TOA ARAUN AND VULPI

24184729072_8884fe073a_c.jpg

Araun, Master of Ice, journeys with Vupli, the ancient Spirit of Ice to seek a mysterious hidden relic! Armed with Araun’s Permafrost Staff and Vupli’s Ice Blaster, this icy pair can win any fight!

This is a 2016-esque revamp and 4th version of my self-MOC, Araun. While Araun does have an animal companion in the form of Vupli, the two do not "unite" like this year's Toa do with the elemental creatures. Araun uses my TW2 gearbox design, a torso shell from a "Fusion Warriors" set, a chestplate from an XSZ Iron Man figure, and a custom painted Mask of Fire.

Excellent work on this one! I love the custom work on the torso, but I feel like the legs look a bit too skinny compared to the more bulky upper torso. When I do the video reviews for the iterations of Araun, I'll be sure to go into more detail. :)

Vulpi is another good one. The head is my favorite part. I feel like the shaping of the head without the armor looks better than it does with armor. But the colors are weird and it looks too skinny. Wish there was a way to get some sort of in-between for that, but I don't know how you'd manage it.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad you like Araun's torso build. As for Vulpi's head... I'm gonna have to disagree with you. IMO, the head looks pretty silly without the 5M shell. But, different strokes I guess.

I look forward to the reviews!

Wow!  I think I like the yellow guy better, but this one is really awesome too.  The color scheme is so striking, even though it's mostly just black and white.  I think it's the way you've accented them by layering them in just such a way.  Super cool, bro.

Thank you! Funny story, the black was originally only added because I wanted to use black Vorox armour somewhere on him. Later on though, I decided against using the Vorox armour, but left the black in place.

Like this model  a lot, a good example of a build following the general ideas of the new Bionicle sets. Maybe it's me but arauns upper leg's loot a bit weird, especially his hips. Vupli is cute but his feet are rather lackluster compared to the rest of the models. Why use simple ball socket pieces for feet?

Thanks for the comments! I went with socket pieces as the small IFB Beast feet just looked much too big on Vulpi.

Wow, this is a great MOC!

As someone whose seen most of your iterations of Araun, this model does a nice job of emulating him and also bringing in the new of 2016 (though I feel using bootleg parts is cheating :P). And Vulpi is a nice small creature. A+ to you. It makes me want to revamp my self-MOC...

...wait a second...
