Slizer Dome

(Disclaimer: Due to computer trouble and an incredibly variable work schedule, I may be a bit shaky on meeting deadlines.  I apologize for the inconvenience.)

The year is 1999.  On a faraway planet, warriors known as Slizers use their disk-throwing skills to battle elemental monsters and find precious resources hidden throughout their region.  But this year, a tournament has been announced.  Slizers from all regions have been invited to battle each other, with the one who wins the most matches being named the Champion of the Millennium!

To join, simply say which region of the Slizer planet you live in!  This will determine your elemental affinity, which will come into play in battles.  The regions are: the Fire Sector, the Sub Sector, the Ice Sector, the Urban Sector, the Judge Sector, the Jungle Sector, the Rock Sector, and the Energy Sector.

Signups will remain open for 48 hours—the deadline is Wednesday at 10:30 AM EST!  After that, round 1 begins!

Each round will have two parts, each part lasting 24 hours.  First, you will need to prepare for your match!  You have three options: you can Train your physical abilities, Forge a disk, or Gather the resource found in your region.  I will randomly generate a number 1 through 8, and you will gain a weapon of that level in that category. (Physical Level 5, Disk Level 7, Resource Level 4, and so on.)

Part two is the match!  You will post here stating which weapon type you will be using—Physical, Disk, or Resource—and when the 24 hours are up, I will randomly pair up the names of everyone who responded.  You and your opponent will fight using the strongest weapon you possess in the category you chose (if you possess a Level 3 Disk and a Level 5 Disk, you will automatically be equipped with the Level 5 Disk).  There are several ways the match’s outcome can be determined:

1.Elemental advantage.  If you are matched up with an opponent you have an elemental advantage over, you automatically win the match!  Fire beats Ice, Ice beats Urban, Urban beats Sub, Sub beats Fire, Rock beats Jungle, Jungle beats Energy, Energy beats Judge, and Judge beats Rock.

2.Weapon advantage.  If you each choose a different type of weapon, the one with the advantageous type of weapon wins.  Resource beats Disk, Disk beats Physical, and Physical beats Resource.

3.Weapon value.  If you both choose the same weapon type, whoever has the higher level of weapon will win.

4.RNG.  If you are both using the same weapon type and both have the same value, the winner will be randomly determined.

As an alternative for round 2, you may choose to hunt one of the elemental monsters found in your home region.  If you choose this option, your win count will not increase, but you will slay the monster and absorb its elemental power to become Supercharged for two rounds!  You will have a Supercharge of either +1, +2, or +3, determined randomly; no matter what weapon type you choose, the value will be increased by that number. (But the value cannot exceed 8!) If you are paired against someone with an elemental advantage, the Supercharge will allow you to bypass the element check and determine the fight based on weapons chosen—but if this happens, the Supercharge will expire immediately!  If an odd number of players elect to battle, whoever is left without an opponent will instead fight their respective monster for a Supercharge.

There will be seven rounds in total.  In round seven, the elemental monsters will be replaced with a different option, but more information on that will be released when the time comes!

So there you go!  Calling all Slizers—let’s send the millennium out with a bang!

Players:

-Lenore the Judge Slizer

-fishers the Sub Slizer, 5 wins, Supercharged +3 for the final round

-Luroka the Energy Slizer, 4 wins

-Bonkle the Urban Slizer, 3 wins, Supercharged +2 for the final round

-Nato the Ice Slizer, 3 wins

-ToaTimeLord the Ice Slizer, 4 wins

-Jamie the Energy Slizer, 6 wins

At the North Pole of the Slizer Planet was the Slizer Dome, containing the futuristic realm known as the Judge Sector.  All its inhabitants were now gathered at the arena at its center, the stands around the square field filled not only by them, but by people from every Sector, all chattering excitedly as they waited for the first round to begin.  The crowd fell silent as a brown Bohrok walked out.

“What’s a Bohrok?” someone whispered.

“I don’t know, it doesn’t sound like something we would have on this planet,” whispered another.

“Bohrok totally exist here, which is great because they’re super cool, so don’t question it,” said someone behind them who looked suspiciously similar to a Pahrak Va with a fake mustache.

Pahrak raised one hand dramatically as he pulled out a microphone.  “Slizers and Throwbots!  Welcome to the first annual Slizer Dome battle tournament!”

Cheers erupted.

“Warriors from all around the world answered the call, but only the elite were able to pass the preliminary round.  Let’s give it up for the best of the best!”

The masses roared as seven Slizers walked into the arena in slow motion, drowning out the epic music that was playing (which is kind of a bummer, but I digress).

“Welcome, powerful warriors!” Pahrak greeted.  “Congratulations on passing the preliminary round!  Here’s how things are going to work: you’ll be given time to return to your home regions and prepare however you want before each match.  When it’s time for the match to start, come back here to the Slizer Dome arena and register which weapon you want to use!  We’ll tell you who your opponent is, you fight, and then go prepare for next round.  Any questions?”

