Welcome to the discussion topic for Wasteland! This is where all OOC discussion takes place, and also where players must post their profiles for approval. Once approved, profiles will be added to the list at the bottom of this post.

This topic will also be used to keep track of any big events that take place in-game. Take a look for those at the bottom of this post, above the list of approved characters.

Want to make a character? Go ahead! Take a look at the sections below for a profile template as well as information to help you get started:

Profile Template
Name: (what are you called?)
Race: (what type of Matoran are you?)
Gender: (male, female, neither, or other?)
Mask: (you may possess one powerless mask.)
Abilities/Skills: (what are you good at?)
Weapons/Equipment: (what weapons & equipment do you carry?)
Appearance: (what do you look like?)
Personality: (what are you like? List your likes, dislikes, pet peeves, etc.)
Weaknesses: (list any flaws you have. This section is mandatory.)

Matoran Types & Their Passive Powers
Ta-Matoran (Fire): enhanced heat tolerance.
Ko-Matoran (Ice): enhanced cold tolerance.
Ga-Matoran (Water): able to hold breath for longer periods of time.
Le-Matoran (Air): enhanced agility.
Po-Matoran (Stone): enhanced strength.
Onu-Matoran (Earth): enhanced night vision.
Vo-Matoran (Lightning): resistance to electric shocks.
Fa-Matoran (Magnetism): internal compass & good sense of direction.
Su-Matoran (Plasma): eye protection against bright light & limited heat tolerance.
Ba-Matoran (Gravity): resistance to gravitational pressure.
De-Matoran (Sonics): enhanced hearing.
Bo-Matoran (Jungle): innate understanding of plants & resistant to poison.
Fe-Matoran (Iron): enhanced endurance.
Ce-Matoran (Psionics): resistance to mind control & telepathy.
Av-Matoran (Light): able to instinctively alter armour colour.
Shadow Matoran: not permitted to play. Shadow Matoran profiles will not be approved.

Equipment & Weapons
Your character wakes on the sands with nothing. Therefore, any equipment and weapons they possess must have been scavenged from the Wastes, or made with scavenged materials. Advanced technology is nonexistent, and basic tech is unreliable.

Weaknesses
All characters must possess a minimum of one legitimate weakness or character flaw. Perfect characters are no fun to interact with, and they quickly become boring to play (trust me). Your character doesn't have to be paralysed from the waist down, but should have some flaw more hindering than an allergy to chocolate. Below are some examples, but feel free to come up with your own!

Some examples of appropriate weaknesses
Easily influenced by others.
Gets tired quickly.
Easily influenced by emotions.
Hot-headed.
Poor vision.
Missing left hand.
Doesn't know how to fight.

Rules & Guidelines
This RPG is largely sandbox, with character allowed to go and do whatever they like. That said, there are a few things to keep in mind:

i. All BZP rules apply.

ii. Play fairly. Coming up with new equipment or skills out of nowhere, dodging or blocking all attacks, and dishing out absurd amounts of damage are all examples of godmodding, which is no fun for other players. Getting your hands on functional weapons and equipment should be difficult; simply pulling them out of your back pocket is frowned upon. (Remember: this is a Wasteland. It's not supposed to be easy!)

iii. Keep in-character and out-of-character knowledge separate. This is an important distinction to make: your character's knowledge is separate from your own knowledge as a player. A Matoran living in the Settlement won't be aware of another Matoran discovering a haven beyond the mountains unless someone comes back and tells them.

iv. Play your own character. You may control some NPCs to a degree, but leave player characters to their owners, unless you have their permission. This is especially important in combat: you do not decide whether your attacks land; that is up to the player of your opponent.

v. Use the acronym 'IC' (In-Character) when speaking as your character, and use the acronym 'OOC' (Out-Of-Character) when speaking as a player in the game topic. This helps to distinguish between character knowledge and player knowledge.

vi. All profiles must be approved by staff before playing.

Staff
There's currently only one staff member, and that's me, Eyru. Your profile must be approved by me before you can play. If you have any questions about the game, you can post them here or send me a PM, and I'll be happy to help.

