OOC: Oh Shard, why? When he hears about this he's going to become one of those annoying guilt-ridden characters you find in bad TV shows.  :P

IC: Echo - Hero Factory Hangar 44-B

Just as his message reached Mission Control, the small flickering readout on the terminal showed exactly what he had feared: the villain surged backwards through the glowing liquid remains of the door and fell into the shaft, followed closely by a rookie, one "Scarlett, Kathrine" as his database identified her. An operator from Control notified him that all exit points to the elevator shaft were being locked down, but...

What was that? No...

No, not like this.

Echo watched in stunned horror as a flash of light blazed through the doorway, the killer, cuffed and immobilized, was blasted through the molten opening... and the Hero behind him had her legs sliced off. Mission Control had been so occupied with his request to lock the doors, they hadn't had time to disengage the elevator. The tech sat back in the darkness and slumped heavily against a crate. Why had she done it? Why had she risked herself like that?

IC Flint [Outside the Elevator]:

The large Hero didn't know whether to feel impressed, worried, or both. This rookie had singlehandedly apprehended a being who had successfully evaded half-a-dozen experienced Heroes, and almost at the cost of her own life. Few of her fellow rookies would have done the same, at least in Flint's experience. Kathrine had undoubtedly won his respect today. "Nice work, small-fry," he said before Riot took off.

Turning his attention back to the energy being, Flint strode over and inspected Anamnesis like he was some kind of lab experiment. "Enemy neutralized," he informed Mission Control, to which Helen breathed a sigh of relief. Now all they had to do was find a way to get him down to the Villain Storage Facility.

IC Wolfe [Mechron City]:

Something told Wolfe that a bump on the head via rough landing was only the beginning of Quark's payback. "Maybe some other time," he told Thumper with a chuckle before stepping out onto the surface of Mechron. His first instinct was to take the lead, but considering what he had just pulled, that was last thing he should do. Indeed, it was probably best that he take up the rear with two other Heroes separating them.

IC: Quark Qrew - In Front Of Mechron Police Station, Soon To Be Divided

Quark had landed the ship far enough away to remain unseen by anyone within the police station, but it didn't take very long to get close. Quark turned to Quiver and Thumper. "All right, you two head to the front and wait for my signal to go inside. Quiver, I'll be contacting you over the communications systems to give the signal. Keep the line open in case the villain tries hiding. Thumper, remember, keep yourself and Quiver out of trouble."

"Yes, Quark," Thumper grinned. Under Quiver's guidance, both younger Heroes made it to the front of the building without being visible to anyone inside.

After watching them to make sure they got to the building safely, Quark glanced back to Wolfe. "Looks like you've run out of Heroes to hide behind. Don't fret; I plan to make us even on the return trip. I am sure they would be delighted to hear the story of Pollux VI."

IC: Night Stalker

As the last remains of the desk fell to pieces Night Stalker grabbed the shattered statue's mostly intact head and hurled it at another deputy.  The deputy dived to the side to avoid the head, ending up right in the path of a barrage of energy blasts, eliminating him.  3 down, two to go.  He fired another gas bomb at one of the last two as a distraction, then ran at the other one, shoulder first.  The deputy fired on him, hitting his upper arm several times, then tried to dodge out of the way.  Night Stalker swung out with his hammer, knocking the deputy clear across the room.  He immediately spun around, managing to block some of the shots from the last deputy with his hammer, although a few hit his back and side.

This one's leg had been damaged by the gas, yet he was still trying to escape through a doorway in the back.  He fired a few times at Night Stalker over his shoulder as he desperately hurried away.  Night Stalker made a show of trying to dive for cover, but when the deputy turned all the way towards the door he stood and hurled his hammer like a javelin, hitting the deputy square in the back, crushing him against the door which had almost been his escape.

As he retrieved his hammer night Stalker examined his armor.  He cursed as he noticed that his shoulder armor had been damaged enough that the chameleon effect would no longer work from his shoulder to his elbow.  Again he cursed as he heard sirens in the distance, approaching rapidly.  That would be the rest of the deputies.  Time to move.  Night Stalker ran to the back and went through the door to the back rooms.  He walked down the hallway he found, looking over rooms. clearly the others were out, maybe they had been helping at that conference.  He stops in his tracks.  The conference.  The one Mr. Makuhero, the leader of Hero Factory, was speaking at.  He swore again.  How could he not have assumed heroes would be coming as well?  They might all ready be on their way.  He began running down the hallway, eager to find what he was looking for.

