This I my first attempt at a short story, ever. So, if things don't seem like they're all there, or if the writing is a bit off, please excuse me for that.

Long, long ago, before the time of the Romans, Lived a Young Boy who dwelled near the black forests of Germany, This boy lived with his parents and three siblings, two sisters and one brother. The boy from a young age lived a quiet life, occasionally working the fields with his father and older brother. From his youngest memories he could recall that he lived with them in a quiet little village, within a quite little valley.

However, one dreadful evening his quiet little life was turned around. A horde of barbarians invaded his little village, in search of something the boy did not know of. Managing to escape the chaos, the boy ran into the woods. Deep, deep, and deeper he ran. Until, he could hear the sounds of chaos no longer. he was cold, dredged in freezing water, the boy stubbled his way into a clearing surrounded tall dark trees, looking up at the stars, the galaxy, and everything he knew it to be, he dreaded what his life may become, with no family, no village, nothing. Saddened and distraught at the thought, the boy wept, and wept some more, until his weeping became tearing, than crying. He cried out to the darkness around him "Mother! Father! Anyone! Please, help me!" but there was no response, only the rustling of leaves in the cold dark night.

Falling to his knee's he cried some more, but not before he saw out of the corner of his eye a dimly lit cave, so dimly though, that he could barely make it out, partially relieved by this, the boy ran as quickly as he could towards the cave. But, when he arrived the cave was empty, he walked cautiously into the structure, lightly asking aloud "Hello? can anyone hear me? please? Anyone!?" he could see an entrance to a deep portion of the cave, realizing that there was more to traverse, the boy tried his hardest to keep going, but his tired, and broken body simply couldn't be pushed anymore, clutching his body, he fell to his knees a let out a cry of sorrow.

Hearing the boy's call for help, a large figure stepped out from the inner portion of the cave. The figure was very tall, it had a very bulky build to it, it's feet where large, almost huff like, but had soft skin in the bottoms of it's huffed toes, the legs where three-jointed, thick, and muscular. It's upper body was equally has massive, the torso jutted upwards into two large humanoid arms, that ended in four fingered hands, each holding on to a large branch that functioned as a cane or staff os some hind, though the strangest thing about the creature was the head, appearing to look like a strange mix of a Deer and an Elk, with partially goat-like eyes, it had sort pointed ears to dropped down towards the back of it's head. And the most striking of features, were the large and orange looking antlers that it had. Looking like a mass of large spirals and loops criss-crossing into one another to create a strange and wondrous pattern to them. The creature had on a long brown and green cloak, looking like a mesh of tree-bark, and vines.

The large creature, took the boys beaten and tired body and brought him into their care, placing him on a bed of wool, the large creature took out a large thick sheet from behind it's robes, and laid it over the boy. The Creature looked over the boy for a few hours that night before resting itself. The next morning the boy came to find himself completely rested and healed. Looking over to his side he saw the large creature. The large creature drew  inwards, and hugged the boy in a sign of compassion. The boy asked the creature of it's name, but the creature simply replied with "The Queen of the Cave." Not quite knowing how to respond to this, the boy knowing what he knew asked if he may call her by a name of his own, she replied with a nod of agreement, he boy responded with "How about, the Deer-Faced Queen?" the boy said cautiously. The creature let out a chuckle, and took the boy into her arms, sat down with the boy, and nurtured him in her arms.

For many years after, the boy lived with the Queen, telling stories, and caring for each other, one day though, when the boy was an adult, the barbarians returned, so did his family. The barbarians told the boy that he belonged to them, and that his parents took him away from them. Distrusting the barbarians, the Queen stepped forth, her size jolted the barbarians into a fearful stance. Looking to them, she said "Let them go" referring to the boy's parents, they ran off in fear, and together they lived peacefully once more, eventually the boy found his siblings, and they rejoined into his life.

And, that is the Tale, of the Boy, and the Deer-Faced Queen. THE END.