Current Events
The status quo reigns.

Name: Moega
Race: Fa-Matoran
Gender: Male
Mask: Powerless noble Matatu.
Abilities/Skills: Exceptionally strong, for a matoran. Athletic, and good fighter.
Weapons/Equipment: Makeshift axe. Very rusty. Also has a scavenged satchel, that he carries around.
Appearance: A worn black colour adorns most of his armor, the rest is what may have once been a metallic colour, but it is too rusted to tell exactly which. His mask is also black. Very big, and muscular. Taller than most. He bears a scar on the back of his head.
Personality: Friendly, if a little over confident. Doesn't like to talk about the past very much.
Weaknesses: Isn't the most agile, very prone to falling over. Isn't particularly smart, either.

This will probably be the only character I end up making...

Name: “Revenant”
Race: Onu-Matoran
Gender:
 Male
Mask: Powerless Crast
Abilities/Skills: Good Memory, Pragmatic, good at fixing small objects, Night Vision
Weapons/Equipment: Revenant wandered into Canus with what appears to be a large nail, crudely fashioned into a makeshift dagger.
Appearance: The first thing you’ll notice about Revenant is his armour, or more specifically, lack of it. His entire body has been stripped down to a weathered grey skeleton, with exposed gears and thin muscle holding everything together. Revenant wears a ragged cape that protects his most vital organs from being damaged.
Personality: Revenant keeps to himself mostly, He rarely speaks, due to having damaged vocal cords, but he’s mostly a gentle person. Due to his bad experiences out in the wastes, he has gained a fear of them, and will avoid leaving Canus whenever possible.
Weaknesses: Due to lacking a majority of his armour, Revenant is incredibly frail. Even so much as a single strike from a fireball could kill him. Because of this, he rarely ventures out the settlement alone.

Full Name: Torpaq

Gender: Male Race: Onu-Matoran

Equipment:

  • Powerless Kanohi Rode, mask of truth

  • A dirt and rust-encrusted metal rod found on his way to Canus - can be used as a crude weapon

Powers:

  • Like all beings of Earth, Torpaq has enhanced night vision

Physical characteristics:

Torpaq is around average height for a matoran, and is clad in a dusty grey armour, a similar shade to the bleached colour of his surroundings. His eyes, however, are bright with a keen interest, and glow a pinkish red - as does his circular heartlight. His mask and form is mechanical-looking, while signs of rust and decay have begun to set in.

Weakness: Though he is as quick as he is quick-witted, Torpaq has no formal combat training, and is as physically weak as any matoran.

Mental characteristics:

Torpaq is an explorer, bold and ambitious, and possessing of an insatiable curiosity of the world around him. He is decisive and independent too, his actions goal-oriented and purposeful - he is determined to finish the job. Internally he has doubts, but externally acts as a reassuring friend or a resolute enemy.

Weakness: Torpaq can be judgemental internally (although he rarely shows it), and is quite materialistic.

Biography:

Torpaq awoke with no memory, back to a grey desert and face to a grey sky. Remembering only his name, he trudged across this wasteland towards Canus, bewildered by everything around him. Upon reaching the settlement, he questioned the locals as to the nature of the world around him, learning a little more of this strange land.

Allegiances: The villagers - with them lies the best chance of survival and of solving this puzzle

