And so, Var jumped out, aiming their fall at a certain red-and-black clad villain holding a blaster, who also seemed to have lost a considerable chunk of his arm. Var drew their lightsaber, lit it, and aimed their strike to pierce the villain with their fall.

Satisfied, Gorn followed his newfound ally. He jumped out of the ship, allowing himself to fall through the air, about to ruin some unlucky villain's day. He found himself falling towards the one with armor colors similar to his own, preoccupied with firing at the invisible Hero/possible ghost. Grinning under his helmet, he ignited his blade as he closed in for the kill.

Suddenly finding himself in a patch of shadow, Vyle glanced up to see a gunship approaching overhead, two figures wielding glowing swords leaping from its troop bay, one of whom descended straight towards him. 

 

As he swiftly backpedaled away, he couldn't help but chuckle at their stupidity. Jumping out of a ship without any means of slowing one's descent or changing direction in midair was a foolish tactic, as was choosing to target a person who happened to be standing right on the edge of an unstable precipice. If they somehow managed to avoid breaking their legs and/or toppling straight into the crater when they landed, they'd be open and vulnerable to Vyle's line of fire.

OOC: Oh? You probably ought to have been a little more specific then, since both Vyle and Night Stalker share a similar colourscheme to Gorn, and both were firing at Captor. Given that Var and Gorn both jumped in quick succession, and that Night Stalker is (presumably) on the complete opposite side of the giant crater to where Vyle is, I kind of assumed both of you were attacking the same guy.

OOC: It depends on which side of the crater Vyle ran up.  Night Stalker is nearish Traeferous, Dr. Lie, and that group.

His radar pinged a warning, indicating that something was coming at him from...above?  Moron.  He wouldn't be able to dodge.  Night Stalker ceased firing on Captor for a moment, replacing the almost empty energy blast magazine with a fresh one as he did so, and opened fire on the falling figure.

How his target had noticed him, Gorn had no idea. What he did know, however, was that now there were several energy blasts headed his way. Dodging the shots in midair would be difficult, if not impossible. Blocking them would be significantly less so. Gorn's shield protected him from most of the blasts, which had the unintended side effect of pushing him backwards, slightly slowing his fall. Others missed entirely, due to his rapidly changing position. Deactivating his sword, he landed several meters away from Night Stalker, rolling as he hit the ground. He quickly raised his shield into a defensive position, before beginning to advance on the villain.

IC: Cobra Shard - The Astral

Shard gratefully climbed aboard the Astral and closed the hatch behind him. He didn't advance father into the ship however, deciding instead to man the door in case any other Heroes came knocking.

 

IC: Marrow - Brawling

Marrow swung its evil knife hands in a wide arc to try and slice the invisible Hero in half. Unfortunately for Captor, the attack was aimed at where the midsection of a normal Hero would be so it was more likely to decapitate him if it hit.

GM IC FRAVI

 

Fravi pulled the cargo ship off the ground a little, then revved its engines loudly as she pulled the hangar bay and the bridge onto the beach, almost. The bridge was still partway submerged, and the hangar bay was only partly on the beach. Still, that left all of the ships in the bay accessible for shelter and battle.

SHIP PROFILE: The Needlepoint
 
Ship Size: Very small, can only carry one passenger. The ship is basically a long needle-like tube protruding from a larger area that contains a cockpit for one and engines. 
 
Pilots (these are PCs onboard): Fravi.
 
NPCs onboard (if applicable): None
 
Communications Systems: Fravi has access to most civilian comm frequencies. She has access to Traferous' frequency, Hero Factory, and one conspiracy one should she have the time to program them in, which she hasn't had time to do yet. 
 
Navigation and Drive: The ship's drive is incredibly simple - a pair of foot pedals for acceleration and brake, and a steering wheel. There is a minimum of computer systems on board, because there is no time for distractions piloting this ship. There is one star map screen and comm device, and that's it. 
 
