IC: Saracen Rune.

"And you're trying to blow up the planet," Saracen replied pointedly, finally making his way around the cannon to swing the butt of his rifle at Dumacc's head.

GM NPC DUMACC

"No, he is!" Dumacc shouted, pointing at "Mene Vantal." He blocked Sarcen's strike with the back of his machine gun, thrusting in his anger to try to throw Sarcen against the wall.

OOC: Part of that is conjecture, but someone had to move the prisoners from the cell block...and his first shapeshift was on camera. Busted.

GM IC ???

"That's ridiculous," the villain said. "I'm a hero, not in the business of blowing up planets. Meanwhile, you are guarding a weapon that is about to destroy Hero Factory, and destroying this planet would be a perfect way to cover your plans."

He advanced, thrusting his sword into the cannon in front of him, ensuring that the cannon would never fire again. Then he began pulling the cannon out of the way, away from Dumacc.

GM NPC STRINGER

Stringer, red energy crackling over his form, overloaded the guard and shed his cuffs in a manner similar of dusting his hands off. Running back to the vault, he launched twin bursts of anti-quaza energy at the two guards. They collapsed, unconscious, as their systems overloaded.

He furiously unlocked the vault, pulling out his and Bulk's weapons, and relocked the weapons vault behind him. Time to go find Bulk.

GM NPC BULK

Bulk's cuffs overloaded now; he was a bigger hero than Stringer, so it took longer. He got up, shoving the bodies off. He paused for a second, regarding Striker, before gesturing that he should follow him.

IC: Splint

Splint was surprised at the lack of responses to his offer for backup. Normally in an operation this big, at least four Heroes would request whatever assistance they could get, yet only Stringer had said anything. And he immediately retracted his request. Maybe everyone had things under control for once? That seemed implausible, though. Perhaps everyone was so tied up fighting that they had no time to respond.

The medic pulled up a map of Tranquis on his HUD. Almost all the Hero signals were at or near the old hospital. That was where the entrance to the underground facility was, according to the map of it he had received a few minutes ago.

He turned to Jet. "The nanites should be done with you now. We need to head over to the abandoned hospital. Let's move."

GM NPC BULK

Bulk shook his head. "What is wrong with you? We're on a planet that has a weapon pointed straight at Hero Factory. I need your help to dismantle the thing."

GM NPC STRINGER

Stringer walked up to Bulk, handing Bulk his weapon. "I had trouble with him in the tunnel earlier, but he rescued us," Stringer said. "We can deal with him after we get back to Hero Factory and get our cores fixed."

GM NPC DUMACC

Dumacc tried to dodge the Hero trying to slam into him, but Sarcen's flight capabilities made that impossible. So he took the impact on his side, wincing as he hit the wall on the other side. He howled in rage, trying to get his gun in position to fire.

IC: Eloise Thumper, walking back to hospital

After her rather abrupt sending off, Thumper dutifully took the corpse to the dropoff point. Not wanting to linger too long, she quickly hurried back towards the hospital. While she really didn't want to look at any more dead people, that Hero from earlier was the only one she'd seen. She hoped there were more in the hospital, ones that would have a job for her that wouldn't leave her feeling upset.

Of course, it was just as likely she'd be handed another corpse to take. The Hero who was taking them didn't seem particularly strong, it was probably hard work to lug deactivated Heroes around for him. She had a brilliant idea- if the Heroes on this planet were too busy to respond to her communication attempts, she could try contacting the mission manager back at Hero Factory!

She winced as she remembered she was probably meant to call in when she landed. She should have remembered that, and had been meaning to after calling out for other Heroes, but the quiet Hero's task had thrown her off. She hoped she hadn't worried anyone.

"Hello, Mission Control? This is Eloise Thumper. Sorry for the late response. I've landed in the planet's hospital, I'm heading back there now. Do you have any suggestions for where to head? I could use some evil to punch right now."

He dropped his rifle, using one hand to try to grab the barrel of Dumacc's weapon and direct it away from him, while the other reached for... "Ah, forgot about that..." he didn't have any more sets of hero cuffs.

IC: Riot - The Grand Tranq (Ground Floor)

Riot approached the elevator, pushing the button to go down and waiting for the doors to open before stepping inside.

Truth be told, the sound of the music playing inside made him briefly consider blowing out the speakers with one of his weapons, but he knew that he'd end up having to pay for new ones if he did, and likely listen to some long-winded speech from Mr. Makuro (again) as well, so he ultimately decided against it. What annoyed him even more, however, was that the interior panel required the use of a maintenance key for him to reach his intended destination.