Alignment: True Neutral

Name: Mina
Race: Av-Matoran
Gender: Female
Mask: Powerless Great Huna
Abilities/Skills: She can alter the color of her armor at will, and has taken to using this power to camouflage herself while out in the Wastes. To accompany this, she's becoming quite adept at moving both swiftly and silently through the rough terrain of the desert.
Weapons/Equipment: A short staff with a thick blade lashed to the end of it. Carries a threadbare satchel and a small canteen.
Appearance: Mina is slim, and short for an Av-Matoran (but of average height to everyone else). The majority of her body is snow-white, while the pauldrons and gauntlets are, surprisingly, the only pieces of golden armor she possesses. She always wears a grey, patchwork cloak, and keeps her arms and legs wrapped in strips of cloth to keep out the dust and sand. Her eyes and heartlight are yellow-gold.
Personality: Kind, quiet, motherly, inquisitive. She is slow to anger unless the right buttons are pushed. Mina would never willingly harm another being, and strongly believes that all life is precious. She can be mischievous at times -- but never goes overboard -- and loves making people smile. Life in Canus has made her a bit melancholy, though she tries to maintain a positive attitude around her fellows. Whether or not she can keep it up is another matter.
Weaknesses: Basic self-defense is the closest thing she has to any sort of combat skills, which is not particularly useful in a true fight. Her compassion could also be exploited.

Name: Krahno
Race: Le-Matoran
Gender: Male
Mask: Powerless Kiril
Abilities/Skills: Particularly fast and agile, strong endurance while running
Weapons/Equipment: Nothing but a 20 foot coil of many pieces of string and canvas found in the wasteland tied together. Always comes in handy!
Appearance: Thin and wiry, average height of a Metru-Nui style Matoran, rusty dark green armor and mask
Personality: Friendly and social, willing to poke fun at anything in a lighthearted way. Slow to anger and easily forgiving. Prefers to live in the present, feeling that what happens in the past shouldn't have too much of an influence on what is happening now.
Weaknesses: Extremely weak. Basically no upper-body strength whatsoever. This has led to him intentionally avoiding any physical combat and is therefore inexperienced in it.

NAME: Keoni

SPECIES: Female Po-Matoran

MASK: Powerless Hau with a Kaukau visor instead of the norm.

TOOLS/WEAPONS: A metal pipe which has been split down the middle on one side. A roughly sharpened metal plate has been jammed into this to form a simple metal axe.

APPEARANCE: Keoni has an above-average height for a Matoran of any standard. Powerful, thick legs and hips. Her body and arms are a dusty tan color, while her legs, hands and mask are a greyed orange-brown. Keoni' body armor is unusually thick, but only on the chest, shoulders and shins. Everything else is surprisingly under-armored, as if whoever built her focused on some parts and ignored everything else. Her body armor has a fairly high-rising metal collar attached. The visor on her mask, it's appearance an odd mix of Hau and Kaukau, keeps dust and debris out of her eyes.

PERSONALITY: Keoni is quiet, but not timid. She simply doesn't go out of her way to socialize, unless she needs to. Keoni is willing to help others if she trusts them enough, but only ever if they ask for her help or if the situation necessitates it. While not unintelligent, Keoni's sentences are short and often simply worded, either because her vocabulary is poor, she likes giving a false impression or because she doesn't like talking too much. Like most Po-Matoran, Keoni doesn't put much stock in what she can't see or touch.

WEAKNESSES: Keoni has a lot of weight to throw around in a battle, and some solid armor. However, this weight can be used against her. In addition, other places on her body aren't very well armored. She also isn't very good at puzzles.

Torpaq is approved.

Mina - the Toa Code doesn't exist here, and if it exists wherever Mina came from, she wouldn't remember it. But it's fine for her to have a strong belief in a moral code that precludes killing. Remove that bit about the Toa Code and you're good to go!

Krahno and Keoni are both approved.

Name: Aurelius.

Race: Fe-Matoran.

Gender: Male.

Mask: Powerless Hau, with a few slight aesthetic modifications.

Abilities/Skills: As a Matoran of Iron, Aurelius is more physically durable than others.

Weapons/Equipment: He wields a battered shield made up of layered plates and panels of metal, and a short sword, jagged and notched in appearance. He also wears a tattered bandolier, which he uses to carry any items of interest that he finds during the day.

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/SUUsGR7.png

Personality: Despite his thuggish appearance, Aurelius is a pretty friendly guy. Warm, encouraging, and willing to lend a hand to anyone who needs it.

Weaknesses: Although he’s not exactly a dumb brute, he’s still not the brightest mask in the forge, and his helpful nature often leads to him being taken advantage of by others.

