LEGO Scooby-Doo Movie Coming...

... as confirmed by composer Robert J. Kral.

I submitted this tidbit of news to the BZP news team a few days ago. But I guess they're not interested.

For the 99.3% of you who don't know who Kral is, this won't be his first outing with Scoob... he scored Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur (never saw that one) as well as all 52 episodes of fan-favorite Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (excellent series, excellent score).

He impressed me with SD:MI, so I'm sure he'll blow me away again this time around. Though I'm not sure the world is in need of a LEGO Scooby-Doo movie. Maybe it'll have a 5.1 mix, at least...

This... actually doesn't surprise me. Normally I'd expect a TV special that is later released on DVD, but direct-to-DVD movies are like the Scooby Doo franchise's bread and butter.

Hoping it's at least as good as the Lego Star Wars TV specials!

Well at least it's not a Lego Scooby-Doo video game which I think need to have a very different gameplay instead of the point A to point B thing that all the other Lego game had from Lego Star Wars to now (not counting Lego Rock Band).

I once had a Scooby-Doo PC game. The cool thing about it was that the man behind the mask would change each time you played, and the mystery changed slightly to reflect the many identities the monster could have.

That could be an interesting idea for a Lego Scooby-Doo game...

I think I could see a Lego Scooby Doo game working. There's plenty of source material to draw from, and just by tweaking the TT Games formula a bit I could see how it could work for a much less linear story. I'm thinking levels with slightly more open-world exploration, like with Luigi's Mansion. Instead of just a linear start and end, you'd take the individual members of the gang around various settings (the show certainly has featured enough over the years to draw from), looking for brick-built "clues" that could then be "reassembled", pointing closer to the villain under the mask. The basic gameplay could remain the same, with characters breaking apart their environment and solving puzzles to find clues—but the mystery-solving aspect, combined with well-loved tropes of the TV show such as wacky chase sequences, would probably make a big difference in terms of setting it apart from the other Lego games.

...Now look what you made me do. I went and thought up a great format for a Lego Scooby Doo game, and now I'll probably end up upset if there ISN'T one. Thanks a lot. :P

Who will voice Shaggy?

I wouldn't be surprised if the movie just uses the same voice cast as the cartoon, or at least its current iteration. This isn't like the Lego Star Wars specials—the cast of Scooby Doo is already made up entirely of professional voice actors, who aren't above voicing a direct-to-DVD movie.