Finally he found it.  The weapons locker.  Two blows from his hammer knocks the door down, and he emerges into a room stocked with weapons and ammo.  He straps several different pistols to himself, as well as several ammo belts and bandoleers.   He leaves, but not before firing a gas bomb into the room.  With luck, the weapons would explode.  With even more the explosion would catch the reinforcements, but the sirens were still too far away for that.  Oh well, at least the weapons would be gone, along with some of this place.

IC Kathrine:

You know, being carried was kind of a nice feeling.I didn't have to worry about getting anywhere, safely ferried to.... wherever I was being taken. I wasn't really sure, as I'd turned off all nonessential functions to conserve as much power as possible. Really, my only sense of feeling was through my gyroscopes. My vision, hearing, and speech were all shut down. Movement too.

Still, like I was saying, it was nice being carried like this. I could only assume that I was being taken to a medical area.

The veterans were probably gonna give me all kinds of flak for taking such unnecessary risks. I didn't care. I'd done my job. That was enough for me. And I'd caught my first criminal, to boot!

All in all, not a bad day. Aside from the being pretty close to dead thing, that is......

IC: Scourge- Mechron city

Four Heroes?! Why? There was no way he'd be able to steal a corpse now! Scourge only barely managed to stop itself from screaming in frustration. The heroes were becoming more like an army each day. Not that it was surprising. The idea that someone would spend billions to create a global "peacekeeping" organization, solely out of the goodness of their heart, was laughable. But now, the factory's true intent was becoming even more obvious. It couldn't possibly be much longer before planets begin distancing themselves from the organization... Right?

The thought of being deprived of yet another meal filled Scourge with unprecedented rage. Perhaps, it was time to become a little bolder itself...

After preparing it's ship for a quick getaway, Scourge began making it's way closer to the Police station, it's cloaking allowing it to go unseen.

IC: Mara Quiver and Eloise Thumper - In Front Of Mechron Police Station

"Hear anything yet?" Thumper asked quietly, glancing around. Quiver was as close to the front door as she could dare to be, listening.

"G-Groaning," she said. "I'm p-puh-picking up more than one v-voice. I th-think they're hurt."

"Can you hear a villain? Some cackling, maybe? Planning evil plots?"

"N-No." It was silent for a moment. "F-Footsteps. Heading away."

"We should let Quark know, so she doesn't have to smash the window."

Quiver froze, her shivering increasing to the point that she nearly fell. Thumper steadied her with a hand on her shoulder. "What's up?"

"B-B-Buh-Behind," Quiver whimpered.

Thumper turned back and squinted. She couldn't see anyone, but she knew better than to question Quiver's hearing. She said, "Call Quark. I'll cover you, all right?"

Thumper stood so Quiver was between her and the wall. Her gloves clanked into position, and she held them up in a defensive stance, waiting for a hint of movement.

IC: Dorothy Quark - With Wolfe, Circling Around

She was approaching the side of the building, wondering how to climb up onto the roof, when she received a call from Quiver. She answered immediately. "We aren't in position yet, Quiver."

"I-I-I-I-I-"

Quark frowned with concern. "Take a deep breath. I can't understand you when you're worked up."

She paused, and then whispered, "I can hear s-something c-c-coming from b-b-b-behind us..."

"The villain?" She gestured for Wolfe to follow her back towards the other Heroes.

"I d-don't know, I th-thought they were still inside!"

"All right, we're heading back. Good work, Quiver. Stay with Thumper. Quark out." She turned to Wolfe. "Sounds like the villain is trying to ambush the other two. Since it's pretty open out here, they must be cloaked. Are your sensors able to pick up cloaked criminals?"

~

IC: Eloise Thumper and Mara Quiver - Outside Mechron Police Station

Quiver fumbled with her rifle's strap until she had it clutched in her hands. Thumper shot a quick grin over her shoulder. "Hey, you heard someone moving in there, right? Maybe it's an officer, gone to get reinforcements. Can you still hear them?"

