you have any, that is. You're probably also going to need plenty of ball joints to make this work.

Woa, wasn't expecting that when I clicked that link!

I do hope you'll post her here when your done. The more SC Mocs, the better! :D

one question though, are you gonna use a Krana Za as her face? I allways wanted to see someone pull that off...

Krana Za?! I ever thought about using that! I'm gonna have to brick-link it, though. The only one I have is yellow and it's pretty damaged.

Was going to make her face completely custom, which involved slanted Bohrok eyes.

Hmm...I guess I try to work in some blue studs behind the mask? I dunno. And I'll try LDD, but I dunno if my Chromebook will allow me to download it.

The only disadvantage I see to using LDD is that it doesn't allow some "illegal" connections that might be crucial for arriving at certain shapes/patterns. I try to work around that in most of my LDD models, though. It's pretty cool to use, I feel. If you come stuck while prototyping do let me know. I might be able to help you out!

Torso instructions:

These are all of the pieces you need. I didn't realize until long after I took this that you actually need six 2 stud axles and you don't need the black 3 stud pin. The trans green stud and the tire are optional, but highly recommend later on.

This is the tricky part. The Glatorian neck needs to just sit there for now.

The axle should go through the top hole of the Glatorian neck and the axle on the Nuva chest armor should only go halfway through the bottom hole.

A heartlight is not necessary but is highly recommended.

If you slide the tire over the Glatorian neck it helps to fill the empty space in the abdomen.

On to the hips/waist.

The second hand piece helps to fill out the hip area as well. You can also but a Bohrok eye on the front or back of the hips (pointing up) to add a little detail and color variety.

A MOC I did a while ago that uses the torso design. I really don't know what it is though... Toa Vhisola I guess?

I think that this design might work pretty well for your purposes.

Hmm, I'll give that a thought. I'm not really a good MOCist, so don't exspect anything mind blowing everyone, lol.

Anyways, might as well update my progress, ye'? Well I've pretty much finished the prototype torso, with the help of G2 Gali's golden mask of water. I'm going to work on the arms next, in which I have to buy another PoW for the trans-light blue T-ball and socket limbs.

Were my instructions of any help or did you use a different design?

Defiantly! Your instructions for the 'shoulder' area really helped a lot.

Oh! and another thing, Have a quick look at this.

See those hands? with the extra minifig limb on the other side, it would be a great approximation to the Protoss's hands! cuz ya know, they have 4 fingers, two of which are thumbs...

Lol that made me laugh for some reason. So I got to make another brick-link order (still haven't made one for the Za amongst other things yet) Which means I'm afraid I probably won't finish the MOC for at least another month.

Don't worry about getting it done soon! We're all patient here, it's a loving community. You should now that by now, Mr. Been-Here-Since-2009. Take your time, and do your best. I'm looking forward to seeing this thing complete, so make sure you don't rush it, okay?
