Grungemeister
BS01 doesn't have much information on them, so here's a few questions about my favorite creature in the MU: Are they completely organic? Do all have spines, or was Spinax mutated by the pit mutagen? Can they be handled by non-OOMT members? Are they even used by non-Maxilos units? I'm pretty sure this is the right board. Sorry if it's not. 1 Quote A RUDE AWAKENING - A Bionicle G1 continuation and video-game project(MUSIC COMPOSER) special thx to Inary the Gunhaver for my new username. The Hip Historian Iaredios
Ah, hello my friend! Ah the energy hounds, I forgot about these critters, even though the Maxilos set is probably my favorite set (Teri and his pet). Lets see if I can help answer your question now: -- No, the canines are not fully organic: I think only about 98% is biomechanical, only 2, maybe even 1 % are fully organic. -- I am sure I read somewhere that energy hounds lack those spines, Spinax is just special (and quite cool looking) because of that dangerous sea-gunk. -- Yeah, I am sure they can be domesticated by anyone. -- See directly above. I think you are in the right area!If not: then slap my knee, me thinks I've done it again! 1 Quote A RUDE AWAKENING - A Spherus Magna redo | Tzais-Kuluu | Pushing Back The Tide | Last Words | Black Coronation | Blue Man Bound | Visions of Thasos ن We are all but grey specks in a dark complex before a single white light
The 1st Shadow
Iaredios covered most of it, but I'd like to clarify a bit. 1. Like almost every other life form in the Matoran Universe, energy hounds are 85% mechanical, and 15% organic. 2. The BS01 pages for Spinax and Energy Hounds in general do not say anything about the spines, so I assume they are a natural feature of all energy hounds. Spinax's page indicates that he only gained the ability to breathe water, however. 3. If the OoMN members could domesticate them, I don't see why someone else couldn't. 4. Yes. Spinax himself is the former pet of Hydraxon. His loyalty to Hydraxon was shown in Legends #8 when Hydraxon turned him against the Maxilos robot possessed by Teridax. 1 Quote ~Your friendly, neighborhood Shadow ~Credit for Avatar and Banner goes to NickonAquaMagna~
fishers64
IIRC the Brotherhood of Makuta were also common energy hound handlers. (They probably created them in the first place. ) Quote Hero Factory RPG | Bionicle Mafia XXIX: Storyline & Theories

A quick check of the relevant information and its source indicates that the hounds were indeed created by the Hand. I was tempted to suggest that the Hand might have requested such creatures to be made by the Brotherhood, but since the Hand disbanded once Mata Nui first awoke, and later on created the Makuta, I realize that is not possible. fishers64
Yarr, indeed, I stand corrected. I still think my statement of the Brotherhood using them is right, however. Pretty sure that was mentioned in one of the 2007 serials or Downfall, but anyway. Pretty sure that was mentioned in one of the 2007 serials or Downfall, but anyway. You're thinking of bonesii's retelling. In it, he wrote Teridax as using an energy hound to track the main character. This hound was named Spinax and was later given to Hydraxon. Wait, why would Mata Nui create the Makuta race after being reawakened? Are you saying that Teridax never had a hand in the end of the Matoran Civil War, or that Rahi were not present before Jovan? Correct. The Hand of Artakha existed while the GSR was still under construction. After it was completed and Mata Nui's AI uploaded to the mainframe, the Hand disbanded. After first being awakened/activated, he created the Makuta along with the many other races in the universe. Therefore, the Hand couldn't have requested the energy hounds from the Brotherhood, as their existence did not coincide, as I had almost suggested. But that brings up a question: Beings like Shadow Stealer and Hydraxon were members of the Hand. So, Mata Nui couldn't have created their races... I should bring this up in the Species list topic. Huh, I wasn't aware that the Hand of Artakha only existed during Tren Krom's reign. Alright, that clears up the confusion, thanks for doing that. With that happening, I wonder if ancient Matoran myths also spoke of how "Paradise" was in turmoil (Core War). This is so cool, I forgot that there was a Matoran Universe before the birth of Mata Nui, sort of alike a primeval mythic era. Are there any stories that take place in this era? 1 Quote A RUDE AWAKENING - A Spherus Magna redo | Tzais-Kuluu | Pushing Back The Tide | Last Words | Black Coronation | Blue Man Bound | Visions of Thasos ن We are all but grey specks in a dark complex before a single white light

No. The Matoran were essentially just worker drones at that point. Members of the Hand were probably designed as overseers so that the Great Beings wouldn't have to monitor the construction themselves. Also, recall that only Raanu seemed to know about the GSR, so we can assume that it was built in a remote location, away from the war. In that case, none of the Matoran or the Hand would have seen or known of it, as it did not pertain to their assigned task. Grungemeister
Woah, this topic sure blew up. Thanks for the answers, guys. I was curious about the spines, since Ehlek gained spines, I wondered if that was true for Spinax, too. Actually, spines are probably a natural feature, since his name was already Spinax. 1 Quote A RUDE AWAKENING - A Bionicle G1 continuation and video-game project(MUSIC COMPOSER) special thx to Inary the Gunhaver for my new username.