Weapons Systems/Armor: This ship has very little armor. The craft is built to withstand high-speed travel in atmospheric conditions, which means that it is made of carbon fiber and is very lightweight. There are two lasers near the pilots' chair that have very poor aim - the ship must be pointing right at what it is firing at for them to be any good, which basically is a huge telegraph. The end of the ship is sturdy and sharp enough to ram into hulls with enough give in them, but the most basic of armor will make it bounce off. 
 
Propulsion Systems: There are two engines in the back of the vessel. This ship is extremely fast and agile, capable of incredible midair acrobatics - and is incredibly dangerous to pilot if you don't know how to do so. Still, this ship is very hard to hit while in the air, as long as it has enough fuel in its admittedly not-quite-good-enough reserve. 
 
Land vs. Dock (Atmospheric): Land it can, easily.

Where the Hero Factory assembly tower once stood, there was a heap of Hero parts - arms and legs and chest plates, mixed in with robotic arms and remnants of tower machinery.

"Right now, this dropship is our only ticket off this planet for ALL of us," said Furno. "So I suggest you help Flood finish the turbines so we can get out of here, okay? We're still alive - we just have to go meet up with the others. Now get to it."

Var's tactic wasn't actually as stupid as one would think. Just before they made impact with the ground, they slowed themselves down with the force, making heavy, but non-injuring impact with the ground before bringing up their lightsaber in preparation for the villain shooting at them.

Captor ducked under Marrow's attack before taking a sharp turn and leaping at the villain's back, intending to claw at him with his front leg talons.

Taking advantage of the precarious terrain, Vyle fired off a volley of blasts at the ground beneath his new attacker's feet, aiming to destroy their feet and/or drive them backwards into the crater.

Var made a massive leap as Vyle fired at the ground, closing the gap between them and their attacker, and striking at the villain with their lightsaber.

He weaved to the side, ducking under the swing and turning to open fire on the swordsman's exposed back as he passed.

IC: Ken Render - Near Assembly Tower

 

He sorted through the mess quickly. He at least wanted to get matching pieces for a build type. He found enough parts for a heavy-build Hero and set them aside, along with some of Thumper's casings that he found. With the way his younger teammate barged into the fray, the Assembly Tower Team learned to keep spares of her armour handy, just in case.

 

He lugged it all back, armful by armful. "Hope y' don't mind big ol' eye-catchin' colour schemes, pardner."

IC: Wilbur Flood - Underground

 

There wasn't much he could do about the turbine still in the water, so he just continued to fetch pieces of the broken turbine and leave them at the bottom of the ladder. He was relieved to hear his team was all right, but what of everyone else? And his home... even if it wasn't underwater, the Hero Factory felt like home to him. Where were they to stay now?

 

He shook his head as he placed another chunk on the pile. That could wait. For now, he had to get this done.

Var winced as the blast took out a chunk of their armour and gave them a shallow flesh-wound on their lower back. They managed to swiftly turn around, how ever, and thrust their lightsaber directly in a stabbing motion, to try and impale the villain.

Confused as to how the attacker had managed to somehow magically avoid the close-range shots being fired at his back, Vyle decided not to give his foe an opportunity to dodge again. As the swordsman turned around and stabbed his blade at him, Vyle turned side on to let the blade narrowly slip past him, and stepped in close, firing at the attacker's torso at almost point blank range.

Var's armour absorbed most of the damage, although visible cracks formed in it in places, and the singing disrupted the visibility of their helmet. Var was pushed back by the blast, but they managed to twist their saber around in an attempted attack at the villain. At such a close range, it was unlikely they wouldn't hit something on him.

He stopped firing for a moment, astounded as to how his opponent's rather unremarkable armour was somehow almost completely unaffected by his weapon's explosive blasts. Distracted as he was, his foe's flailing blade scorched a ragged line across his faceplate, narrowly missing one of his eyes, and backed off towards the crater edge with a surprised wince.

