Hapori Tohu
Development of the next installment of The LEGO Movie has progressed a bit further, as Chris Miller tweeted that he turned in the first draft for the sequel. While he and Phil Lord are not directing the next movie, they have returned for the story. Although the tweet was short on insight, Entertainment Weekly reminds us that they are keeping in mind Emmet's "existential crisis" and that Finn is now a teenager. Until then, Lord and Miller are also working on The LEGO Batman Movie and Ninjago. View the full article Quote News Forums Q&A
Toa Smoke Monster
That's good to hear. I'm interested in seeing how Finn as a teenager will affect the story. Toa Kayn
That's good to hear. I'm interested in seeing how Finn as a teenager will affect the story. I'm having a wild guess and thinking maybe it's something to do with letting go of LEGO and "growing up". Maybe a kind of Toy Story type deal Quote Kayn's Thought: My hiatus of Bionicle has ended

Aanchir
Who is Finn? Have you seen The LEGO Movie? If not it's a pretty major spoiler... Finn is the child from the LEGO Movie's third-act meta-story. 1 Quote Latest MOC: PAIGE (Prototype Artificial Intelligence, Gynoid Expression)

Maybe a kind of Toy Story type deal I'm thinking the same thing. It's like Toy Story 3. I believe it would be a scary thought for Lego child fans, but let's hope that the sequel would be as good as The Lego Movie 1, since I heard Toy Story 3 was successful. Lyichir
That's good to hear. I'm interested in seeing how Finn as a teenager will affect the story. I'm having a wild guess and thinking maybe it's something to do with letting go of LEGO and "growing up". Maybe a kind of Toy Story type deal I've been hoping for something sort of similar, though I'm hoping for a much different takeaway lesson than Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 ended with Andy "moving on" and passing his toys on to another child. A lot of kids do "grow out" of Lego, but it doesn't necessarily have to happen, and it doesn't always last. AFOLs who have rediscovered their love for Lego refer to that period of abandoning Lego as their "dark ages". I'd love for The Lego Movie 2 to explore what happens when Finn begins to enter his "dark ages", and how that affects the Lego world. Does it begin to break down and decay? Do his younger sister (who should be in the age range for normal Lego or even themes like Friends by the sequel) or The Man Upstairs pick up the slack, and how does that change the development of the world Finn helped to create? And is Finn abandoning Lego even the right choice? I'd love for the sequel to explore those sorts of themes with the same level of thematic depth and complexity as the original movie's themes of order vs. chaos and teamwork vs. independence. Sybre
I'm more excited for this than I was for the first one. Sounds like the sequel will take on some pretty heavy stuff! I'm thinking Finn becoming a teenager and possibly abandoning LEGO will spark Emmet's crisis or something, but that's just my theory. And if the first draft is turned in, that means we're still getting progress despite the spin offs. Good for them! 1 Quote mindeth the cobwebs
