Protector's Families?

Recommended Posts

So what is our understanding of the Protector's of Okoto and their family relations? We know the whole "gender based on tribe" is null in G2, based on the Protector of Earth being a woman and the Protector of Water being a man. I also recall a Protector in an animation explaining to what looked to be his child the legend of the Toa, and that their masks were passed down "Father to Son."

What else do we know about Okoto's family life? Where can you imagine the story going with this?

All aboard the hype train!

It's worth mentioning that the character explaining the legends of Okoto to their son in the first webisode is not, in fact, a Protector, but seemingly just an ordinary villager. However, since the son bears a lot of resemblance to the animated version of Narmoto, the Protector of Fire (for instance, armor shells on the front of his lower legs rather than the sides of his upper legs, and fluorescent reddish orange forearms instead of black ones), it's possible that the parent shown in that episode is actually the Protector of Fire's spouse.

The website and book also confirms that the title of Protector is passed down from father to son (or I suppose in Korgot's case, daughter). The Protectors who first found Ekimu's body, laid him to rest in the City of the Mask Makers, and heard the Prophecy of Heroes are the ancestors of the ones who used the Mask of Time to create the planetary alignment that summoned the Toa.

I don't know how much exploration of this to expect in the story. Maybe if the second chapter book turns out to be a supplementary story in between this year's story and next year's (as the title would suggest), then we'll see more of the Protectors and villagers in that book. But I do not expect the Protectors and villagers to play as big a role in next year's story as this year's, since we do not know of any new Protector or villager sets next year, and Ekimu seems to have somewhat taken the place of the Protectors as a mentor figure to the Toa.