Someone raised their hand, and Pahrak squinted at them.

“Knowing you it’s probably a stupid question so I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that.  Okay then!  Go off and prepare, Slizers—just be sure you’re back here in time for the first match!”

The warriors scattered.  Someone in the audience said, “Wait, why did we all gather here just for that?”

No one really had an answer, so they all just quietly exited the stadium.  The Mustache Slizer who was definitely not a Pahrak Va stayed behind, however, nodding as he said, “Wow, I can’t believe we got through this whole scene without a joke about it being 1999.”

Round 1 preparations have begun!  Post your choice of Train, Forge, or Gather before Thursday, 10:30 AM EST!

Round 1 preparations over!

The Slizers of the Energy Sector tended to focus on harnessing the power of their region’s storms, and thus usually overlooked physical skill altogether.  So when Luroka said he wanted to train, his fellow Energy Slizers just rolled their eyes and said they’d find him a master but didn’t.  Alas, when he realized this, all he had time to do was watch a 10 Minute Ab Workout video, which I guess is slightly better than nothing.  Physical Level 1 added to Luroka’s inventory.

Knowing that its people do not understand the way of the brawler, Jamie left Luroka to his fruitless search and ran around punching and kicking everything it saw.  This caused some trouble when it neared a village, but somehow Jamie was able to work its way out of that (hint: it involved its fists), and then went and punched a cloud in its face.  The cloud didn’t even have a face, which was the really impressive part.  Physical Level 6 added to Jamie’s inventory.

Meanwhile, Bonkle was easily able to find scrap metal for making disks along the Urban Sector’s highways.  He booked a session with the Sector’s most renowned forger, but the old Slizer spoke in riddles, so Bonkle had some trouble understanding the procedure.  The disk turned out pretty well, if not exactly what he had hoped for.  Disk Level 5 added to Bonkle’s inventory.

In the Ice Sector, Nato spent his day skiing through ravines in search of Ice Crystals embedded in their walls.  He found a pretty good haul, but was determined to do better—he climbed the nearest mountain, nearly being blown off by the harsh winds, and found one of the purest Crystals he had ever seen.  Then he had to fight off a museum curator who wanted to put it on display, which was simple when he had the power of said Ice Crystal.  Resource Level 7 added to Nato’s inventory.

Nato’s fellow Ice Slizer elected to stay in.  ToaTimeLord locked himself inside his home and turned away all visitors, taking his time as he set about the intricate process of crafting a disk.  He didn’t eat, he didn’t rest, he didn’t spend a second away from the forge for the entire day, and in the end he found himself totally exhausted.  But as he held the disk aloft, he knew his efforts had been well worth it.  Disk Level 8 added to ToaTimeLord’s inventory.

fishers spent the majority of her day eating $5 footlongs, convinced that the sandwiches would grant her the power to smite her opponents with bread and cheese.  It was a while before someone finally told her that the tournament-eligible resource she needed was Air Pearls.  She rushed to the store to buy some, but since most of her money had already been spent on sandwiches, she didn’t have many options.  Resource Level 2 added to fishers’s inventory!

Lenore, however, decided that having the home field advantage would mean he didn’t even need a weapon, and so he just walked around the Judge Sector signing autographs all day.

At the end of the day, each Slizer found a letter on their doorstep: a summons to return to the Slizer Dome.  The first matches were about to begin!

Round 1 battles are on!  Post your choice of Physical, Disk, or Resource, (not much of a choice—you’ve each only got 1!) OR state that you’d like to Fight an Elemental Monster!  Whatever you decide, make sure you speak up before Friday, 11:30 AM EST!

(If you didn’t prepare this round and thus don’t have a weapon to fight with, you are automatically fighting an Elemental Monster.)

Round 1 battles are decided!

The crowds returned to the Slizer Dome a few hours before the matches were scheduled to begin.  They were hoping to beat the traffic and get good parking spaces, but their carrying case spaceships were so bulky that everyone was double-parked and the entire lot filled up in a matter of minutes anyway, forcing many spectators to park a few blocks away.  In their frustration they bought plenty of refreshments, so that’s a win for me.

Pahrak entered the arena again, microphone in hand.  “Welcome back everyone!  Our warriors are ready for their first battles of the tournament, and I bet you are too!  So let’s cut the introduction short and get on to the violence you came here to see!”

However, the only person who showed up was Nato, so no matches could be held.  Nato quickly escaped the arena as a deluge of popcorn and tomatoes rained down on Pahrak.

In another part of the Judge Sector, Lenore landed atop a skyscraper, staring at a living Energy Net growing from another roof nearby.  The Net was aware enough that it detected no weapons, and so it laughed at Lenore.  But Lenore continued to stare, and stare, and stare.  The Net then experienced a sudden surge of power, blasting apart the ring that held it and shorting out its consciousness.  Lenore caught it as it blew into the wind, and wrapped it around himself to absorb its raw energy (which is kind of messed up if you think about it).  So it turns out looks can kill.  Lenore is Supercharged +2 for two rounds!

