GM IC SHADE

The undersides of the furniture were largely clean, but there were still a couple of listening devices hidden in discreet locations under some of the beds and chairs. Somebody wanted to know what was said in this room, apparently.

GM NPC NEX

Nex ran a scanner over the back of the painting. The source of the listening devices was multiple locations throughout the city. Three of them linked inside the city's hospital. One was on another planet entirely, boosted by Antropolis' communications transceiver.  One was somewhere else inside this very hotel. Others linked to other buildings.

He carefully began picking the bugs off the back of the painting. It took all of his self control to keep him from crushing them in his hands, but he knew better. Their destruction could precipitate an attack.

IC Shade -  Makuro's Quarters:

After all the listening devices had been compiled into a neat heap, Shade gestured for Nex to follow him out the backdoor so they could have a conversation (hopefully) without being overheard.

OOC: Is there any way for them to somehow set up Fakuro with the listening devices?  :)

OOC: I haven't forgotten about this RPG, I swear.

Updating Splint's profile with some sidearms and a triage kit.

Hero Profile:
Name: Jonathan Splint

Powers and Abilities: Optimized processors give Splint faster reaction time and the ability to make plans and decisions quickly. (Two minor slots) Super-dense energy cells let him run for much longer than other Heroes, and allow him to recharge a Hero about to run out. (one major slot)

His body contains generators for nanites. These are designed to repair mechanical systems, and can be transferred to others by touch. To make sure he always enough to heal others, the nanites will not repair Splint unless he is near death. (one major slot)

Weapon(s): His primary weapon is a rod of nanites. This can be shapeshifted into almost any simple tool, weapon, or object. While one of the most versatile tools ever created, it also has limitations compared to standard tools. It is somewhat weaker than the alloys modern tools are created from(although still plenty strong for most uses), and if it is exposed to extreme electrical, thermal, or magnetic forces, it will enter a "safe mode" and will be locked into its current form for around 30 minutes.

In the event that this happens, he has a small triage kit with most of the essential first-aid tools as a backup.

He also carries a strong stun pistol and three specialized flashbangs as sidearms. The flashbangs emit a pulse of infrared, radio, and sound waves in addition to visible light. This allows them to blind most alternative vision systems.

`
Appearance:
A hero of mostly average build and statue, except for being slightly slimmer than most. His teal and silver armor is incredibly sleek-looking, owing partially to the time he spends polishing it between missions. An emblem similar to the Star of Life (minus the rod) is on his shoulders.

Bio: Splint is a Hero built to be a medic. He travels to other planets as a first responder, arriving before the villains have been neutralized and the normal emergency teams can come in. He is also sent with Hero teams going on dangerous or long-range missions where medical support may not be able to arrive quickly enough. Splint's job means he has a good understanding of mechanical systems, and in his spare time he enjoys tinkering with objects. Most of the devices in his house have been modified or at disassembled by him at least once.

He dislikes any plan that involves unnecessary risks, and will attempt to try and find a safer solution if possible.

Other: Some clarifications - the nanites used in the rod are a different type than the ones Splint generates. If the rod is destroyed somehow, he can't replace it with the generated ones. The healing nanites also take a few minutes to work - they're not Wolverine-style instant healing, and they can't regrow limbs either(though they could reattach a severed one).

IC: Epix - Tait's Hotel (Mr. Makuro's Room)

Keeping up with the brisk movements of the other Heroes before watching them thoroughly begin to clear the room, Epix had chosen to position himself near the windows instead. peering through the glass as he started examining the nearby buildings for spots that could easily become potential sniper nests.

Being the head of the SIA did mean planning for all manner of attacks, after all.

GM NPC JAW BEASTS (2 - NEAR FLOOD)

The Jaw Beast that Furno had fired at earlier headed off to follow Flood as he swam toward the energy source.

GM NPC FURNO

Meanwhile, Furno fired at the other beast just before it would have bitten one of the pontoons in half.

GM IC WILBUR FLOOD

Wilbur Flood would find himself rapidly approaching an estuary. Here the river fed into the ocean...which was a good place for fish to find prey. But oddly enough, there was a hydroelectric turbine here, generating electricity and churning up the waters, making it an ideal place for no fish. Indeed, many dead fish corpses were on the turbine. This generated an electric field around the structure, making it difficult to destroy.

Whoever put it here was no innocent citizen. The turbine's purpose was simple enough - blatant and deadly aquatic destruction.

