And my main guy (someone beat me to a hacker =/ ):

Name: Echo

Powers and Abilities: Echo's main role is as a hacker/infiltration specialist and he always carries a few of his favorite flash-drives (loaded with viruses and back-door programs) with him everywhere he goes. He is equipped with echolocation radar which allows him to map out compounds and other areas very quickly, but he can only use it while focusing (so he can't move, attack, etc.) while scanning. He wears light armor and sound dampeners which classifies him as a stealth Hero, even though he isn't equipped with a cloaking device. This means he can't take too many hits in a fight.

Weapons: Echo has a penchant for messy close-ranged melee weapons (chain-saws, serrated talons, etc.), often replacing entire arms. His weapons vary between missions. He's also outfitted with short-ranged concussion blasters that make use of surrounding sound waves for ammo. Oh yeah, and a pair of cuffs and a limited medical kit, of course.

Bio: Echo is a very useful team member to have owing to the fact that he's mostly memorized the entire Hero Factory database, or at least, the unrestricted parts of it. Unfortunately, he doesn't really talk much and keeps to himself, so his wisdom often goes unheard.

Was going to join Corpus Rahkshi but 600 pages seems a little... late to just jump in. =/

Ah, sorry for not being more specific. Echo has a buzz-saw replacing his right forearm at the moment (as shown in the video). Also, he has no technopathy. Just good old-fashioned hacking skills.

With this in mind, Echo approved. Editing what you just said into the profile for clarification would be appreciated, though. :)

And welcome - feel free to write your characters in IC.

IC: Fred Stinger-Street

Stinger had recently landed and was running through the streets, trying to find his way to the fight.  Following his way by the sound of explosions and such he was coming up on the Hospital when he spotted (Sarcane Rune).  "What is the situation?"  Stinger already had his shield and a wrist-blaster ready.

IC: Saracen Rune - Outside Hospital Foyer.

Shouldering his rifle and picking up a jagged chunk of rebar from the rubble, Saracen looked up at the sound of another voice, "We captured an enemy leader; they sent a merc to get him back." He tugged a piece of shrapnel out of his shoulder plate, "Guy seems really fond of blowing stuff up, and doesn't care much about collateral damage."

OOC: This might sound like a weird question, but what would you say is the approximate height and weight of the average hero?

IC: Arsenal

Success! Arsenal coldly laughed under his cracked helmet as his opponent was sent flying out of the building and into the street. With the other heroes pinned down, he quickly made his way over to the desk, and lifted the prone form of Karter over his shoulder. Never ceasing his barrage of gunfire, the mercenary made his way back to the elevator. Momentarily dropping Karter onto the elevator floor, he pressed the button to take him to the roof. As the doors closed, one final goodbye present for the heroes was thrown through the ever-shrinking gap: a grenade.

OOC: Uh, post nulled due to the fact that Jimmy Abacus, Ghid Squid, and Daxer Phyrus are still in the area. You can have him walk over to pick up Karter, but you really need to give Daxer a chance to respond before auto-carrying him to the exit.

Please edit before continuing.

GM NPC ROBOTS AND CITIZENS (NEAR STRIKER)

The robot Striker was using was torn to ribbons by its fellows' weaponry.

The citizens shrunk away from the battle, trying to stay out of the line of fire. The one kneeling over Stringer resumed his work, with several of the attack robots between him and Striker.

Meanwhile, the energy slugs tore through some attack robot arms and legs. One hit the anti-quaza behind them, causing a minor concussion blast that wiped out a few of them. This caused some of the robots to shrink away from the substance and to push Bulk further along the tunnel, trying to get him past Striker and out of there.

I edited.

IC: Daxer Phyrus

Location: Hospital Foyer

It seemed that the villain hadn't learnt from previously. The hail of bullets barraged Daxer, giving him more and more and more kinetic energy as he stood in front of Jimmy, catching the bullets before they hit the currently pre-occupied hacker hero. And then, as Arsenal's bullet hail moved away from Jimmy, Daxer sprinted at many times the speed of a bullet, this time taking out his short sword to deliver a deadly blow to the villain's head, one that would be quite improbable to dodge due to Daxer's imperceptible speed.

IC: Arsenal

Arsenal had hoped that spreading out the gunfire would have prevented Daxer from gaining enough kinetic energy to do anything major. Alas, he was proven wrong when the hero charged foreword, bringing his sword down onto Arsenal's head. His helmet, already damaged from the earlier punch, split in two, both sides clattering to the floor. Frowning, Arsenal pulled Karter's unconscious form off of his shoulder, and positioned him in between himself and the hero, using him as a living shield. In his eyes, this was not an act of cowardice, but merely taking advantage of the hero's moral code. He was sure that they wouldn't risk killing an unarmed being just to take him down. Now, for Daxer. Activating his buzz saw, the mercenary swung the deadly blade upwards, aiming for Daxer's arm.