The footsteps had been too heavy for the standard police model, but Quiver wasn't very familiar with Mechron City's police force, so maybe they had larger models. She edged closer to the door, still with Thumper shielding her, and strained to hear where the footsteps had gone.

The following explosion made her yelp and clap her hands over her audial sensors. Thumper said, "Even I heard that. Guess we've got two villains to handle. I hope we cuff them both quickly, so we can help the officers inside."

Quiver rapidly reset her sensors to quell the ringing in her audial sensors. Once clear, she clutched her rifle tightly and hoped Quark would arrive quickly.

IC Wolfe [Mechron City Police Station]:

A smile had never before been wiped from Wolfe's face so quickly. He knew better than to object, however. The price of telling someone else's 'rookie days' story was the divulgence of one of your own. All veterans knew this.

He fell in line behind Quark now, bringing his attention back to the job at hand. They approached the building without incident, but from the sound of Quiver's subsequent call, the girls were not so lucky. "Should be able to," he answered Quark as he flipped his HUD's targeting system on. The device was sensitive enough to pick up on the slight distortion caused by a camouflage system, but there was no guarantee that it would remain locked on. It would be like trying to shoot with one's visor severely fogged up.

Wolfe nocked a standard arrow and ran for the front of the station. When he caught sight of the girls, he slowed to a stop and readied his bow, studying the surrounding area for any sign of the approaching villain...

It seemed that Makuro and his hero escorts were making preparations to flee the planet. The cowards had stirred up a hornet's nest, and were now preparing to run away and leave it for someone else to deal with the problem. Typical.

He started drifting towards the back of the crowd, to get a closer view... and possibly, a closer shot...

IC: Scourge- Mechron city

It was clear that the heroes knew Scourge was coming, but that probably couldn't be helped. It was simply too quiet to for background noise to completely mask it's steps. Whether they knew WHO it was, however, remained to be seen.

On that note, a loud explosion went off inside the police station, startling the two heroes and momentarily distracting them. Using this to it's advantage, Scourge quickly drew it's sedative gun and fired at the hero known as "Thumper", aiming for a certain spot that often went unarmored for mobility's sake. As it was firing from only a few meters away, the shot seemed unlikely to miss...

OOC: Hey guys, I'm going on a trip for a little while, starting today. I'll still be able to post, but likely with less frequency. I hope I don't slow this down too much!

IC: Eloise Thumper and Mara Quiver - Outside Police Station

Thumper, as most people could already guess, was a heavily-armoured build of Hero. Her plating allowed her very few gaps in her armour, and even those gaps had some level of protection to prevent shrapnel or stray laser fire from damaging her inner circuitry. Most people didn't bother aiming for them, since the target would be so small.

Facing away from the police station and watching for movement, she thought she saw something not quite match with the environment. She shifted to try and get a better look, just as something skimmed against her armour.

She spared it a moment's glance to establish it was some kind of weird shot. It had the distinct look of something that she didn't want to be hit by, and from where she felt it ping against her metal before falling on the ground, it had been aimed at her hip. She frowned, lowering her body more, exposing less gaps.

"I'm gonna need to know where this guy is," she murmured to Quiver. Quiver didn't say anything, still rattling in fear, so Thumper took the initiative and glared hard at where she had seen the disturbance, on guard. "We are Thumper and Quiver from Hero Factory. Stop shooting at us, or it is not going to end well for you. Trust me."

IC: Scourge- Mechron City

Slag! Scourge mentally berated itself as the hero spoke to it. It was out of practice. And it seemed that the hero it attacked was too heavily armored for the sedative gun to be of much use. Pherhaps the pathetic one behind her would be a more viable target?..

Scourge uncloaked, revealing it's frightening form to the two before it.

IC: Eloise Thumper and Mara Quiver - In Front of Station

Quiver was petrified with fear at the sight of the villain. Thumper, however, didn't seem that affected. "We're in the middle of arresting a villain inside, so we can't let you in there. And besides, you can't just eat someone's corpse. That's rude. What if their family wants to hold a funeral?"

She frowned. "And don't talk like that to us. You're not eating either of us, no matter how hungry you are. We really can't help you here. Can't you go to a diner or something? Buying food would be a lot easier and more legal."

IC: Scourge- Mechron City police station

Scourge was surprised that the hero in front of it seemed unafraid. Though to be fair, that was likely due to the fact that she didn't seem to know who it was, either. It was almost insulting. No matter. At least her partner knew a threat to her life when she saw one.

