Soran
Howdy, Soran here. I may as well get on with the picture first. Give up the Ghost So this is a digital painting I did of a scene to appear in my comic series, "The Road to Home". It depicts my character, Soran, leaning over a dead matoran who is a Nynrah Ghost. The title of the painting is a play on the phrase, "Give up the Ghost," which means to die, in this case "Ghost" is referencing the fact that it's a Nynrah Ghost. This was mainly a test for me to see if I could create a character looking distraught without showing any facial emotions and since matoran wear masks it ended up working out well for me. There's also a story behind this which is based off of the actual BIONICLE story so I'm curious if anyone can figure it out. I don't know how long it took me to make it but it was over the span of 2 days and it was made using my trackpad on my laptop and Gimp. Comments and criticism is appreciated as always, ~Soran Edited January 28, 2016 by Soran
Ghidora131
Wow. You really need to do this more often. (no, I don't mean hit your forehead) This is probably one of the best looking pieces of art I've seen on BZP for a long, long time. The only real complaint I have is the unrealism of the limbs in comparison to the detail of the masks, but everything meshes so well that it's extremely minor. Congratulations on a work of art well done. I'll be looking for more of your work in the future.
Axilus Prime
Very good art, with the shades and edges all lining up perfectly. You did achieve the whole distraught thing and the picture looks sad all around, so...success.
Bonkle
A very nice piece indeed. I happen to like the overall style of the limbs next to the rest of it. The cave area is also very well done. My only real problem is that the heads/masks seem a bit too large to me, especially compared to the torso. Other than that, great job! Quote I been away a long time. I'm still not overly satisfied with the legs but overall I don't think they're too terrible. I'm curious what is it about the arms that makes it unrealistic, would it be the shading, the shape, etc? It definitely is much harder to make a round looking object without gradients (and only 3 colors), which was the main challenge with this so I would say that probably contributed to the overall issues with the limbs. Is it mainly the orange limbs or does this include the feet/hands? Thanks again. Very good art, with the shades and edges all lining up perfectly. My only real problem is that the heads/masks seem a bit too large to me, especially compared to the torso. Other than that, great job! Thanks. The cave area was more or less improvised and last minute so I'm glad it worked out. The head thing I can actually explain from a design perspective and is completely intentional. I've always assumed that the masks that the matoran use are the same as the toa and so their heads would more or less be the same size. This gives matoran these rather large head to body ratio in comparison to toa. Perhaps I could've made them smaller but that's more hindsight than anything else. Thanks again. Thank you guys for the feedback, ~Soran

They bring back a feel that the old G1 parts had to them (how this is, I have no clue, as they're just a sphere with a hole in it) which is really great considering the masks that they are wearing. The hands seem a little too square, though. The arms combine the shaping and the overabundance of holes, which while it isn't necessarily bad, seems to stand out when compared to the detailed torso and masks. The legs don't fit as well, but they fit the design of early 20th century robot concepts, which is bringing back a rush of nostalgia based on the shaping, the shading, and the style of depth perception given to the arm itself. (which, actually, would be pretty cool to see pre-WW1 style Matoran) There's also a story behind this which is based off of the actual BIONICLE story so I'm curious if anyone can figure it out.Onewa had a heart attack, and Soran got there too late. fishers64
The thing that first comes to mind is the death of Lhikan, but I'm leaning toward the idea that the painting was based on the death of Jaller in Mask of Light. Xboxtravis
This should have a *Spoiler Alert* for your comic. Well done piece of work Quote All aboard the hype train!

You're somewhat close to the context with the death of Jaller but that's really reaching in the context of what actually happens. I do quite like both of scenes though, their stories and many others are an inspiration for some of the quests that go on in The Road to Home. This should have a *Spoiler Alert* for your comic. Well done piece of work Yeah, you're probably right. I was tempted to wait to release this painting until you guys were up to this point in the story but to be perfectly honest, judging by the pace the comic is proceeding at, it'll probably take forever unless you guys pick the right directions. Thanks. Thank you. I definitely had some issues with the limbs, specifically the legs. I'm still not overly satisfied with the legs but overall I don't think they're too terrible. I definitely like the shoulders best as well, it's just very clean looking. I can see what you mean by the hands. I didn't make too much of an effort with the hands. The arms were definitely made simply as well to ease on the drawing process, it also was made to look similar to how it looks in the comics. The legs were definitely the toughest part and I'm still not completely satisfied with the design of them. All great points, thanks. Sheesh, spoiler man. ~Soran Edited January 29, 2016 by Soran