IC: Markus Vex - Tunnel.

"The mission was for me to explore these tunnels to figure out how the brains were getting to the beasts, and then trace them back to their origins. They had to have gotten onto this planet somehow, after all," he explained to Striker, "however, because of our guest, we've got to take a detour to help get him back to the city."

GM NPC NEX

Nex followed Shade out the backdoor of the suite, only to find himself out on the balcony. He wondered briefly if Shade was okay with the SIA agent overhearing their conversation through the window.

GM IC EPIX

In terms of potential sniper nests, this area was rather sniper friendly. Any one could hide in any of the five buildings around the dropship landing area and shoot at this balcony.

However, the door to said balcony was not made of glass. Perhaps simply advising Mr. Makuro against coming out here would be enough.

GM IC TRAFEROUS

Traferous made a wide swerve around the Streptos sun, killing the speed by employing a second set of engines he used as brakes. He also had compressed air brakes for emergencies, but he loathed using them, as compressed air was harder to come by than standard rocket fuel.

The ship rolled into position, coming to a smooth orbit around the planet. "Alright, Mr. Vyle, sir. I think a standard dropship will do for a diplomatic mission, don't you think? Security will be on high alert, given all the drama."

IC Shade - Makuro's Balcony:

Shade was slightly surprised to find Epix on the balcony, but knew that he was there for security purposes as well and didn't mind discussing the topic in his hearing. Maybe Epix would even have an idea for the bugs in the room. Shade asked Nex, "Do you think the bugs picked up the sounds of us turning the room upside down and inside out? If so, that might have alerted the entity behind their existence in the building to our knowing of their presence here. Also, what do we do with them? Anything that happens in that room is compromised. Unless we wanted to set up our actual temporary headquarters somewhere else and put on an act whenever we go into the recorded room to feed the bugs faulty information of course."

IC: Alex Drift - Tait's Hotel

Drift looked into the room and briefly admired the small heap of bugs on the floor. Somebody really wanted to know what was going on in here. There was just one thing he couldn't figure out about this situation though:

Mr. Makuro's escort consisted of an Alpha Hero, The Recall, what appeared to be an assassin,and... himself.

How did he fit in? Was their an escape ship he was supposed to pilot? Drift figured Mr. Makuro would be alright if he left his post for a few minutes, so he headed up to the roof to see if the Factory had provided him with a vehicle.

IC: Wilbur Flood - Estuary

That was simply awful. Hydroelectric turbines, when made by good, sensible people who did their research, were perfectly harmless to the environment and especially often had a means of keeping the wildlife out of its blades- often, there was a building around it, so workers could keep track of and repair the machines. Having it out in the open, where any matter of aquatic life could be sucked in, was dreadful. He frowned at the corpses- those would no doubt attract more wildlife, thus drawing more creatures in- and shook his head. He doubted this thing was meant for generating power efficiently- if not for its placement, there was also the fact that the dead creatures would gum up the machine in time.

"I don't think whoever made this had any kind of official approval," he muttered to himself.

He turned to look for brained creatures- and saw the Jaw Beast headed right for him. He drew his harpoon and kicked a little closer to the turbine- if possible, perhaps he could use the electric field to stun the beast long enough to get the brain off him.

OOC: Hitting the field won't kill larger creatures like Jaw Beasts, will it? I mean, since there's dead fish in the turbine, they had to get over there. Unless they were just pulled in after the fact.

OOC: Actually, the way I wrote Epix's last post implied that he was still indeed inside the room, just merely looking out a random window.

Why Fishers wrote that he was actually outside is beyond me, but for the purposes of interaction, I'd be okay with assuming he was just hanging out around the door leading to the balcony (which, thanks to Shade and Nex, is now open, though their conversation is either probably outside of the bugs' range of detection or at the very least masked by the ambient sounds outside) or wherever's most convenient, just so nobody needs to go back and waste any time editing.

IC: Epix - Tait's Hotel (Mr. Makuro's Room)

Stepping outside for a moment to check on the structural security of the door in question before going off to report to Mr. Makuro, he quickly proceeded to hold it partially shut after unintentionally stepping into the other Heroes' conversation.

