Official BBC Contest #71: The Witching Hour!

It's the most wonderful time of the year: it's Halloween season! Everything gets a little more morbid, you can dress up in costume and nobody's allowed to think you're weird, Tim Hortons sells those doughnuts with the gummy worms on them... It's a very creepy, spine-tingling time of year. Witches! Zombies! Skeletons!

... skeletons...

... Sometimes, picking a theme is too easy.

For this seventy-first of contests, you're gonna build something Halloween-y. Ghosts are good, ghouls are good, anything from Morticia Addams' Pinterest page is good. And yes, skeletons are good. Just remember, it doesn't have to be a skeleton.

The nights are dark and full of inspiration, so get to it!

Entries begin being accepted as soon as this topic is posted, and will stop being accepted on Wednesday, October 28th at 11:59 P.M. EST. We will accept unlimited entries for this contest, so there's no need to rush your entry. To enter, simply submit your entry name and entry picture through this handy form!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A running tally of entrants will be updated daily IN A SEPARATE PINNED TOPIC, which will be posted shortly after the first entries are received.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Voting Process:

Preliminary Voting begins October 30th and ends November 2nd at 11:59 P.M. EST.
Semifinal Voting begins November 2nd and ends November 4th at 11:59 P.M. EST.
Final Voting begins November 4th and ends November 6th at 11:59 P.M. EST.
The contest winner and final voting results will be posted in a separate thread on November 7th.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules:

1) Your entry may not have been published prior to the start of this contest. You may make your own topic before submitting your entry through the official form, but you must submit through the form before the entry period ends in order to be officially entered. If, after posting your entry anywhere on BZP but before officially entering it (including the blogs), you modify it and then enter it, you will be disqualified. You may only start one topic for your entry. You can do pictures as normal in your own separate thread. If you need help posting pictures, please see this topic.

2) Don't PM the contest host unless you have to. Ask questions in this topic and the host or an assistant will answer it.

3) Painted parts are NOT ALLOWED. No non-LEGO parts. All other LEGO parts are fair game; however, for the most part, they should be Bionicle pieces and Technic pieces. Let's say, at least 75% of the MOC Bionicle/Technic parts. Pictures in which the appearance of the MOC has been edited in Photoshop or other editing software are also prohibited. If either method is used, the MOC will be disqualified. The background may be edited, as long as it does not alter the appearance of the MOC.

4) Only one entry per member. You cannot switch or modify models mid contest. Once you have entered, you may not "un-enter" your models and enter new or modified ones in their stead. You may opt to bow out of the contest for whatever reason but you cannot reenter under such a situation. If you get disqualified for any reason, you will not be allowed to reenter with another MOC in that contest.

5) Any flaming will result in disqualification from the contest. Competition is good if you keep it clean. Everyone play fair, NO WHINING, no insults. I reserve the right to DQ any entry at any time for any reason.

6) Absolutely, positively NO CHEATING! Anyone found to be cheating or even suspected of cheating will face immediate disqualification from this contest and will be banned from participating in future contests. They will likely also be banned from the site. Mods know this information, so you're not fooling anyone but yourself by thinking you can get away with it. We run a check on people with multiple accounts too, which is an offense that results in banning from BZP entirely, aside from the contest... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

7) No "this is unfair" posting. Some people have more parts, money, time, birds, gigs left on your hard drive, etc than others. That's life; we each have to do our best with what we have. Any excessive complaining may, at the judgment of the contest runner, disqualify you!

8) Discussion is encouraged. Feel free to ask questions about models you see or about the contest in general. This is for us, the BBC builders; let's have some fun with it.

9) The contest is open to all BZP members, and voting is open to all BZP members to participate in even if they did not enter a MOC. "Advertising" your MOC is fine by making a signature or avatar reminding people to vote for you, but mass-PMing is frowned upon and will just get you disqualified. Advertising your MOC in someone else's thread is also a major no-no. Spamming may result in proto loss or even post-count reductions, so don't do it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prizes:

FIrst place will receive a 70795 Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder. Second place will receive a 70793 Skull Basher. Third place will receive a 70791 Skull Warrior. Thanks to LEGO for the prizes!