Jamie decided to remain in the Energy Sector and keep punching things.  Eventually it encountered an Electric Vortex, and the living storm barreled down upon it with all its might.  However, Jamie correctly deduced that punching a cloud that actually has a face in the face is even easier than punching a cloud with no face in the face.  And then Jamie punched the Electric Vortex in the face.  Jamie is Supercharged +1 for two rounds!

Luroka thought it wise to forgo the match this round and followed Jamie to see if he could learn anything more about the way of the brawler (while keeping out of eyesight so that Jamie wouldn’t punch him).  Eventually feeling fired up, Luroka went and found an Electric Vortex of his own to punch.  It took him a few hits, but eventually he was able to absorb the electrical energy, and his fists felt a little more dangerous.  Luroka is Supercharged +3 for two rounds!

After waiting an hour after her last sandwich, fishers went swimming in search of a Giant Jellyfish.  She found one in an ocean trench electrocuting sharks, enabling her to sneak up on it and shove Air Pearls into its body, suffocating it.  fishers resurfaced brimming with elemental energy and carrying a jar of jelly for use on her next sandwich.  fishers is Supercharged +2 for two rounds!

Bonkle was on his way to the Slizer Dome when he realized a Mutant Semi-Truck was chasing him.  Swerving off onto one of the side roads, he led his pursuer through numerous twists and turns, trying everything to throw it off before eventually seeing it slip a bit on a sharp turn.  One precise throw of his disk, and Bonkle was driving home with a shiny new power boost.  Bonkle is Supercharged +1 for two rounds!

ToaTimeLord was too exhausted from his disk-making to make it to the Slizer Dome.  He did have the misfortune of running into an Avalanche Monster, but with a perfect disk in his possession, he was able to destroy it with one half-hearted throw.  ToaTimeLord is Supercharged +2 for two rounds!

Nato eventually returned to the Ice Sector, furious that he had been denied a chance to test out his Ice Crystal.  He went searching for an Avalanche Monster to take his frustration out on, eventually finding one as he skied down a mountainside, and drew upon the power within his crystal.  The monster shattered into powdered snow near-instantly, its remains drifting over the Ice Slizer harmlessly.  Nato is Supercharged +2 for two rounds!

Round 2 preparations have begun!  Post your choice of Train, Forge, or Gather before Saturday, 2:30 PM EST!

Round 2 preparations over!

Luroka decided to take a page out of Jamie’s book and just started punching things.  Of course, he did shy away from the villages and whatnot since he didn’t want to cause any great disturbance, which somewhat reduced the EXP he got, but he actually managed to make up for it by repeatedly punching a wall face.  In the end, they say he carved a tunnel from one end of the Sector to the other.  Physical Level 6 added to Luroka’s inventory!

The people of the Ice Sector were confused when they saw ToaTimeLord enter his train.  Frankly, they didn’t even know what a train was or how they knew to call it a train.  He should probably fix that chameleon circuit.  When he emerged, he went to punch a glacier to prove the results of his efforts.  He…almost cracked it.  Physical Level 2 added to ToaTimeLord’s inventory!

Nato decided to take a different approach.  He found a nearby mountain and started to climb it, taking breaks every now and then to fight bears.  The plan was to reach the top and meditate or something, but he took too long fighting the bears and eventually had to call it a day.  Physical Level 3 added to Nato’s inventory!

Bonkle was still deciding how he was going to train when he saw ToaTimeLord’s train passing through the Urban Sector.  Choosing to investigate, Bonkle jumped onto the top of the train and held on as it accelerated and passed through a space-time distortion.  He came back a changed Slizer.  No one knows for sure what he fought to defend that train, but I’m going to say it was like a million Cybermen and you’re going to go along with that.  Physical Level 8 added to Bonkle’s inventory!

Jamie obtained some raw materials and took them back to its home, determined to make a disk.  Then it started punching the materials into a disk shape.  That’s definitely not the proper way to make a disk.  What?  It actually worked?!  I’m surprised a method like this could produce a disk that’s even this level.  This Slizer world is really strange, man.  Disk Level 4 added to Jamie’s inventory!

fishers went to Subway again, but this time ordered one very large sandwich.  She then took it home and hung it from the ceiling to use as a punching bag.  Normally there’d be a montage now, but montages don’t really work with writing, so we’re gonna have to do without a sandwich-punching montage.  Sorry.  Physical Level 6 added to fishers’ inventory!

Round 2 battles are on!  Post your choice of Physical, Disk, or Resource, OR state that you’d like to Fight an Elemental Monster!  Whatever you decide, make sure you speak up before Monday, 11:30 AM EST!

My arms hurt from fighting Cybermen. Maybe it won't hurt as much if I just throw a disk once or twice.

At least you didn't have to keep your eyes open for 18 hours. Them weeping angles are a tricky bunch to beat, why do think I was on that train for so long. Edited by ToaTimeLord