____________________________________________________________

Name: Elara.

Race: Ko-Matoran.

Gender: Female.

Mask: Powerless Rau, reshaped to resemble a helmet.

Abilities/Skills: As with all Ko-Matoran, Elara has a high tolerance for extreme cold.

Weapons/Equipment: Elara’s weapon of choice is a makeshift staff cobbled together out of various scrap materials, blunt on one end with a configuration of hooks, spikes and blades on the other.

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/cyaZqRw.png

Personality: Convinced that someone within the village must know the truth about what’s going on, she’s extremely distrustful of the other villagers, and prone to caustic sarcasm and petty insults.

Weaknesses: Her attitude has left her something of an outcast among the other Matoran, often leaving her in dangerous situations during her solo explorations of the wastes. Being white, her armour also makes it difficult for her to be stealthy.

Ayo.

Name: Gapori

Race: Ce-Matoran

Gender: Male

Mask: Powerless Pakari

Abilities/Skills: Resistance to mind control and telepathy, surprisingly durable and agile, good at running away.

Equipment: A crude shiv manufactured from rusted scrap metal, and a small cloth pouch.

Appearance: The wasteland’s been hard on Gapori. His blue and gold armour has been worn down to a mix of grey and silver, often hidden beneath a tattered brown cloak. He looks tired and fed up yet he’s often seen with an uneasy smile and an alert, wide-eyed glare. He's taller than the average Matoran and retains an athletic physique, his cracked yellow heartlight being the only thing truly broken beside his mind.

Personality: Gapori's an unhinged young man, a true cynic fuelled by stress alone. He’s not afraid to express himself, so he can be dramatic, sarcastic and strongly opinionated as a result. Despite the erratic front, he’s still a hopeful guy with some redeeming qualities, chiefly his resolve. Many find him hardworking, a good friend sometimes, and though he may act like a sissy in the face of danger, he’ll face it head on when it needs to be done.

Weakness: Volatile, anxious, socially awkward

Name: Agonos
Race: Fe-Matoran
Gender: Male
Mask: Powerless Hau
Abilities/Skills: Digging, Sifting
Weapons/Equipment: Moldy Rucksack, Hand Spade, Broken Sifting Screen
Appearance: Agonos is a shorter Matoran, with slightly abnormally long arms for his torso height. His mask, torso, hands, and feet are a dark purple, while his limbs are a bright gray; however, a dusty brown color is spotted throughout from his digging activities.
Personality: Curious, Thoughtful, Tired
Weaknesses: Non-Combative, Unobservant

Name: Dessimus
Race: Su-Matoran
Gender: Male
Mask: Powerless Kraakhan
Abilities/Skills: Rather strong, and a combat master. He rarely stops thinking about his surroundings.
Weapons/Equipment: Metal  torso armour, tattered poncho, very simple mechanical lower arm with mildly rusted blade; it grips when elbow is extended fully, and a extremely tight latch on the underside slides the "fingers" in and exposes the blade.
Appearance: Slightly shorter, wide shoulders, superficial rust covering the armour. No lower right arm; mechanical device takes its place. Poncho is a dark tan, and is littered with tiny holes from acid rain. Kraakhan and remaining hand are black.
Personality: Dessimus is incredibly blunt, hard, and brave. His face shows no sign of past anger, so his former life must have been a happy one. Irritated by the metal attached to his arm, he is constantly in a state of pessimistic, cold-hearted

reasoning. Despite this, he has managed to make a name for himself around the incredibly small group of Matoran, and is often seen discussing issues with Maru.

Weaknesses: Unfortunately, Dessimus has one major weakness: sand. Sand in his eyes, sand on his skin, sand pretty much anywhere within fifty yards of his person. Although it could make for an epic movie shot, Dessimus despises the grainy material as much as acid rain. He has learned to tolerate it on his legs in order to walk, but if a sandstorm was to catch him, he'd go mad with rage. Having a missing portion of his limb has given him a slight boost in his other arm, but he is overcome with depression due to its loss at times.

