BULiK
ive noticed that in some of the new forums, when topics get closed, they just dissappear, instead of having a handy dandy lock icon beside them. in some forums, like new member q&a, they are still here for reference. but where do those dead topics go? do they go to the archives? or will we have to have another downtime next year to update the archive? Peach 00
I'm pretty sure they eventually disappear once they reach the bottom of the last page on any forum. In the Short Stories forum, it does the same thing. I have no doubt that in a few months, they might have to update the archives, but how it will be done will be the question - considering the archives has the old forums, and may not be able to process the data of the new forums. With all topics, I am sure they are simply deleted, and other topics in the Library either need to be posted in to be brought back, or need to be reposted if they drop to the last page and are lost. You can still view any old topics by looking at a member that posted in some of the topics to look at them, such as the person that locked the topic. Whether they go to the archives, I'm not sure. They probably don't, and are just deleted so they don't take up space on the forums, even if they're locked. The aforementioned way of doing is another reason they disappear, but I don't believe they go the archives. Edited November 29, 2011 by Peach 00 On the day the wall came down / They threw the locks onto the ground And with glasses high / We raised a cry / For freedom had arrived On the day the wall came down / The ship of fools had finally run aground Promises lit up the night / Like paper doves in flight I dreamed you had left my side / No warmth, not even pride remained And even though you needed me / It was clear that I could not do a thing for you Now life devalues day by day / As friends and neighbors turn away And there's a change that even with regret / Cannot be undone Now frontiers shift like desert sands / While nations wash their bloodied hands Of loyalty, of history / In shades of grey I woke to the sound of drums / The music played, the morning sun streamed in I turned and I looked at you / And all but the bitter residues slipped away slipped away... The 1st Shadow
I noticed this as well. I thought it was just a glitch, but if it's persisting, I wonder what's up? ~Your friendly, neighborhood Shadow ~Credit for Avatar and Banner goes to NickonAquaMagna~
Catra
Maybe it just has to do with how you're viewing the forums, because I sorted GD to display all topics from all time and I'm seeing topics that were started in October when the site came back up, including locked topics. bionicle is trans culture
Gatanui
To clarify, there are no plans to expand the archive, to create a new archive nor to ever delete old topics. There are only little over 70 000 posts at the moment, so I am sure we can bear several years of activity without having to delete anything. ~Gata. - Gata Please don't use my avatar or signature without permission, thanks! -Windrider-
Aho is right. And now it's time for a little lesson. On the new boards, each individual forum is set to display a certain set of topics, based on date of last activity. For example, GD is set to display topics active within the last thirty days. Here's a visual example of GD, to show you how to find the settings for each forum.Just click on "Custom" (marked by bright red) on the top bar in any forum. You'll find the settings under "Time Frame" (marked by dark red). The perspicacious folks will notice that the "Time Frame" for topics displayed in each forums corresponds to its revival limit. The revival limit in GD is 30 days; GD is set to display topics active within the past 30 days. BBC's revival limit is 20 days, and the forum is set to display topics active within 20 days. The reason the boards are set up this way is to help fight revival. If dead topics are hidden by the default settings, it is less likely that someone will revive them. So, the reason topics are disappearing is because, more simply put, they have gone past the revival limit in that forum. They aren't getting deleted; they are simply not being displayed with the default settings. As Aho-Chan mentioned, you can change these settings to view all topics, and have them appear again:If you select "Show All" from the "Time Frame" menu, then your missing topics will appear again, on the last pages. If you check the Q&A forum, you'll notice that by default, it is set to "Show All." This is because there is no revival limit in the Q&A forum. So, topics may "disappear" around these forums, but don't worry, the boards aren't pruning them or anything. Nor are they being shipped off to some archive. They're just hidden, and you'll need to tweak some settings to see them. Also, Gatanui is right. :psychotwitch:Question answered, topic closed.
