PROLOGUE.

Krakua walked slowly through the Fortress's corridors. Each step echoed through the Citadel of Silence, disturbing what would otherwise have been a perfect stillness. Gradually, the echoes started to vary in pitch, a result of Krakua's own sonic powers and... boredom. Eventually, the rhythmic click turned into a soft minimization of a De-Matoran anthem, soft and melodic, reassuring despite the dark times that the Order of Mata Nui was facing.

Suddenly, the steps halted. Krakua stood still, peering over the castle's ramparts. Far in the distance, the De-Toa could observe a large column of black smoke. To him, the signal was clear - begin the tournament.

He made his way to a large, high-tech room, pushing a few buttons on a control panel. Suddenly, the entire room started to lower itself down to a chamber whose walls were lined with large metal cells. They slid open just as Krakua turned to face yet another control panel. Out stepped Matoran of various colors and sizes, each blinking in the sharp light. Just as they became accustomed to the new environment, large chests seemed to mold themselves out of the ground.

It was on.

Manifest: Game has started. You have 24 hours from the time of this posting to PM me your weapon and target.

ROUND 1

When all the Matoran had finished building their weapons of mass destruction, Krakua clapped his hands gently, and a ringing sound echoed through the entire level. Round one had begun.

Zykard made his way through the level, gripping his Fracture Bomb tightly. A quiet fwoosh alerted him to the location of his target, Toa K. Gripping the wall tightly to support himself, the Matoran swiftly tossed his grenade at - no, above - his target. Toa K looked up, catching sight of Zykard’s silhouette diving for cover. He was about to make a witty remark when the ceiling above him started to crumble, sending large pieces of stone tumbling directly onto Toa K’s unsuspecting face. He’d just gotten the dubious honor of being the tournament’s first casualty, and his own target, Master of Shadows, was safe and sound.

On the other side of the level, Sanguivox was searching for Toa K himself, but, obviously, was out of luck. Suddenly, Underscore burst out from behind him, shouting out to frighten out his target. He swung it downward, shooting a miniature river that launched Sanguivox off his feet. The latter struggled to his feet, swinging his NunChukNorrises at Underscore, but the attacker easily sliced through the burning chains with his water-powered sword. A quick jab to the stomach brought Sanguivox out of his misery.

Durahk grinned at his newly-built Flood Grenade. He was sure he could take anyone out with it. He crept up to The Mechanic and chucked it at his target, but was in for a major surprise when his unsuspecting opponent instantly retaliated with a grenade of his own. The Crust Buster landed a few feet away from Durahk, seemingly with little effect. Durahk was about to reach for another one of his own when the Crust Buster activated, generating a small field of gravity that was just powerful enough to force Durahk against the ground. And when its earth powers kicked in, Durahk was crushed within seconds.

The Mechanic gave a small smirk and set out to find his target, Master of Shadows. Little did he know that Master of shadows was looking for him. The two rivals eventually encountered each other in a small chamber. A vicious frenzy ensued, with the Master of Shadows catching every Crust buster in his Gorgon’s Grasp and turning it to stone before it could activate. After some time, the two realized that they were getting no-where. After a few half-hearted “goodbye”s and “I’ll get you next time”s, they turned away from each other and were on their merry way.

Further down the complex, fishers was gunning for Mr. Happy. She found him playing around with his weapon, the Juicer, seemingly without a care in the world (unknown to him, his target, Sanguivox, had already been taken care of). She let out a few rounds from her Pneumatically Accelerated Machine gun, but they were swiftly blocked by Mr. Happy’s water-powered shield. The latter was about to charge up the Juicer’s massive psionic water missile when fishers cued her own surprise. She simply let go of her gun, sending it flying at the Juicer. The gun collided with the shield, knocking it out of Mr. Happy’s hand. Mr. Happy simply looked at his masterpiece in astonishment, lying in a corner meters away from him. Suddenly, the Juicer released its special power and shot out of the corner, propelled by the massive stream of water it had generated. It flew erratically through the air, randomly swerving into Mr. Happy’s neck and shearing his head off. Wow, the irony.

