SDCC Exclusive Mask Review

Recommended Posts

Allen over at The Brick Fan was lucky enough to snag one of the transparent neon green Skull Scorpio masks at San Diego Comic Con yesterday and has shared his thoughts and images of the mask. It looks pretty cool, and I'm also a fan of the artwork on the inside of the packaging. If you're wondering whether the eBay prices are worth it for the mask, go check out the pics to help you decide!

I can understand the rating on the design, but I don't think it has much playability as a single piece than what Allen thinks. That's just my opinion, though.

Oh, that cardboard thing from within the plastic packaging is interesting. It seems to be the forge depicting the fight between good and evil as glowing sources from the ground.

Three and a half stars for playability? Yeesh, this guy is easily entertained, especially for someone who doesn't collect Bionicle. The design is great and it fits the trans color well, and I guess you can't get more value than free if you're at the convention. I wonder if the cardboard is going to be less flimsy since it's folded over itself.

In honor of the anniversary, I'm making a signature. Neat.

Maybe he rated it like that with owning other sets in mind.

I can see that, but I feel it would be more appropriate to rate the mask's playability on what it can do on its own as an individual set, rather than an add-on.

That makes zero logical sense though. Everyone knows that masks go on a face, and that you'd have to buy a set to put it on. These masks are specifically for BIONICLE fans more than anyone else, so it can be assumed that you'd have to factor that into a review. A face is the most identifiable feature on a character, being able to change faces acts as a massive bonus.

What is this item made to do? Fit on a head and act as a face. Does it do this well? Very much so, it is very face-y. 10/10, would kanohi again.

You review a product on whether it does what it's intended to do, and whether or not it does it well. I swear, in this world nobody can deal with items that only have with one real intended function anymore. It's all want want want, more more more. Did anyone learn anything from Jurassic World? Bigger and better isn't the way to go. :P

The prices on eBay aren't that ridiculous, at least not yet. I just nabbed one for $25—maybe a lot for a single piece of plastic, but significantly less than it would have cost to attend the con itself, and a pretty good deal for a limited-edition collectible as far as I'm concerned.

Yep. I just saw somebody bid on that Captain America minifig for over 100$, so as collectibles goes, the Skull Mask is pretty cheap. Though, I'm pretty sure that minifig is significantly more rare.

You're right that it is meant to be an add-on, but I was just saying that I, personally, would rather it be reviewed like an individual set because it was given away as an exclusive individual set.

This is the shortest Bionicle review I've ever read. :P

Joking aside, I've already said my thoughts on this mask, and that was that it looks cool. I don't usually buy stuff online though, so my chances of getting one are slim.

Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.