"Are... Are you new, or something? If you knew who I was, you'd realize that eating corpses is easily the most... considerate option I have. Just ask one of your buddies that's had a core in their chest for more than six months. They'll fill you in, and in grisly detail, I'm sure. Now, if you'll excuse me..."

Scourge extended the insectoid legs from it's back, causing it's ribs to visually move to accommodate. The legs bent around Scourge's torso to point forward towards the heroes, in an attempt to discourage attack.

IC: Night Stalker - Rear of Mechron Police Station

Night Stalker peeked out the back of the police station.  He saw no heroes or police with neither his eyes or his radar, although the sirens were almost here. He walked to the corner of the building and looked down the other side.  He saw two Heroes, and was about to turn around and go the other way when they took off towards the front of the station.  Perfect.  He ran a few blocks away in the direction of the spaceport where he was to meet up with Traferous, taking alleys and side roads to increase his chances of not being noticed before he wanted to be.

About two blocks away he came to an intersection, moderately busy, and looked around for something that would make a big explosion.  A grin spread across Night Stalker's face as his eyes fell upon the words "Caution!  Highly Flammable!" in big yellow letters on the side of a gas truck pulling up to a stop at the red light.  After making sure he would be shielded from the blast, he waited till the truck was in the middle of the intersection before squeezing off a few shots at it with one of the high powered energy pistols from the the police station.  The first shot hit the main nozzle, the second damaged it even further, and the third blew it off, igniting the gas inside.

The truck exploded into a huge fireball, red hot shrapnel flying everywhere and a huge tower of smoke rising into the sky.  Night Stalker waited for a moment before jumping out, pistol in one hand, hammer in the other.  He began shooting people, other vehicles, random things on the street, anything that would make noise and bring the Heroes and police running.  As he smashed in the front of a transport with his hammer, sending it hurtling through a store window, Night Stalker grinned.  This was one of the most enjoyable jobs he had ever taken.

IC: Splint - Hero Factory Infirmary

Splint had vowed to stay in the infirmary and guard it until the murderer was caught. If he wanted to kill people, tampering with the repair bays would be an excellent way to do it. Thankfully, it had been pretty quiet. A few Heroes had passed through, and a medical team had brought in a beat up rookie, who was now undergoing a quick post-repair diagnosis. Other than that, there had been almost no activity.

So when Riot burst in, it gave Splint quite the start. He jumped up and ran over to where he was setting a Hero down on a bed. The poor bot looked nearly dead, and her legs had been roughly cut off at the hip. It wasn't the worst injury he had ever seen, but it was up there. He immediately pulled a charging cable out of the wall above her bed and plugged it into her core. Two other medbots ran over to assist and started working on what was left of her legs while Splint examined the rest of her.

"What happened?" he asked Riot.

OOC: Vestak, I'm not entirely sure what's going down with Night Stalker. You said he's trying to get the attention of the Heroes, but he ran from them earlier. Is he trying to avoid them or get their attention? I'm a bit confused.

Oh, and two other things:

1. He would see two Heroes running off, not one. Both Quark and Wolfe are heading back.

2. Wasn't he heading back for the front entrance, last post? I got a little mixed up on that.

I won't respond to his post just yet, in any case. I'm guessing it takes time to move to where he is.

She paused, and then offered another, "Sorry. If there is a warrant out for your arrest, I'll have to take you in. If not, please move along. Eating dead people is frowned upon on this planet, I'm pretty sure. You'll have to go somewhere else, and do something that isn't illegal."

IC: Riot - Medical Bay

Backing up to let the doctors do their work, the Hero allowed himself to fall backwards onto a nearby chair as he attempted to catch his breath.

"We tracked the murderer down to one of the living areas before pursuing and engaging him in Hanger 44B. Long story short, he ended up giving us the slip, and when two of our group caught back up with him, we found her trying to incapacitate him before he tried to escape once again into an elevator shaft."

Leaning his shoulders up against the wall, he tilted his head upwards as he prepared to finish the rest of his story.

