Legends speak of the primeval crab-legged warrior Koeras, a hero from the time before time. It is said that in the anarchic, primordial era before the rise of the Mask Makers, his name was already revered. For with his Icicle Axe and Chillsaw Shield, he channeled the untamed power of the winter blizzard, vanquishing many a fearsome fiend. Some say that he was admired by even Ekimu, that the smith drew inspiration for the shape of his Protector masks from the form of Koeras' ornate helmet.

But the pandemonium of the ancient era in which he thrived could not last, for in time the Mask Makers rose and tamed the chaos, ushering in an age of peace with no place for such a warrior. Left without purpose, some say he sailed in search of distant wars. Others say he eventually died of old age, or that bereft of meaning he committed suicide. I alone know the truth, or so I claim - with a great enchantment, he froze himself in the heart of the Region of Ice's greatest glacier, to sleep in frozen peace until a time of chaos called for an icy warrior once more. Then Koeras shall awaken, intent upon waging a great war for justice once more.

Let us hope he is not angry that he must share the role...

After building so many Rahkshi, I wanted to experiment with a drastically different shape. Koeras, with the six-legged centaur thing going on, was the first thing I came up with. One part of his build I'm particularly proud of is his helmet - Gelu's on a modern G2 head. It required quite a bit of finagling and some technically illegal connections to make it work but I'm glad it did, since the blue Glatorian heads aren't the right shade and I feel like using the new head really helps him to fit into the lore of Okoto rather than Bara Magna.

Like I've said privately, Koeras is awesome. First of all, it's really something new - I haven't seen such an interesting combination of ideas before. The propertions are perfect, and the fusion of humanoid and arthropod is nicely balanced. The Protector masks and angled Takadox armor parts all nicely blend in to give him a crystalline appearance - in the upper body, at least.

One thing I don't really like is the lack of white and trans light blue in the lower legs. It throws off the otherwise balanced color scheme, and makes them seem almost artificial. The weapons are evened out - I really like the shield/saw, despite the exposed Technic beams. The melee weapon, however, seems a bit random and not very effective. I get the aesthetic you were going for, but I believe it could've been carried out better. That's far from a dealbreaker.

Now I move onto the head. Lemme just say, it's pretty genius. I'm a sucker for Gelu any day, and you've just pretty much blown my mind. Even though the light piping was greatly diminished, it still looks good and flows well with the rest of the MOC.

All in all, a great creation from a great creator. A solid 9.5 out of ten to you, good sir, and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

I love it. Very creative use of the new 2015 parts, particularly in the weapons.

A great example of how CCBS and the old system can still be used to work well together.

Wow... as much as I hate to say it, you should build non-Rahkshi MOCs more often. :P

The color scheme looks great and allows for some very interesting part usage. The torso is excellently built and has incredible shaping, especially for something with six legs. I like how you stuck those 2015 eye pieces in the waist (correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like they're just hanging there without any real connection, which is just as brilliant as if you found a way to connect them). That head is also pretty clever. I've used something similar with the Metru heads, but I think your design is much more stable. The shield design is great too. I love how that saw motif is repeated on the 2015 swords, and that piece between them does a great job of filling the gaps. The axe shape is strange at first glance, but I think it works.

Since I've praised pretty much every bit of this MOC, the only criticism I can come up with is the legs. Compared to the rest of the design, they appear skeletal and disjointed, almost artificial as Aerixx said. Maybe some thick, white armoring on the top tipped with a smaller silver blade could look better.

Just curious, can you shed some light on those "illegal connections" you did to make Gelu's helm fit onto a Bionicle Newva head?

As always, thanks for the support, everyone. :D

A perfectly valid criticism, with which I agree. The problem was finding enough pieces to build six instances of the same leg. In the end, I probably skimped a little because to this, admittedly.  Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be too big a problem.

Amazing MOC, although to me, he likes more a crazy madman than someone who would wage war for justice.

Well, maybe he is. :P They're not mutually exclusive...

Oh, I very much intend to! Certainly I'm done with Rahkshi for quite a while; despite the unique flair I tried to put on each of them it was just getting stale. I've got a few other things in the works for the near future, though... :sly:

You are correct, they just hang there, well supported by the ridge where the eyes normally stick into the front of the head. Well, in theory. In hand they fall off all too frequently. But it's certainly worth it for the effect they impart, I think.

Just curious, can you shed some light on those "illegal connections" you did to make Gelu's helm fit onto a Bionicle Newva head?

Certainly! As is detailed in these gallery pictures, the helmet fits into a ball joint wedged into the holes in the head. A 3 axle with a stud is slipped underneath that, holding a blue stud (both as a meager eyepiece and to hold the axle in place) on the inside end. The outside end holds first a 1x2 liftarm, for spacing, and then a 3-axle connector, pointing up. The connector has a rubber double axle connector, which presses against the ball joint, holding it in place. (All this is probably insanely hard to visualize, though, so give the pictures a look.)

Also, in case anyone's wondering, not all Glatorian heads fit on this configuration; most are too tight to really fit and forcing it will cause the stud to dislodge, loosening the whole thing and ruining it. The helmets of Skrall, Ackar, Berix, Gresh, and Vastus, for example, all suffer from this. Stronius, Vorox, and thankfully Gelu's (probably others too) all work perfectly well, though.

I'm almost mesmerized by the symmetry of the leg assembly. And the complexity of the build really complements the icy and untamed description you have in the bio. It's angular, and I'd even say mineral, though I suppose that's not too apt a description for something made of ice. What I mean to say is, I appreciate the interesting geometry.

The axe, though, I feel is weakened by the use of the wing blade pieces, because they leave that inevitable gap between them and the white/trans-blue parts of the blade. I wish there were some way to fill it.

I love the axe. You don't see that kind of weapon too often, and I really like how you did it. I do think teh shield is a big too big, and it looks a little unwieldy though.