Also, I noticed all the IC start-ups have been a first arrival, but in the planning topic you said you wanted players to start as if they had been there. Is the former correct, and should I edit?

Name: Arid
Race: Su-Matoran
Gender: Female
Mask: Powerless Akaku
Abilities/Skills: She's an expert marksman able to strike a target 8 bios away 8 out of 10 times in the best condition, and is also good at maneuvering in the sands.
Weapons/Equipment: A tattered cloak that works well except in extreme conditions, and a handmade wrist mounted slingshot made of scraps parts, and a crude knife made out of a piece of metal with cloth wrapped around a portion of it to function as a handle.
Appearance: She's a slender Matoran in orange and white who wears a sandy tan cloak. (Image will be soon drawn.)
Personality: A sharpshooter with a sharp tongue. She often finds herself in verbal or physical conflict with others. But when she isn't trying to actively get into trouble, she's a responsible person, and often goes out of her way to help out around the town.
Weaknesses: No actual hand-to-hand/melee combat skills. Sometimes acts hurtful whether intentionally or accidentally.

It's been way too long since I've played in an RPG, but I think I can try this again.

Name: Fulmen

Race: Vo-Matoran

Gender: Male

Mask: Powerless Great Kakama

Abilities: As a Vo-Matoran, he is resistant to electric shocks.

Weapons/Equipment: As of 4/5/2016, he has nothing on him.

Appearance: The Matoran has a sand blue mask, hands & feet along with a metallic blue torso, with his arms & legs being white.

Personality: Like most Lightning Matoran, Fulmen is sociable & works well in a team.

Weaknesses: Fulmen is not a skilled fighter; his punches are weak, the sight of blood makes him squeamish & his footwork is rather clumsy.

Would it be alright to have a group of rebel Toa? Kind of like what happened in the Toa Empire?

Like Wolverine said, you can only play as Matoran. Read up on the main topic's story and etc. to get a good understanding of the game.

Either is fine. You can choose to have your character arrive with their first post, or portray them as having been in the Wasteland for awhile. Regardless, all player characters will still be relative newcomers to the Wasteland.

Would it be alright to have a group of rebel Toa? Kind of like what happened in the Toa Empire?

At the present time, only Matoran are available to be played. :)

Name: Toku

Race: Po-Matoran

Gender: Female

Mask: Great Akaku

Abilities/Skills: enhanced strength, pretty handy with her trident, and pretty decent at tinkering, as well as crafting makeshift tools out of whatever's lying around. Within reason, of course. By extension she's a pretty good scavenger.

Weapons/Equipment: Trident, serves as weapon and walking stick. Crude crowbar. Makeshift bandoleer for carrying small object.

Appearance: Patchwork plates of copper and gunmetal cover mottled brown and tan limbs.

MOC: http://i.imgur.com/ra6kEgZ.png

Personality: Surprisingly optimistic and upbeat considering the harsh conditions, friendly, never turns down people in need. An explorer at heart, she often finds herself out in the wastes looking for.... well anything, really. Every piece has a story, and every story is just waiting to be found.

Weakness: while capable of defending herself, she's not an expert fighter, and her friendly nature can be taken advantage of.

Name: Yegg
Race: Fe-Matoran
Gender: Male
Mask: Powerless Huna
Abilities/Skills: A skilled jumper, snooper and thrower of rocks. Enhanced durability due to his elemental affinity of Iron, when querried as to this he insists the toughness he exhibits is due to "trying harder," rather than his genetics
Weapons/Equipment: A small knife in a leather sheath and a rudimentary sling
Appearance: Suited in a potpourri of mahogany and lead colored armor and standing a little shorter than most of his peers, Yegg is wiry and scroungy with the carefully cultivated and worn look of an honest, hard working fellow
Personality: A scammer, scumbag and backstabber through and through, Yegg would gladly sell his mother out for a good drink or a spare handful of barter goods
Weaknesses:
Impulsive, easily irritable, spineless at times and has a very hard time sticking to long term plans

Name: Zavarix

Race: Bo-Matoran

Gender: male

Mask: Powerless Komau

Abilities/Skills: Zavarix is a skilled observer, taking note of everything. He also has a very good visual memory.