Arzaki ran into the room, aiming to beat the tar out of Mr. Happy, only to see fishers standing proudly over his headless corpse. Arzaki backed away apologetically, disappointed in missing a kill but glad that he was alive. In hindsight, if fishers hadn’t gotten him first, Mr. Happy’s Juicer would have been the perfect weapon to counteract Arzaki’s Hydrorb Staff.

Another clap then echoed through the level, and the weapons in the contestants’ hands dissolved into golden mist. Krakua gathered up all the surviving Matoran and congratulated them on surviving the first round. like before, the entire level shifted around to prepare for the next round. New equipment chests rose out of the stone floor.

Round two was about to begin.

ROUND 2

A bad day was ahead for the Master of Shadows.

Said uber-villain was treading through the arena, searching for his archenemy. The Mechanic was likewise on the lookout for Master of Shadows, aiming for a rematch - but this time, he had backup. Zykard, Underscore and Arzaki were all behind him, ready to dish out some justice. They found Master of Shadows plotting everyone’s bloody demise just within sight.

Zykard leapt at the opportunity, charging forward and slicing downward with his Kelvin Edge. Super-sharp icicles flew at Master of Shadows, but he masterfully slipped out of the way and released one quick pump of nitrogen from his Smoker, seemingly to no effect. Zykard grinned, apparently unharmed. He was about to thrust a final blow at Master’s chest, but suddenly crumpled to the floor. Dead before he hit the ground.

The Mechanic grit his teeth, angry at losing a valuable ally - and the element of surprise. He growled and raised his Hydro-Jack, the hammer head of water shifting and flowing until it became a large fist. He roared and brought it down on Master’s face, but the latter managed to block it with his Smoker, sending another cloud of nitrogen out of the gun. It froze the fist, the intense cold messing with the mechanical devices inside the metal rod and rendering it useless. Unfortunately for the Master of Shadows, the impact had also smashed the Smoker beyond repair.

It seemed there was to be another draw, but leave it to Underscore to ruin the moment. The Matoran, without thinking, brought his superheated club down onto Master’s head, instantly killing the archvillain. At his side, Arzaki angrily stomped his foot, having missed what he believed to be an easy kill for his Matoran Melter.

fishers burst into the room, looking for Zykard. She found his corpse next to Master’s, already cold. She cursed. She’d been wanting to try out her Ice Cold Vacuum Cleaner of Doom. Shame.

Krakua again gathered all the survivors up and began the next round. This one promised to be more eventful.

Well that's disappointing. Fighting to a draw both times, and then having someone else steal the kill. Meh, anyway, I think it would have been better to make a new post instead of editing the existing one. You know, so that everyone would know that there's a new post. And stuff. Just a suggestion.

ROUND 3

Whatever had plagued the Master of Shadows last round seemed to have passed on to fishers.

Arzaki scaled a large wall with his Rock Raider, fishers dead ahead. It seemed she hadn’t noticed him yet. So far, so good. Arzaki slid down the other side of the wall, leaping off at the last second to shoot a powerful burst of lightning at fishers’ head. She felt the electricity burning towards her, but reacted too late. A lone arc of high voltage struck her in the back, knocking her off her feet. She struggled to get up. Arzaki strolled towards her, confident in victory. His drill shifted into a claw to deliver a final, finishing strike, but fishers suddenly pulled out her Grenade-Powered Flame Thrower and pumped a burst of explosive energy into Arzaki’s face. Arzaki reeled back, grasping his burning head before finally collapsing into the dust.

fishers stood up, shaken but very much alive. She looked around, surveying the territory for her target, The Mechanic. A few steps in the right direction led her to a shallow - but wide - pit, in which The Mechanic was wrapping up with the creation of his weapon. Without hesitation, fishers activated her flame thrower, sending a spread of explosive fire over her opponent. He, however, was prepared for ambush and leapt out of the way, firing a round from his “Long Distance Hangover” grapple gun. It connected with fishers’ shoulder, beginning to fracture her Protosteel armor. She cried out in pain, but managed to rip the hook out of her shoulder, leaving it useless.

