No LEGO Ideas Projects Make it Through the First 2015 Review

Recommended Posts

This falls under the category of totally unexpected and somewhat perplexing announcements: The LEGO Ideas team has decided not to let any of the fourteen projects that reached 10k supporters between January and May 2015 pass the review stage. The oddball is F7A Hornet - Star Citizen, which was not declined yet and is still in review instead. Unfortunately, LEGO is not giving any individual explanations for any project and instead only refers to some of the general reasons why a project may be rejected. Hopefully the second 2015 review will bring better news. Check out the official announcement for more details.

What's the rationale for not giving specific reasons for not accepting a design? Wouldn't that help designers in the future?

Steam Name: Toa Hahli Mahri. Xbox Live Gamertag: Makuta. Minecraft Username: ThePoohster.

Wants: 2003 Jaller (from Jaller and Gukko), Exo-Toa, Turaga Nuju, Turaga Vakama, Shadow Kraata, Axonn, Brutaka, Vezon & Fenrakk, Nocturn, ORANGE FIKOU.

I got rid of my picture, are you happy?

A bit sad, but seeing as that most either conflicted with a current/upcoming Lego set/theme or probably had IP issues, it's not surprising. As for the next review group...

Adventure Time: Perhaps, if they can get the IP, that is.

Caterham Super Seven: It's probably too big, but if not, then it could pass.

Modular Library, Rivendell, Lothlorien: Too big, probably won't pass.

Lego Physics: Seems rather big, but I suppose if a marble maze can pass then maybe it can too.

Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man: Since Lego already has the Ghostbusters license, that may hinder this project's chances. But you never know...

Indominus Rex: A white, slightly modified Tyrannosaurus Rex from the previous review? There's no way.

The Little Prince: Maybe.

What?! Well what was the point in picking those things up for review if they're just going to dump 'em?!

First, anything that gets 10,000 supports goes to review. The LEGO Group doesn't hand-pick them. Second, the LEGO Group often doesn't know what would actually be viable as a set UNTIL they get to review. That's what the review process is for — determining which projects have what it takes to become a set and which ones don't. The LEGO Group isn't going to lower their standards for what they release as sets just so something makes it through in a crowded review period.