Weapons/Equipment: Zavarix carries a rusting iron rail and lump of charred wood that he found in the wasteland shortly after his awakening.

Appearance: Zavarix's armour was blue and green at some point, however its colours have since faded and been worn away by the sand. He is average in size and his eyes have a tired but undefeated look to them.

Personality: Zavarix is kind and gentle, but has built up an icy exterior. Though willing to help others, Zavarix quickly came to realise that to survive he must put himself first, so avoids the company of others when at all possible. Being relatively antisocial anyway, this outlook on life does not bother him and while others are telling stories, Zavarix sits and listens, trying to pick out any information that may help him survive.

Weaknesses: Zavarix is either incapable of or chooses not to speak, which naturally causes some problems. Though quiet by nature, his complete inability to communicate verbally means that while others scavenge for things to trade, Zavarix must also search for materials he can write on, as well as something to write with. He is also easily angered and has been known to act irrationally when he lets his emotions get the better of him.

Heh. Would've posted this a lot sooner, but I wasn't done.

Name: Skoll

Species: Su-Matoran

Gender: Male

Mask: Kakama (Powerless)

Abilities/Skills: A decent fighter, since not much fazes him. He dabbles in fixing things, to a very small extent. Normal Su-Matoran abilities (low heat resistance, bright light resistance).

Weapons/Equipment: None.

Appearance: His bronze-orange armor is obviously old, but kept shiny by polishing. Or it was polished regularly, until recently. The other color of his armor was white, but now has a tarnished appearance due to the sand and grit of the wastelands. His eyes are a bright but pale blue, contrasting with his slightly dull appearance.

Personality: Skoll is, in a word, courageous. He hates to back down from a challenge, and views survival here in the wasteland as one such challenge. Though he has this competitive nature, he often does things alone, perhaps to avoid getting distracted. He is calm and respectful, and appreciates this attitude from others as well. He likes to watch the sun rise and set each day.

Weaknesses:
Has poor survival skills.

Nearly always gives people the benefit of the doubt.

Does not yet have anything usable as a weapon.

*Note: The spear in his "Appearance" photo is not in his possession.

Toku is not approved yet. Lightstones do not exist here, and she also has a few too many pieces of equipment. Of a trident, an axe, a crowbar, a bandoleer, a satchel, and a telescopic lens, I would pick two. Preferably not the telescopic lens, as it's a bit of a complex piece of equipment to start off with in the Wasteland.

Yegg, Zavarix, and Skoll are approved.

I figured the lens was just part of her mask from where ever we're from that came before this.

I didn't know about the lightstone thing, though, I'll make changes.

Name: Bolu

Race: Ba-Matoran

Gender: Male

Mask: Kakama

Abilities/Skills: Bolu can traverse the wastes with relative ease, thanks to his strong endurance. He can talk most beings down from conflict. Pretty strong for a weakened dweller of the Wasteland.

Weapons/Equipment: A small backpack used to carry his loot from the Wastes. A rusty climbing axe, more useful for digging than climbing. Some frayed rope.

Appearance: An taller-than-average matoran with sun-bleached black and purple armor. His hands and feet are tightly wrapped in dirty, torn cloth. He wears his backpack almost all the time.

Personality: Bolu is composed, calm, and peaceful. His cheer is in stark contrast to most of the matoran around him. He seeks only goodwill between his fellow Waste dwellers, and is inclined to mediate and negotiate when conflict arises. Hope drives Bolu through every day, but this hope has yet to be rewarded.

Weaknesses: A bit too trusting. Not inclined to combat.

If you wait until the last minute, then it only takes one minute.

Unless things have changed, I believe there was a one-character limit.

Jasisu is approved!

There is no official character limit, although I'm of the opinion that it's better to play one character very well than to play three characters well. Those who choose to submit multiple profiles are expected to play all of them to the best of their ability. :)