Grumbling to himself as he walked back out through the doors, he began his trek back towards the lobby, activating his communicator as he did so.

"Hey, Schadenfreude," he said as he continued moving. "Think you can do a bot a favor and see if one of the civilians has an elevator key on them? I kind of need one to progress downstairs."

IC: Leighla Artemis - Sunny Square

Stepping out onto the pavement near the outskirts of the Commercial District, Leighla quickly scanned her surroundings, taking note of the unusual silence around her but otherwise sensing no immediate danger. Figuring that this was as good of a place to begin as any, she positioned herself in front of her camera bot, making a few adjustments to her attire in an effort to look more presentable as she waited for its blinking light to signal that she was on a live feed.

"Leighla Artemis, here, reporting to you from the scene of Tranquis VII, where Heroes are valiantly fending off the recent threats to the planet perpetrated by both numerous Villains and an army of Evil Brains. As you can see behind me, the streets so usually bustling and full of life have become both barren and utterly vacant in the wake of the incident, and in all of the chaos, most of the population have either tried to make their way off-world or have taken up shelter inside in an attempt to avoid the danger. Whether or not anyone has actually succeeded, however, is still up for debate, though as the track record of the Hero Factory suggests, it is currently this reporter's belief that everything that can be done to rectify the situation will be performed in the timeliest manner possible. Live from Tranquis VII, this is UNN's Leighla Artemis, signing off."

Watching on for a moment as the bot stopped recording, she lowered her microphone and proceeded to reattach it back onto its power source, conveniently strapped to the small of her back.

"Did the feed get through? Word was that planetary communications were previously offline, and I'd like to know whether something went wrong inside of the tower or if the area's being electronically jammed."

The camera bot immediately began running its self-diagnostics systems, eventually bobbing up and down and emitting a high-pitched chirp when it had discovered that everything was working well within reasonable parameters.

"Good. Now let's go see just exactly what's happening out there."

Turning around and looking down the street, the pair began their journey deeper into the square, cautiously watching out for any oncoming trouble as the took in their surroundings.

OOC: Ah. It appears that I misread that particular Crowley Post, Nato. My bad.

Switching back to Leighla for a moment, if we assume that she has a temperature modifier of at least 2.25 (not counting whatever method is currently in use to keep the interior temperature of "standard" civilians from going beyond 80 - 90 F so their circuitry doesn't overheat on them, since said modifier would be slightly higher), and that the average temperature on Tranquis VII (not including wind chill) was somewhere around 100 F, that would mean to her it would still feel like it was somewhere around 44 F, as room temperature would be somewhere around 162 F.

Seeing these numbers now, and taking into account the melting point of and Steel (2,500 F, respectively; assuming that the body of a civilian is primarily composed of this), the temperature of, say, a laser weapon, would have to reach a temperature of around 5,625 F in order to effectively burn through her body. Obviously, a weapon that fired off a more solid or speedy projectile (such as Riot's Plasma Cannons) would still punch through her due to the force of impact, and being bathed with a flamethrower would be sure to overheat her circuitry, probably to the equivalent of her passing out or needing repairs done if a circuit ended up blowing on her (since her interior temperature would still be past the 180 - 202.5 F range), but she'd likely still recover after a stretch in the hospital.

Speaking of which, she's now open for interaction.

IC: Eloise Thumper - Inside Hospital

A marker blinked on Thumper's HUD. "Oh! Thank you. Thumper out."

He had sounded busy, so she didn't ask about the situation. She supposed she would be able to guess what the situation was when she got there, or ask a fellow Hero what to hit.

The marker brought her to a hole in the ground. She could hear fighting and laser fire down below. Now this was more like it. She jumped down, landing heavily on her feet with a loud clang, and saw several Heroes fighting against a single robot, a cannon, and some wall-mounted blasters. The blaster was actively firing, so she ran at it, meaning to grab it and rip it off the wall.

IC Jet [sunny Square]:
The rookie gave Splint an affirmative nod, happy to be moving on to the heart of the action, and began heading towards the hospital.

IC Wolfe [Enemy Base Entrance]:
Confused, Wolfe spared Vantal an ambivalent glance, trying to keep his focus on Dumacc. He thought about the comm chatter concerning Stringer's corrupted core, and wondered briefly if the green-armored Hero had also be compromised. The veteran barely remembered Mene Vantal, and was therefore unable make a proper assessment of his behavior. However, this was an issue to be resolved after the Heroes captured Dumacc.

The youngsters seemed to be handling things -- at least for the moment -- so Wolfe remained where he was, ready to fire a shot at the villain if Saracen failed to cuff him.

