Rahkshi Lalonde
Okay, so, I was planning a thing to submit (maybe) to the Lego Ideas site, but it had to be something really really good and or special, I decided to go with a theme revisit sort of deal, but idk how faithfully i captured the feel? I want feedback as I hope this will be the second-to-last Iteration of this model, (which has taken a long time)FrontBackSideDetailTop Errors with the current model:the crane scoop is too big to fit through the building currently, will replace with thinner scoop. The minifigs don't have the space-logo print, will make a custom decal for the final render. The rail projections are... incomplete, there is also not yet a bucket cart to hold the (not pictured) Ice crystals. (it's already around 570 pieces, i'll only add more stuff it it seems necessary.)rock face element closest to tower isn't anchored too well, not sure how it holds up physics-wise.Unsure of number of pieces in existing colors, oops.Male minifig has no hair, may not be a big problem...?Also take note the previous Iteration, which i consider less appealing but idk? anyway, feedback? EDIT: v3.0 has been finialized, FrontBackInsideLeftRight ChangelogComplete overhaul from first floor-up.Crane-arm moved to left sidetower rework to be space-ier"windows replaced with "space-ier" varientIce crystals FINALLY added to parts countpart count raised fro, "500-something" to "700-something"Roof added! finally a respectable roof! (it swings open!!)More practical details added to interior, more science-y!extra cart to hold ice-crystals. The 1st Shadow
Hm... Both the old and the current have their perks. The current one is very detailed, but may be a little too busy. Functionally, I think the older, smaller version would work better. It carries the same basic design elements without putting too much into it. The render for the current model isn't as good as the one on the first, so that might be playing a part in how I see it, though. For the most part, I like what I see. Quisoves Potoo
The current one is definitely superior, but insufficiently striking. It lacks that "WOW" factor that gets folks to support. It's competently designed, but it doesn't scream "AWESOME FUTURISTIC ICE PLANET COLONY" to me. With a few alterations, it would look right at home in the City theme. I feel like a slightly smaller size with some good details and functionality would be more appealing, as LEGO tends to go that route with most of their sets. Overall, it looks like you've got something good going on here. Rahkshi Lalonde
okay i'm gonna ask some more questions now, i think i've found some of the possible problems: The control tower: (as much as i like this thing, it is clearly the earthiest part of this build, should the tower be removed to allow a more domed, space-y look?) The windows: (i think the front windows are okay, from a build standpoint, but idk, are they space-y enough? i could replace them with domes to get as close to the classic bevel-screens as possible, though that might also make it look kinda aquatic...) Crane track runs through whole building: (this problem is a little obvious, it's kinda fun to have it go through like that, but notably the original Ice Planet base did not have the crane go clean through the building, and it also limits interior space + building any sort of roof, should the crane be moved/restricted to a different part of the build?) Space: Ocean of Awe
I honestly cannot speak more highly of their of the models - they are simply awesome. I really love the classic space themes - which Ice Planet may or may not marginally fit into - regardless, it has the same aesthetic, which you have done a wonderful job capturing. They could easily be real sets. I like the solidity of the original design, both in its colour scheme and structure, which makes it look more like a set. I also love the more detailed design of the newer version, which looks more realistic and seems to have more play features. I think I am overall in favour of the new version, but it's a close call. Either way, I would gladly support this project. =) Quote "Baby, in the final analyses, love is power. That's where the power's at." Rahkshi Lalonde
Needs more TRANS ORANGE CHAINSAWS. It's got three already! (though there was a period of time where i tried putting a gear-driven big saw on the cart, but that proved to be a lot more pieces than anticipated. :t )