Unfortunately for fishers, her flame thrower was out of grenade power. It seemed that no more could be done here, and fishers and The Mechanic would be forced to part ways. Suddenly, Underscore tore out of the wall behind them, firing his own, fire-enhanced grapple hook at fishers. It skewered her through the back, intense heat radiating from the center of the hook.

By the time he reeled the rope back in, fishers was already dead. Krakua stepped out of the shadows, confronting the two survivors. A one-on-one final battle would necessitate… a different environment. The arena shifted itself over and over, and two chests rose out of the ground. These were larger, however. Plated with gold and twice as large, they really meant business.

Krakua disappeared again, ready to watch this final round unfold.

FINAL ROUND

The time had come. The Final Round had begun.

The Mechanic shut his chest with a resounding clang, hefting his Literal Nuke. He’d put everything he could into this mega-launcher of ultimate destruction, and was convinced that nothing would stand in his way. After having two out of three of his fights end in draws, and losing the opportunity to kill his archenemy, he was karzbound on winning the tournament.

On the other side of the large arena, Underscore prepared his Thunder Grenade. He’d eliminated all three of his targets over the course of the game, and was confident his killstreak wouldn’t be ended by a grubby weaponeer. It was time to show how powerful he really was.

The Mechanic made his move first. He ducked behind a wall, making sure that Underscore was in his sights. A deep breath and he pushed the trigger on his grenade launcher, sending out a single grenade at Underscore’s location.

Underscore, however, saw the ball of destruction coming towards him and chucked a grenade of his own. The throw didn’t have as much power as The Mechanic’s, however, but Underscore would use it to his advantage.

The Thunder Grenade activated in midair, emitting a steady stream of water before turning into an all out tidal wave. When the Literal Nuke hit the earth beside Underscore, it was obscured by a tsunami and a thunderstorm. Both weapons exploded, sending Underscore flying. He crashed against a wall, leaving a large dent. It hurt, but he was still up and running.

The Mechanic growled in frustration. He was so close! So- Suddenly, a wall of water and electricity slammed into him, flattening him against the ground and thoroughly electrocuting him. This was the opening Underscore was waiting for. He crept up to his opponent.

The Mechanic struggled to his feet, pulling out his nuke gun and aiming a shaky hand at Underscore. He was surprised to find his attacker... grinning. Underscore gently, but precisely, tossed his Thunder Grenade at The Mechanic, lodging it in the gun’s barrel. Then he turned and ran for his life.

The Mechanic’s eyes widened, but it was too late. His sabotaged weapon exploded with the combined force of a tsunami, a torrential tempest, and a couple of miniature nukes combined. He was instantly vaporized, letting out a final guttural scream. He’d been so close.

A second later, everything inside the room vanished. Krakua strode in, stopping a few feet away from Underscore’s shattered form. He was still breathing.

Manifest

The Mechanic was eliminated in the final round.

An epilogue will be up soon.

EPILOGUE.

Underscore had recuperated quite nicely. Only a few weeks had passed and he was already in fighting shape. Of course, this recovery had been powered by the Artifact - otherwise, he'd probably be long dead.

Krakua had returned to pacing the ramparts of the castle, keeping watch over the land surrounding the Citadel of Silence. He knew the castle's days were numbered, and had to make sure Underscore made it to the next Fortress as easily as possible.

One dark evening, Krakua knew it was time. His advanced hearing had picked up a faint rustling that only trained agents could recognize as Baterra. Quietly, he strode over to Underscore and whispered a few short words. The Matoran nodded and followed Krakua into a hidden trapdoor. They made their way down a steep flight of stairs and arrived at a small chamber which hosted the Mask of Creation resting on an ornate stone pedestal. Krakua confidently lifted it up and placed it into a rucksack, handing it over to Underscore. The Matoran gingerly took it and slung it around his shoulders. Before he could make a move, however, golden energy began to emanate from the Artifact until it enveloped Underscore completely. His body pulsed once, twice before extinguishing again. Underscore was now a Toa, ready to take on the world.

He gave a brief nod to Krakua before climbing out of the chamber and leaping off the ramparts. It was on.

~~~
Everyone, thanks for playing. This turned out a lot better than I'd expected it to, and I'm glad you all had fun. Toa Onaku will host the next game, so stay tuned for that!  ^_^