IC: Echo - Extraction point

After dropping off Daxer at the extraction point and watching Thumper head back towards the hospital, Echo was ready for his next target. Opening the comms, he requested his next coordinates with a simple "Done. Next."

Drift's voice filled his ear-piece a moment later with "Took you long enough. You're next one should be a 'Breez'. Head on over to these and escort the civilians to the evac point."

A new set of coordinates appeared in Echo's HUD, pointing him in the direction of some sort of... hotel or something. Drift was right: he never got the fun jobs.

OOC: If no one else wants to be extracted, I'll send Echo into the fray next.

IC: Jimmy Abacus

Location: Above underground doorway

Jimmy knelt down, having found the exact location where he would be directly above the doorway. He began focusing, taking out his hacking kit and connecting it to himself to give him more signal strength. He began feeling his way through the floor, through the ground layer, and into the tunnel below. About four different signals in the immediate vicinity, he could feel. Verifying the first three as hero signals, the last one was undoubtedly different, and he locked on. Designation Dumacc, he guessed, as he began to press into his mind. If nothing else, it would at least distract the villain, helping the heroes fighting him.

GM NPC DUMACC

Dumacc pulled back from the three Heroes on his wheels, away from the cuffs held by Sarcen. He began firing his pistol and machine gun at the Heroes.

He sensed an intrusion into his mind, and ignored it. They could learn whatever they wanted. They could kill him, imprison him. But he would never give up until the last Hero was dead. Instead, he sent a signal to the cannon in front of him. It exploded, bringing the front of the hallway entrance down.

GM IC ???

"Mene Vantal" was thrown back out of the tunnel, hitting the other side with the force of the impact. His neck snapped with the force of the impact, feeding the mental energy circuit of this being with a load of pain, beyond what most beings could stand and remain conscious, or even alive.

It was enough to make him scream.

GM IC JIMMY ABACUS

Jimmy's hacking equipment - the first thing it would pick up was a narrative file from Dumacc's history banks. Whoever had designed this bot had not designed him like Karter - Dumacc was designed to feel emotion and communicate to others, like a female pleasure bot. However, it was clear that Dumacc was designed to be a friendly transport bot on Valos II, where the Jungle made transportation by vehicle an impossibility.

One time Dumacc was evacuating panicked civilians from a burning village when the Hero Factory showed up. One of his friends swiped a console from one of his other friends during the escape, and the Hero Factory arrested him as a villain. Nothing Dumacc said would make them let him go free - they kept unraveling connections he had to supposed villains in the area. Dumacc knew better - he was just trying to make a living.

After a long time pleading with them in Makuhero City, Dumacc finally took matters into his own hands and snuck into Hero Factory at night, pressing the right buttons and overriding the correct security systems to break his friend free.

His friend's name was Karter.

And that was when the ground started to give way in front of Abacus' hacker system as the room exploded, spraying dirt at high velocity.

Thumper was thrown back by the blast, but quickly shook it off. The side of her body closest to the blast seemed damaged, from a cursory glance, but she had more pressing matters to attend to. One of the Heroes had screamed in pain behind her. She ran over quickly, ignoring her slight limp, and knelt beside him. "Are you okay? What hurts?"

She wasn't great at field repairs, but she could at least comfort the guy until she got over someone who was. Hopefully, he wasn't seriously hurt.

OOC: I'm slowly realising that it's hard to convey injury from the point of view of someone who doesn't feel them. :L

IC: Echo - The Grand Tranq

Echo entered the hotel structure and almost immediately noticed the group of civilians huddled together. He took a step forward and then, thinking of a better course of action, steered himself into a corner and knelt in his usual position. He would scan the building first. Echo had been ambushed once before and it wasn't an experience he had enjoyed. He always made sure to check beforehand. Better safe than sorry.

After a few minutes of sitting in silence and gathering a map of the ground floor, Echo stood up and reviewed the data he had just collected. There were a handful of blurred areas on his map, signifying something moving around: a life-form. Were there other Heroes in the building? Echo sent out a signal to all Heroes on the ground floor, hoping all the smudges would be accounted for...

IC: Saracen Rune - Tunnel.

The blast flung him sideways, his shoulder taking the brunt of the impact, the armour crumpling out of shape yet again. He dug himself out of the rubble, sensors indicating that his form was peppered with dents and welts and scratches from the shrapnel. Worse still, the brightness of the explosion had temporarily overwhelmed the thermal imaging software on his goggles, forcing it to reboot. Thankfully, the billowing clouds of dust and debris thrown up by the blast made it near possible for him to see anything more than a foot or so in front of him. Hopefully Dumacc was having the same problem.