"The Rookie dove in after him, and succeeded in slapping a pair of cuffs on his wrists before tossing him back out into the hallway, all at the cost of some ###### taking her legs with them as they were enjoying their ride towards one of the upper floors. In other words, that Slag-Head's getting a one-way ticket to lockup, and she's the one you get to congratulate for making it happen, so you can start by making sure she lives long enough to hear it."

IC: Scourge- Mechron City Police station

Scourge was at a loss for words. How had this hero never heard of it? It was sure that by now, with the number of Heroes that it had killed, that they must have at least given a warning about it to the new rookies before sending them out. There was simply no explanation, unless...

"Has it really been that long?.."

Scourge muttered to itself, trying to think of exactly when it had last killed a hero. It didn't have a calendar or a clock in it's ship or anything, so there was no real way of telling. Was it possible that Hero Factory had simply forgotten about it?...

"I'll tell you what; Next time you and your pathetic friend are bored and don't feel like sleeping for the next few subsequent nights, go into the list of villains that Hero Factory probably has, and look up someone called "Scourge of the Galaxy". I'll kill you some other time, when you're appropriately horrified by me."

Defeated, Scourge cloaked itself and stalked off back to it's ship. It wasn't worth the trouble killing something that wasn't pleading for their life, or at the very least, aware of the reputation it thought it had built up. Not that it was equipped to fight someone so heavily armored in the first place. That was another problem.

IC Wolfe [Mechron City Police Station]:

Wolfe stood just out of sight as Thumper and the now-uncloaked villain spoke, and it wasn't until the walking skeleton had reached its ship that he dared lower his bow. He started to ask the girls if they were all right when something exploded a ways off. Knowing their luck, it was probably another villain. "Thumper, Quiver, you two check on the officers inside while Quark and I see what that was about," he said quickly, forgetting that he wasn't in charge here. "Meet us as soon as you're done."

And with that, he made a dash for the smoking wreckage of the fuel tanker.

The last time he'd accompanied a hero team to a city that was full of emergency transmissions, he'd wound up getting repeatedly shot at and exploded attempting to bring down a whole slew of villains and their horde of mercs and drones, all of whom wound up being cuffed by other heroes in the end.

But a mission was a mission, and he had a job to do.

He soon reached the top of the tower, clambering into a hero pod and rocketing from the factory. "This is Saracen Rune, en-route to Mechron City," he tried making contact with the heroes on-site as he flew, stars and planets flashing by in a blur as the pod accelerated well beyond the speed of light towards its destination. "Requesting status update on the present situation?"

OOC: Both.  He doesn't want to fight them head on, because he knows that against at least two heroes and half of Mechron's police force he wouldn't win, but he still needs to keep them distracted.

1. When I posted I'm pretty sure Quark had yet to run off.  I can change it though.

2. No, he wasn't doing that.  He was always heading for the back, sorry if it was confusing.

IC: Cobra Shard - Hero Factory Medical Wing

Shard heard a door open and lots of doctors hurrying around in the adjacent room. What was going on? He walked over to the doorway and poked his head around the corner. It looked like some poor Hero had had his legs torn off and nearly run out of Quaza charge in the process. What a moron- wait... NO!

It was Kathrine Scarlett, the rookie who'd revived him on Streptos II. "No no no, this is all my fault," he whispered to himself. If he hadn't been so stupid and gotten himself brained, she wouldn't have had to donate charge to him. She would've been at full power.

He was to blame for this.

OOC: @Vestak: Ah, yeah. Quark was implied to be running with Wolfe, I think. It's fair enough to be mixed up about that. And cool, thanks for clearing that up for me! :D

IC: Eloise Thumper, Mara Quiver and Dorothy Quark - Outside Police Station

Thumper absently waved at where the being had disappeared and offhandedly said to Quiver, "I guess they didn't have a warrant out for them after all. Must be from one of those places that allow dead body eating. I hope I didn't hurt their feelings."

Relieved, Quiver took Thumper's arm in her hands for comfort until her shaking subsided. It was then that Wolfe and Quark approached, Quark with her blaster still leveled after the being. The being was lucky that they had not made any threatening moves, or Quark would not have been as forgiving. She approached them quickly. "Girls! Are you all right? If they hurt you-"

"No, we're all right!" Thumper grinned brightly. "That guy just gave us a bit of a startle, that's all, and I think they were trying to spook us. They kept talking about being very fearsome. I told them if they had a warrant out for their arrest, I had to take them in, but otherwise they had to leave. So they left."

