Small town off the main grid, scarcely more than a frozen little hamlet up in the mountains. Issue at hand being a lack of taxation reports and exports, he and his two soldiers had been sent to check up on them, maybe rough'em up depending on how the peasantry reacted to their incursion. The frosty air was clear and harsh tundra sunlight sterile on the morning they'd rolled up. Harsh weather the night before meant that, "getting back out? Gonna take a few days Sarge!" In the words of his engineer. He frowned as the quote, 'frozen little hamlet' came into view. It was low and sprawling and unkempt, the treads on his tank kicking up mud and dirt. The mechanical beast got more than a couple funny looks from the villagers, bundled against the cold and altogether too eager to stare silently at them, queer folk for certain.They circled the settlement under scrutiny, eventually entering the perimeter and parking boldly in the town's square, an obscene gesture. Making a few short quips with his men, he opened the hatch, demanding to be taken to and given audience with their leader. Claims of evil spirits, malign faeries and iniquitous wickedness had been moving through the small hamlet as such rumors tended to do. It was even said that it was them, return once more.... Silence broken only by a scream, villagers rushed inwards to find the commander, the deacon and the turaga. The later most dead, a bullet hole steaming in the cold air. Having a firearm on his person, the commander was a victim of fate. Taken by the ravenous mob, he was led to the gallows and quickly lynched. Distraught but unable to overpower such a mob, his two soldiers watched in horror, for that was all they could do...