 

"You're no hero," he spat, ejecting the near-depleted charge clip from his sidearm and replacing it with a new one, "So why attack those who liberated this galaxy from those dictators?"

"Oh please, don't give me that stereotypical villain mantra. I've heard enough about these so called heroes to know that they are not at all what you make them out to be. They are weak minded, gullible, and have far too much regard for the well-being of others." Var couldn't see out of their helmet, and so with their lightsaber raised and force senses on full, they removed their helmet with their free hand... revealing the head of a young human-like woman, with pale grey skin, yellow-red irises, and dark short-cut hair. As she spoke, her voice was soft, but was spoken with a harsh tone that had a layer of anger to it. "The fact that you make them out to be these dictatorial conquerors is quite frankly insulting to those that truly deserve that title."

Night Stalker does not stop shooting the entire time, jiggling his weapon slightly to try and get around the shield while keeping it focused on Gorn.  He hadn't used his gas bombs while the bot had been falling because he would have just left the cloud behind.  Now that he was on the ground and far slower, it was a different story.  He fired two gas bombs which exploded on impact, dousing Gorn and a few meters around him in the sickly green gas.  Depending on the strength of his armor and how well protected his inner systems are protected, he should begin to notice the effects with 15-25 seconds.

"And yet you're so eager to rush to their defence?" he scoffed, holstering his sidearm and drawing his cane, the damaged sheath folding away to fully reveal the concealed blade, "Do yourself a favour and get out of my way. I have no quarrel with you. Yet."

"Their defence?" Var scoffed, almost laughing at the absurdity of that comment. "I'm not rushing to anyone's defence. I'm rushing to your demise. What is your designation, droid?"

"And yet, you threw yourself from a Hero Factory vessel," he jabbed his blade towards the gunship, pointedly ignoring the woman's question, "With a Hero fighting by your side," he pointed back towards Gorn on the far side of the crater.

"Yes, a funny thing that. Turns out one of your oh-so loathed heroes has potential to be a sith droid as well." She said, moving her head as to gesture towards Gorn. "I had the pleasure of dueling him after assaulting their craft, and he has potential to be so much more than just a mere hero. I see possibilities in him that you couldn't possibly fathom. Now, I ask you again, droid. What is your name? Perhaps I could see benefit in delaying your annihilation as well after all."

She simply smiled. "So be it... droid scum." Suddenly, she swiftly lowered her blade arm and raised her other arm, shooting an intense arc of lightning straight at Vyle.

IC: Marrow - Battle of the Animals

Marrow bent forwards and let the claws rake lightly across its back, scratching it, but not deeply.

Pain was nothing new to it.

It countered the invisible Hero by twirling sharply, slashing its blades in a 360 degree circle and then kicking hard with a single taloned foot.

With an uneven drop at his back and potentially unstable terrain on either side, Vyle didn't bother trying to dodge the lightning. He raised his blade, positioning the electrified weapon to block the oncoming bolt. Sparks flew, the blade glowing red hot for in places as it momentarily struggled to absorb the heat of the strike. The weapon may have been designed to channel electricity, but not at this level of intensity. 

 

"What are you?" he demanded, as the last vestiges of the lightning finally dissipated. He was struggling to identify her species, and her abilities didn't seem consistent with any humanoid race he was aware of.

IC: Isaac Rider - "Fixing" Titanos

"That's the least of my concerns right now..." Isaac said, grabbing a torso and beginning to fuse the head to it, using his powers.

OOC: Er, no, GM here requesting an edit. I know that Var Vicious can do acrobatics, but that doesn't include eyes in the back of his head. Even if if it did, somehow, weaving away to dodge the shots would leave him too far away to stab Vyle. Realism please.

IC: Wilhelm Gorn- Gas attack

 

A few shots grazed Gorn's armor, causing him to speed up his advance slightly. Suddenly, a pair of bombs exploded near him. The explosions didn't seem to be intended to cause damage, but instead to expel green gas all around the surrounding area, engulfing the Hero. Whatever this stuff was, it probably wasn't intended to be good for his health. Especially considering who was using it. Gorn quickly charged out of the cloud, suffering some minor damage to his armor from the corrosion. As he reached Night Stalker, Gorn attempted to bash the gun arm away, while simultaneously igniting his sword and stabbing at his gut.