Before Quark could explain the concept of someone lying to get out of an arrest, there was an explosion somewhere in the distance. Before she could issue her orders, Wolfe gave his own. Quark shot him an annoyed look, but allowed it.

"As Wolfe said," she said stiffly. "But remember: if there's more trouble, call me immediately."

She raced after Wolfe as Quiver and Thumper entered the police station. They set about tending to the police officers within using triages kept in the station; while Thumper was poor at repair work, Quiver had steady hands and some greater skill in the basic field repairs taught to Heroes.

Thumper received a call from a Hero named Rune; she remembered him from the last mission. She greeted him, "This is Thumper, on-site. Me and Quiver are helping repair injured police officers. Well, Quiver's doing most of it, she's really good at it. My team leader and her friend are investigating an explosion, I think it's a villain causing it but I'm not sure."

OOC: I assume Heroes are taught some basic robot first aid.

IC: Saracen Rune - Hero Pod.

"Good to know," he checked the cockpit display, "I'm still a few minutes out, but it sounds like you guys already have the situation pretty much handled. Good news, though, someone caught that killer who was loose in HQ."

IC Kathrine:

As power started flowing back into me, I slowly turned on my senses again.

I opened my eyes and took a look around the room. Shard was there. Riot was there. A hero called Splint was also there.

"I laid my head back with a slight grin.

"So..... I get a promotion for this, right?"

IC: Scourge- Mechron city

Truthfully, lack of recognition had only played a small part in Scourge's retreat. Slag, if a hero didn't know of it's reputation, it would make sure they found out, quickly. Whether they survived to tell others of it's escapades depended entirely on how good they were at dodging flying sedative capsules. No, the main reason it left was due to it getting the uncanny feeling that it was being watched. And it seems that it was correct, as the moment it turned around, it heard two new voices. Now, Scourge could take down two heroes at once on a good day, but four was out of the question. Now, it was not time to escape, but time to wait for a better opportunity...

IC: Eloise Thumper and Mara Quiver - Police Station

"Oh, that's good!" Thumper smiled. "That's very good. Yeah, the situation here in the police station is wrapping up, but we could still use some help patching up people. Or, if you'd like, you could try my team leader, Quark? She and Wolfe are headed somewhere exciting, and if it is a villain, they might need help. Besides, I'm sure the other police officers will be along soon to help us here."

Quiver kept nervously glancing at the door, so Thumper made sure to follow her around close enough to provide peace of mind. She said, "I could try hailing Quark for coordinates, or I could give you mine. Which would you prefer?"

IC: Saracen Rune - Hero Pod.

"Medical and repair aren't really my areas of expertise," he admitted, patting his rifle beside him, "But I'm pretty sure this pod's got standard supplies on board, if you need any of it." The pod rattled as it began to pass through the planet's atmosphere, "If you need me to, I could bring the pod in where you guys are, then rendezvous with your teammates?"

IC: Scourge- Mechron city Police station

It appeared to be Scourge's lucky day. Two of the heroes had left the scene, and the pair it had conversed with earlier had went into the police station. Deciding to abstain from attacking for a short while in order to lull them into a false sense of security, Scourge exited it's ship, and deployed it's insectoid legs, using them to scale the wall of the police station, all while cloaked. Once on the roof, Scourge looked to see if it could cut the power or communication lines from it's position.

IC: Eloise Thumper and Mara Quiver

A few officers had arrived and were assisting Quiver with repairs by this point. Thumper said, "Thanks, that sounds great! I think it's probably better to have too many supplies than too little. I'll hail Quark now for coordinates."

It took a little mental fumbling, but she managed to send the request with the Hero still on the line. The reply indicated she wasn't there yet. Thumper said to him, "Well, she hasn't found the villain yet, but if you get here before she finds them I can show you which way she went. Quiver might even know how far away the explosion that they were running after was!"

IC: Saracen Rune - Hero Pod.

"Making my approach," he responded to Thumper as his pod began to spiral downwards towards the police station, "And...." the pod made landfall, skidding across the ground and slamming roughly into the station's exterior wall, "....ouch."

He'd never been much good at piloting regular vehicles. "Any landing you can walk away from's a good one," he muttered to himself, wrenching open the battered hatch and clambering out.
