Today we review another LEGO set, this time going back to LEGO Elves and taking a look at 41071 Aira's Creative Workshop, the smallest boxed set in the line. How does this little fantasy playset stack up? Is it worth adding to your shopping cart or is your hard-earned money better off being spent on other sets? You'll have to read on to find out!

I'm pretty sure the pneumatic T on this set does not represent a crank (after all, Lego has a dedicated piece for that courtesy of the Collectible Minifigures). Rather, I think it's a propellor for added propulsion.

Other than that, great review! I'm about midway through a review of this and Naida's Spa Secret for The New Elementary, but that's temporarily on hold until I finish a review of the new Ninjago Airjitzu sets.

I figured it was a crank, personally, and given the size of it I don't think the little winged crank would be an appropriate substitute.  Those kinds of cranks are meant to be wound with a couple of fingers, whereas something like this you'd be gripping with your hands.  After all, there are plenty of propeller pieces, too. :P

Either way it's an enjoyable little set.

What drives me absolutely nuts about this set is that little sliding piece with the cookie print. It's a boring function, doesn't really have an aesthetic purpose, and I'm tired of it falling out every time I try to move the set.

Other than that, I think the set is decent and I quite like it. Makes for a nice little desktop piece.

This looks like a colorful set that comes with some interesting pieces. I won't be getting it, but I like that its a good set for those who are contemplating if they want to get into the theme.

Thanks for the review!

Good review! Pluma the bird is a great design with lots of detail, as of course is the Aira mini-doll. I do not think the workshop's color scheme is as nice as some of the other Elves buildings, perhaps because it's so small and so all those colors are confined to a small space. It's still a nice cozy little space with lots of play features, though, and it's consistent with the architecture of the Elves theme (peaked roofs and pointed arch windows). I like the way the seat is also a step-stool so she can climb up to test her wing pack. It's also a nice way to bring STEM-related play into a fantasy adventure theme.

Funny story — when I first saw pics of the desk, I thought the drawers moved independently, and my brother and I even came up with a technique we thought the set might use to do so. As it turns out, it's just one drawer, which means we came up with the independent drawer technique entirely on our own! But it wouldn't have worked for an object as large as the ink bottle anyway — drawers that small would mostly work for things like coins, hair accessories, and feathers.

It's interesting that this is the one location not to feature prominently in the LEGO Elves TV special "Unite the Magic". All we saw in the episode were the mechanical wing pack and Pluma the bird. But maybe a future episode might feature the workshop itself. In any case, it does still feature in the first year's story, insofar as it is presumably where Aira originally read the Legend of the Five Sisters (which is presumably what the scroll in this set represents) and where she and Pluma the bird are spending their time before they join Emily, Azari, and Farran.

By the way, the Tr. Bright Bluish Violet tile in Aira's hand represents her wind magic! And I think the cookie piece is supposed to be a snack or tray of birdseed for Pluma.