 

IC: Jason Ferro- Antropolis City

 

"R-right... I'll go do that now..."

 

Not wanting to worsen Furno's understandably sour mood, Ferro ran back into the tunnel. He began making his way to the second turbine, passing Flood along the way.

 

IC: Arsenal- Makuhero city rooftop

 

First appearing as a speck in the distance, The Lamprey's distinctive shape began getting clearer and clearer as it drew closer to Arsenal. If he had lungs, he would have breathed a sigh of relief.

Keeping tabs on Gorn with his radar, Night Stalker watches him as he starts to charge out.  He charges forward to meet the hero, swinging his hammer with both hands directly at where Gorn will be just as he start to be able to see again.

Expecting the gas to conceal him from his enemy's sight, Gorn was shocked when the villain swung at him the second he exited the cloud. Thankfully, he was able to reflexively put up his shield in order to avoid being crushed. The blow was much more powerful than Gorn thought it would be, causing his forearm to be pushed into his chest, partially crumpling that side of his breastplate. The shield itself was now bent, as well. Quickly rising to his feet, Gorn backed up few steps, (As well as slightly moving to the side, to avoid the gas). He assumed a defensive position, waiting for his opponent, about a meter away, to make a move.

OOC: Look, I made that post thinking that it was obvious Var had force sense, and thus would be able to dodge the shot even at that range, but since I didn't write "force sense" as one of Var's abilities, even though it was thought to be, I guess I'll have to re-write the post to reflect that fact. His hammer slammed into the hero's shield with a satisfying crunch, damaging both it and the hero.  Night Stalker again aimed his blaster at the hero, this time shooting both energy blasts and metal bullets.

I feel like I should apologize for not being here in approximately forever--my life went into a bit of a frenzy for a few months, but now I finally have a chance to jump back in with reasonable confidence of being able to post consistently. So, if someone could jump in here and fill me in on what's happened since I disappeared, I'd really appreciate it.

 

(And, while we're on the topic of things I should know, I noticed that my old characters aren't listed with the others on the first page. Does this mean they need to be re-approved, or can I just start posting IC again once I've got my bearings?)

OOC: Dude, I highly doubt that that's going to work in this case. Just because Var's a quasi-Star Wars expy, doesn't mean she should also have the ability to make it 100% harder for anyone else to hit her. If the fight had just started, and if she had been facing Mr. Vyle while he was shooting, sure, you probably wouldn't be having as much of a problem. As it stands right now, however, he's firing from behind her while she's still recovering from her previous strike (not to mention their close proximity to one another), so even if she was able to have sensed his attack, she likely wouldn't have had the necessary reaction time required to avoid the shots.

even though I did provide people with plenty of blind spots to potentially work around in his profile (not that he was in many fights to begin with, granted), if you were so opposed to the notion of characters with eyes in the back of their heads, then you should've never approved Epix in the first place since his drones pretty much worked in a similar fashion. And while I didn't initially agree with Nato, Zippy, or Onaku about Wraith's profile being OP, the fact that you originally approved both her and Epix leads me to believe that you clearly aren't being as thorough as you should be when it comes to reading through character profiles. This could obviously be due to a lack of time to do so in or because of a myriad of other factors outside of one's control, but the point is that it's starting to become a bit too consistant, and that's something that needs to be remedied. Oh, and on a side note, Zippy was also thinking about writing up a character with luck-based powers similar to Discordia's, so you might want to rethink your position on that as well, since I wasn't the only one with the idea, and you might end up having to revisit the concept sometime in the future.

Comments from the peanut gallery aside, I was completely serious when I said that I quit, and I fully intend on keeping it that way. Insert mic drop here.