He put the cuffs away and crawled quietly across the floor until he found his rifle, then took up a position behind a chunk of mangled cannon, switching to night vision in the hopes of spotting some sign of Dumacc. It wouldn't be as effective as thermal, but if Dumacc started firing again he'd probably be able to spot the muzzle flashes of his weaponry.

The shield slowly began to heat up as it took the laser fire, one shot hitting Ghid's partially exposed elbow. A very small squeak of pain came from his mouth as he tried to be tough.

IC Wolfe [Enemy Base Entrance]:

The force of the explosion threw Wolfe back down the hallway near Vantal and Thumper. He landed at an awkward angle, and cried out as searing pain shot up his bow arm. "Saracen! Ghid!" he hollered, his vision blurred enough that he couldn't make out if anyone else was on his side of the explosion or not.

He heaved himself to his feet, leaning against the wall with his good shoulder. "Everyone alright?" he called, covering his face with his free hand while he waited for his vision to clear up.

There was no light in the Hero's eyes. To an outside observer, it would appear that Mene Vantal was dead. Again.

Behind this veneer, in the villain's mental circuit, there was chaos as the pain made what would normally have been an easy decision - play dead and hope that the heroes left him, or repair his form and "stay alive" to be a frustratingly difficult task.

IC: Splint

Splint approached the hospital. It was plainly obvious that a battle had gone down there. There were several large holes in the structure, and a small amount of smoke was drifting out. On the first floor, the entire front wall was demolished. A crash trench started just outside where the wall had been and continued inside the building, ending in a mess of metal that vaguely resembled a Hero Pod. Splint hoped that whoever was inside was well-armored.

A muffled explosion came from underground. He had to hurry. The medic glanced over his shoulder to make sure Jet was still following, then strode inside, axe at the ready. He didn't want to get ambushed. Again.

Sarcen's words irritated Dumacc. Picking up a laser turret, he threw it at the sound of the noise, only for it to clank against something. There was no grunt of impact response, which was enough to make the robot roll forward to get a better vantage point.

IC Jet [Entering Hospital]:

The rookie marveled at the damage wrought on the building, half wishing he could have seen what had transpired there, but changed his mind when he felt the ground tremor. Worried for the others, he quickened his pace, following Splint deeper into the hospital...

IC Wolfe [Enemy Base - Northeast Passages]:

"Undetermined," Wolfe replied, remembering he had a comm-link. "There are no death signals on my HUD, so that's a good sign..." However, by the sound of Thumper's voice, it seemed that he had spoken too soon.

Picking his way through the debris (and the toppled-over Ghid), Wolfe moved over to the motionless form of Mene Vantal, and sat opposite Thumper. He clicked his bow into its folded form and set it aside, then gingerly moved Vantal's head with one hand into a less awkward-looking position, looking him over as he did so. "Scratch that, we may lose another Hero if we don't do something soon," he informed Saracen with a sigh. "I'll get back to you in a minute."

"Here, lay him flat on the ground and keep his head still," he instructed Thumper before switching over to the general HF frequency. "This is Wolfe calling any available medic. We have a Hero down, repeat, Hero down. He is completely unresponsive with possible spinal and/or cranial damage. Please advise, over."

Thumper followed the newcomer's instructions, careful to mind the strength of her grip. Hearing over her comm. that the imprisoned Heroes were fine was a tremendous relief, but it sounded like the unconscious (she hoped) Hero before her was in a really bad way. She glanced up to see one of her fellow Heroes under fire by their robot attacker. As soon as this Hero got to a medic, that villain was going to meet her fist, face-to-face. Well, face-to-fist.

"Got it," he replied with a wince, as a bullet pinged off the metal in front of him. And now I've got you... He pointed the barrel of his rifle towards the muzzle flash of Dumacc's rifle, adjusting his aim slightly as he recalled which hand the villain had been holding the weapon in, then firing.

GM NPC DUMACC

Dumacc actually moved toward Saracen's shot, firing his machine gun. He had only seconds before Stringer and Bulk arrived, and he was determined to make them count.

Just one more dead hero... Sarcen's shot hit, knocking him backwards.

IC: Splint

Splint rapidly made his way over to the Hero Pod, expecting someone to be trapped within. The door was laying on the ground and the craft was unoccupied. Perhaps they had been found by the other Heroes.

Wolfe's call gave him a start. "This is field medic Splint. Keep his head stable and don't attempt to reposition him. I'm in the hospital now, ETA 15 seconds. Over." While saying this, he had started sprinting down a hall towards the sounds of fighting.