IC Ghid Squidulus

With the shield suffering several inward dents, and now being at close range, Ghid immediately transformed into Arsenal and roared, swinging the shield at his arm, blade first.

Of course, it was a three-year-old-with-a-nail-in-his-foot roar, but it counted.

IC: Arsenal- Hospital Foyer

Hearing a pathetic sounding roar, Arsenal looked to the side to see... Himself? How? Wait... That shield... It was one of the heroes! Unfortunately for Ghid, his roar telegraphed the attack in time for Arsenal to avoid being maimed, instead allowing the blade to scrape down the length of his gauntlet, creating a long, deep gouge. Trying to disable the hero as quickly as possible, Arsenal aimed his rocket launcher at his doppelgänger's face, and pulled the trigger.

Unfortunately for Ghid, by transforming into Arsenal, he also took on his Poor mobility, as well.

OOC: Unless I'm mistaken, the transformation is done via holographic projector, meaning he only looks like Arsenal. Ghid's still the same physically.

IC:

He flew past where Simon had been, rocketing into and melting the wall of a nearby building. Inside he reformed, taking a glance out at the soaring Hero.

Cool down, cool down, cool down...

There were more important goals here, greater things at stake than his pride, his humiliation, his urge to KILL. Turning away from the building's newest window, he began finding his way to the ground floor and probable exits.

OOC: This might sound like a weird question, but what would you say is the approximate height and weight of the average hero?

Erm, 175 - 200 pounds - we're talking metal robots that are pretty heavy.

Ones with heavy armor like Dane would obviously run like 300, and ones that are designed for speed, agility, or are just scrawny would be more like 100-125.

OOC: That's a huge underestimate. A roughly human sized robot is gonna be in excess of 450-500lbs easy.

I shall bow to your superior wisdom.

Although I believe the question was meant to inform whether Sarcen could lift Fred, which is a moot point - his injuries would likely make that a no, since he has a busted shoulder. I don't care what universe we're in, to lift some thing close to my own weight, I need two arms.

IC: Echo - Tranquis VII, low orbit

Echo sat in the cargo bay, surrounded by the low, pulsing throb of the engines as the dropship descended into the upper atmosphere of the planet.

"Why do we always get the boring jobs," groaned the pilot. "Extraction? Really?!" We finally get an assignment and we're running extraction?" Echo let him talk. "Hey, buddy, time for launch." Echo nodded and made his way to the Hero pod in the rear of the craft, enjoying the slight hiss as the hatch slid open. "Remember the orders: get in, find any injured heroes and captured villains, and get them to the evac point."

Another silent nod. The hatch slid closed and the interior lights switched on.

Name: Night Stalker

Affiliation: Villain

Appearance: Black armor with hints of red, 1.5 times the height of a hero.  His helmet resembles the Fire Lord's, but without the flames.

Weapons: Force Hammer - A large war hammer that amplifies the force of its impact.

Tri-Blaster - This blaster is built around Night Stalker's left arm, yet he still has a left hand.  The Tri-Blaster can fire standard forms of ammunition, but Night Stalker most often loads it with capsules filled with a mildly corrosive gas.  His armor has been modified to be almost completely resistant to the gas, but long enough exposure will damage even him.

Abilities: Night Stalker has radar built into his helmet, and it wars him of approaching objects.

His armor also has a chameleon function.  He can change color at will, or set it to automatic, although auto is considerably less effective.

He is very strong, which makes his hammer even more dangerous.  However, he has very bad reflexes, instead counting on his armor and strength to get him out of most situations.

Personality: Night Stalker is ambitious and intelligent.  He will do whatever he can to get to the top, but will not directly attack anyone in his way unless he knows he can get away with it completely, without even the slightest trace that he was involved.

OOC: Nah. I'm actually trying to calculate what Saracen's terminal velocity - AKA his maximum speed when using his flight power - would be. I was originally planning to just use the human terminal velocity, but realised that heroes would likely be a fair bit bigger and heavier, making that an inaccurate estimate to be working off of.

Not entirely sure why Smudge thought I was wanting to lift Fred...

IC: Daxer Phyrus

Location: Hospital Foyer

Daxer had managed to avoid the buzzsaw, and he took a few speedy steps back, but then used his still extremely high kinetic energy reserves to make a strike at twice the speed of a bullet, aiming to cut Arsenal's leg clean off. Considering its speed, it was doubtful it would be avoided, or that it would not succeed.

OOC: I don't think having the ability to strike/act so quickly is anywhere near fair. The GM should take a closer look at Daxer's powers and decide on some sort of limitations for them, otherwise they're ripe for abuse and it's pretty clear that Onaku knows this judging by skype comments...