"Probably, though whoever's attempting to listen in might just assume he had the furniture moved around, due to the possibility that he brought one of his smaller projects with him to work on in the meantime," he said, satisfied with it's integrity. "Moving Mr. Makuro, however, could be potentially problematic, as we'd be taking the risk of both putting him out in the open and giving ourselves away in the process, which would likely set us up to be blindsided by a more improvised and unexpected plan since we'd essentially be broadcasting that their original one failed."

Turning to face the duo, Epix leaned his head to the side as something in his peripheral vision caught his attention, only to raise his arm and point at it a moment later.

"But maybe we don't have to move Mr. Makuro at all. See the news monitor on that building? If we could generate enough feedback to cover the sound of them being moved, one of us could get over there and replace the bugs near the speakers. That way, whoever's trying to eavesdrop would think that he just left the television on, and the volume's drowning out all of the other sounds in the room."

OOC: I like this. All at once, Mr. Makuro's entire entourage leaves him alone in his room. At least there are bugs to hear him scream...

As for Epix, I really goofed up - there can't be an open window there, because that would allow the bugs to hear the conversation. Edited.

OOC: Hitting the field won't kill larger creatures like Jaw Beasts, will it? I mean, since there's dead fish in the turbine, they had to get over there. Unless they were just pulled in after the fact.

While he knew he should probably wait for a medical team, Shard had no plans to stick around. He'd been in that water twice today and just the sight of it made him shiver (and this is someone who's impervious to cold). Besides, waiting had never really been his style. "It's worth a shot. I suppose I'm going to be the one carrying all the bugs over there." Shade cloaked and turned on his sound dampeners as he headed back into the room and grabbed as many bugs as he could carry.

OOC: All right, a few questions: #1 Is Shade close enough to the building with the news monitor that he could safely jump from the balcony onto the building and then begin climbing up, or will he need to find another way there? #2 Does Shade need to make more than one trip? OOC: Your first question is probably best left to Fishers. As for the second, listening devices can sometimes be as small as the average quarter, so making additional trips seems unlikely.

Now I have a question; Out of curiosity, how do Shade's sound dampeners work? Because, while I'll admit there was some poor wording on my part and have since edited for clarity's sake, Epix's plan was actually to somehow generate enough radio interference (or feedback) around them so that the devices themselves wouldn't immediately start amplifying the sounds of the city and alert the people on the other end that they were being taken out of the room.

GM IC ALEX DRIFT

Parking a ship on a hotel roof was probably a bad idea...but if he looked to his left, he would notice a strange thing...the air looked like it was distorted, shimmering around something. Perhaps a cloaking device?

IC: Alex Drift - Tait's Hotel roof

Drift almost missed the shimmer.

Almost.

Being a pilot meant having to work with ships of all kinds and he was rather good at spotting cloak-fields by now. The only question was whether this field was hiding a Factory-owned ship or whether this was something else entirely. Drift gingerly poked at the distortion to get a feel for what was being hidden.

OOC: As to Dina's question: Yes, romance has been hinted at in this universe before, but I never really thought that robomance worked very well.

Or the dampeners calculate the sound frequencies within a Shade-sized field and generate the opposite frequencies thus nullifying the sound altogether. I suppose stopping the listening devices from hearing anything will have the same result as destroying them though come to think of it.

OOC: If the listening devices are so small, how is he gonna carry them over there without dropping any? It sounds like he's going to be carrying the equivalent of a bunch of coins over to a radio thing- and, if there's a bunch, he'll probably need two hands for it. Additionally, I'm assuming that that's going to make noise; in fact, moving them in the first place probably made noise, but I think someone mentioned that possibly being misconstrued for moving furniture around.

Oh, and as for the romance thing: in case anyone didn't know, there is absolutely romance referenced in the canon. In the radio podcast, Hero Factory: The Musical had a romance subplot about Breez pining for Furno. For some reason. In a later episode, the actual Breez clarifies she is not romantically interested in any of her teammates. So it's a thing that can happen.

OOC: They're sentient, and they can have friends, so I don't see what the issue is there. On your train of thought, why would you give super commando robots personalities, or feelings, or the emotional capability to have close friends?

That said, your preference is your preference, mate, and you don't have to have romance even remotely linked to any of your characters either way this turns out. So I guess my opinion is, since romance is a canon thing, you can have it as a thing for your characters or not. Kind of like the on and off robot food deal we have going.

ALSO: Can't believe I forgot, romance is already confirmed for the Hero Factory RPG. It was mentioned earlier that Nex is a flirt, which is definitely a romance thing. So Dina, yeah, romance is canon here.