Well, this fits perfectly with me coming off a spree of Doom and Quake levels.

So, um, question.  Do you think the Cacodemon or the Pain Elemental would be scarier?  I'm leaning towards the Caco, personally.

EDIT: Please note that the Jaga is subject to opinion changes approximately every fifteen minutes =P

Well, I have mine ready, just need to take pictures.  Ah yes.  Dark, brooding, mutant creature.  Quite deliciously evil.  The first of my minions... TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHA--

--wait, did I say that out loud?  =P

I'm in the same boat.

Except I also built Takanuva, as a failsafe in case they attempted to the world.

I'm just waiting for someone to build Slenderman.

:P

Anyway, in regards to the "Your MOC can't have been published before the contest"- does this apply only to BZP, or to the whole internet? (So, for example, could I show some people on Skype my MOC, get feedback, modify the model and then enter it?)

Showing people images on skype isn't really publishing...

Embers - a new Bionicle Epic - Coming 2024

Does it have to be something halloween related, or can it be anything scary (even if it's made up)?

Please try to keep the spirit of this Halloween-themed contest in mind.

Question: are LDD entries allowed, or only physical entries? This sounds like fun and I'd like to try my hand at something to submit, but I haven't access to the vast majority of my physical parts right now.

LDD entries aren't permitted.

I'm just waiting for someone to build Slenderman.

:P

It refers to having been published anywhere on BZPower.

huh... I just made a very skeleton-y creation about a week ago; I cant remember, what is the stance on submitting things? do they have to have been made specifically for the contest, or can they be something you made before?

Oh wait, dang. I put it up here on BZP in the last week... Naturally, the first time I ever put a MOC up here out of all the years I've been on this site, its one just a few days before that I could've entered it into something :P

I'm probably going to make some modifications to it though, make it more spooky. hopefully that'll make it enterable XD

If I collaborate with someone in order to make my entry, is there anything against that?

Im pretty sure there's a rule that says people cant collaborate, since it often raises the problem of dividing up the prizes, or if one wants to pull out and such :P

You sure? It doesn't say anywhere in this topic, at least.

You have to enter as an individual.

If you've posted it before, you can't enter it. You would have to modify it significantly in order for it to be considered a different MOC. It's safer to build something entirely different.

This one I'm gonna skip, I'd enter, even have 2 ideas already, but with my current job I don't have that much time to MOC, plus what time I have I want to use to work on the things I already put in queue for revamping.

Then again not like anyone ever bothers with my entries, casual people can't compete with Mr. "Cluster MOC builder" who can buy half of BrickLink and get it delivered under a day. (And I don't care about the whole "Oh that's how it is just deal with it". It's a cheap excuse and you know it) Not to mention the general lack of interest in the non-famous builders/new comers, they're lucky if they get a view or two maybe a comment, even if their MOC is actually good or dare I say looks better than "X" big name MOCer's creation designs. You can't really call something a fair game if some odds are already stacked against some people before the thing even starts.

While it's hardly accurate to say only the "big names" win contests or get any votes, it's 100% true that whining and poor sportsmanship can prevent you from entering any future contests. Since this is far from the first time I've had to warn you about your behaviour, this is your final warning.

I can certainly vouch for that; looking through all the past BBCs lately, MOCist legends have certainly come and gone, and even the best and most well known of them don't always make it first in a contest! Sometimes its even the small and simple things that everyone has the parts for that end up winning :)

In any case, I don't know if im gonna end up entering anything, since the only halloweenish pieces I have are in that moc' I just made; might take him apart though if the mood strikes me, though I think im going to see about getting my hands on another skull enemy set before I do :P

LDD entries aren't permitted.

Why is this, exactly? Cause, I'd love to take part, and do most of my MOCing with LDD, since it allows me a great deal more creative freedom, as well as parts I wouldn't have access to otherwise.

I think it works hand in hand with the whole "no complaining cuz this is unfair, don't have as much parts as so and so," rule.