OOC: While we're talking about speed, I used Tiragath's estimate of 500 lbs and did some maths, calculating Saracen's terminal velocity to be 70.3343 metres per second, which rounds to 252 kilometres per hour.

Compared to Daxer, who can apparently move at several times the speed of bullets (for context, the average speed of a bullet is 3600 kilometres per hour), that's pathetically slow, but still... I think I'll wait for GM approval before having Saracen use his top speed.

The streets were silent, eerily so. Explosions and gunfire echoed in the distance, but there was nothing to be heard anywhere near him. Welcoming the relative calm, he slunk into a nearby building and curled up to rest.

POST NULLED. This breaks the auto-hitting rule, and as such is not allowed.

Also, we just established that Heroes weigh 400 pounds in operation. A bullet does not weigh anywhere near that much, so absorbing the kinetic energy of a few bullets would not allow a Hero to move anywhere close to that speed, much less several times that speed.

Speed increases using this power are allowed, as that is how the power is defined. However, I expect that it should be used in a way that is reasonable with the laws of physics and courteous to your fellow players.

Let us be clear: we are in a sci-fi universe for this RPG. This means that we are, unless dealing with semi-fantastic stuff like quaza and anti-quaza, operating under a reasonable application of real-world physics.

I do not, however, expect everyone to calculate numbers and do complex math to defend their RPG posts. You shouldn't need a physics textbook to play this game! Geez louise. Use common sense.

OOC: While we're talking about speed, I used Tiragath's estimate of 500 lbs and did some maths, calculating Saracen's terminal velocity to be 70.3343 metres per second, which rounds to 252 kilometres per hour.

I'm not sure how terminal velocity applies here. I understand that Sarcen has gravity generators which he uses to fly, but you're suggesting that he can generate a force equal to that of a whole planet to reach terminal velocity?

I guess if he were falling at a speed close to that he could stop his fall using his flight power, that would be reasonable. I see where you get the argument.

But I don't think I can allow it, because Sarcen really doesn't have speed powers. I also am stupid American and am used to seeing my speeds in miles per hour, so I really don't know how fast that is. I think that is close to 140 MPH, which is how fast a small car can go, which is overkill.

OOC: His devices actually manipulate gravity, they don't generate it. And I did state in his original profile that his maximum speed was limited to his body's own terminal velocity - since logically that's how fast gravity alone would be able to propel him:

Powers and Abilities: Special gravity-manipulating capacitors built directly into his armour allow him to fly and hover near silently. Maximum movement speed using these is limited to his body’s own terminal velocity. As such, his armour has been reinforced to withstand these increased speed and pressures, making him more durable than the average hero.

Terminal velocity is the maximum possible speed an object can fall at, and since Saracen's ability basically just allows him to manipulate gravity in order to fall in whatever direction he wants, it seemed reasonable that he would be able to gradually accelerate to those kinds of speeds. It wouldn't be instantaneous or anything: a human takes around 15-20 seconds to reach terminal velocity while in freefall, for example.

In regards to Daxer, you said:

Speed increases using this power are allowed, as that is how the power is defined.

Likewise, the potential for reaching terminal velocity was quite clearly outlined in Saracen's profile, and although I admit I did make a mistake in not taking the time to perform the necessary calculations to determine exactly how fast that would be until now, it seems a little unfair to deny Saracen's speed this long after it was approved, especially given that there are still characters like Daxer who can potentially move a heck of a lot faster.

That said, you're the GM, and if you still disagree, I guess there's not much I can do about it.

OOC: Blast. Echo isn't built for that kind of combat. I'll see what he can do for Rocka, then.

IC: Echo - Directly over the Sunny Square

Echo had never been particularly fond of Hero pods. Even though he knew it was perfectly safe, he'd never enjoyed the experience of hurtling towards the ground at breakneck speed in nothing but a metal cylinder with a couple of thrusters and fins at the back. Moving past his discomfort, he ran a quick check of his landing site and found it full of people, Heroes or Villains he couldn't tell. He grimaced and switched his pod into landing mode.

As much as he hated flying these things, he hated crashing them more.

With a jarring thud, he was on the ground. He switched off the power and slid the hatch open to find himself faced with a rather tricky situation:

A rather mangled golden Hero lay on the ground (a quick analysis revealed him to be Alpha Team's Rocka) between two enormous creatures and a couple other Heroes. Echo's orders were to move all injured personnel or captives to an extraction point and wait for the emergency evacuation ship to arrive. He just needed to get to Rocka...

Alright, fair enough. I approved it, so it stands. You may use the power as you see fit to do so.

I did check his profile, and a limited speed power would not disrupt his power balance, since all he has otherwise is flight (main) and some modifications (additional durability and silence as minor abilities). It just struck me as a surprise - I didn't know his terminal velocity was that high.

Put this on the record: fishers64 hates surprises.

For the record, I did run the conversion between km/hr and miles per hour: for all those not Of Australian Origin, the terminal velocity is 157 MPH.

GM IC GADGET

This time, the hallway was deserted. The doors were unlocked, but it seemed that nobody had gotten into the hallways yet.

Zib's terminal was straight ahead, and it appeared to be a level below where he was, down a set of stairs. This place was only two levels deep, it seemed, with the scientific and research areas on one side and a huge construction operation on the other.

GM NPC EVIL BRAINS (NEAR MR. VYLE)

It appeared that the brains had finished their work, and one of them tapped on the structure. "Ship done." One of them said, signaling to Mr. Vyle.

The brains flickered the makeshift control panel to life. It wasn't the finest craft the galaxy would ever behold, but it might do.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

SHIP PROFILE: UNNAMED BRAIN-BUILT CRAFT

Ship Size: Small (large enough for one or two pilots: the size of a Hero Dropship)

Pilots (these are PCs onboard): Mr. Vyle

NPCs onboard (if applicable): About 70 evil brains, capable of piloting the ship and making limited modifications to the craft if needed.

Communications Systems: The ship has the communication capabilities of a standard hero pod, meaning that it can contact Hero Factory. The brains have modified some of the communications equipment to read standard shipping channels and contact their "master", but these only have a limited range.

Weapons Systems: The ship is dotted with about 20 glycerin "cannons" that can fire energy pulse blasts. These are a considerable drain on the ship's power supply.

Propulsion Systems: This ship has several thrusters at its aft from several Hero Pods, and enough of the power supplies from these pods to make the distance back to Hero Factory...or something a similar distance away. That is, assuming minimal use of the weapons systems.

OOC: Soon, other players will get nice things too. :P Or, if you prefer, Mr. Vyle is the unfortunate guinea pig for these ship profiles.

OOC: For some reason, I have a really bad feeling about this...

IC: Mr Vyle.

"Then I think it's time for us to get off this rock," he declared, clambering aboard. For a bunch of small, creepy-looking critters that possessed only rudimentary appendages, the brains had done an commendable job of constructing the ship.

It looked impressive, at the very least. He just hoped it didn't wind up exploding mid-flight.

IC: Arsenal- Hospital Foyer

A hologram?! Arsenal had no time to register what had happened before he felt cold steel penetrate his elbow joint. The blow tore through the wires in the affected arm, leaving it completely useless from the elbow down. No, no, NO! He couldn't be captured now! With the numerous crimes he had committed, including the killing of Heroes, a death sentence would surely be his fate! Looking up, Arsenal saw where his rocket had struck the ceiling. After taking the missile and several hundred machine gun rounds, it was in pretty sorry shape. As chips of concrete began to fall, the mercenary got an idea. Momentarily pushing both attackers back, Arsenal fired two more rockets towards the crumbling ceiling, causing more and more concrete to fall. And along with the chunks, came the dust. The room had begun to get cloudy with concrete particles even before he had made his second rescue attempt, but now he couldn't even see the entrance from his position. Or anything more than two feet in front of him, for that matter. having been pushed up against the wall during the fight, Arsenal felt his way back to the elevator, dragging Karter behind him. As he entered the somewhat cramped metal box, Arsenal fumbled around looking for the elevator buttons, which had been hidden by the dust cloud...

GM NPC EVIL BRAINS (W/MR. VYLE)

The evil brains closed the door behind the businessman. "Take control?" one of them asked, gesturing to the pilot seat. "Or do you want us to fly?"

The panel in front of him had a simple control yoke for steering and altitude and a couple of hand throttles. The brain creatures were not, as it were, accustomed to foot pedals.

GM IC GADGET

A full monitoring screen opened up before easily, and his technopathy would tell him how to bypass all of the security protocols on this machine. The monitoring screen indicated that Bulk and Stringer had escaped, that a group of citizens had found and recaptured them, and that Karter, an operations commander, had been captured and now was in the hands of a mercenary hired for a considerable amount to rescue him. (OOC: I forget if there was a HF currency established somewhere: AFAIK there wasn't, I guess we may have to make up our own.)

Of great importance, and more immediate attention, was the Project Sunstrom icon which indicated that construction was on schedule and that the launch was to happen in 30 hours from the current time. There was a to-do list with checkboxes for tasks completed, and a way to enter a new task or to signify it as done.

Digging deeper into the system, he would find that the former purpose of the project was to research solar flares and how to prevent them, but now it was to redirect the power of those flares to use them as a weapon to protect Tranquis. Oddly enough, some targets for the weapon had already been entered. One looked like an oddly non-descript moon with rocks floating around it, a few prison planetoids, and...

Hero Factory. Yep, this was definitely a questionable operation.
