Hapori Tohu
LEGO Community Team Dude Kevin Hinkle passed on word to the Ambassadors from the LDD design team:
LDD will be updated on Jan 17th, to reflect the closure of DbM [Design byMe] and LU [LEGO Universe]. Since we are not constrained by the bricks available in either the picking location for DbM and the game for LU, we can broaden the amount of bricks available. People will still have the same possibility to document and share their LEGO models; we will substitute the DbM and LU themes with 2 LDD specific themes working in the same way, just with more bricks. Since the users can no longer order the model through DbM, we will add a list of bricks in a given model to the generated HTML building guide; that way people can use the list to find the bricks they need to build the model physically.
More bricks sounds good to me, although it's still sad that you won't be able to buy your creations anymore. I hope the interface is improved so it will work with laptop's touchpads in addition to mice. Gatanui
With this update, I am really not sad about the end of DbM anymore. PaB was far better priced anyway, and we now even get a brick list we have wanted for so long so we can order them seperately. This is pretty good news, actually! Now we also know for sure LDD will be continued. I guess there will be one theme for pieces that actually do exist for order in that colour and one other theme where you can give any kind of brick (even those you can´t order) any colour from the palette.~Gata. Dark_Stranger
The new version actually sounds cooler than the one we have now. Here's hoping it has plenty of Bionicle / HF 2.0 pieces."That is not dead which can eternal lie, / And with strange aeons even death may die." GeluNumber1
This sounds fun. But will I have to re-install LDD to get the new bricks? Hope not... Quote Why are orange and black such a good color Combination ? Purple is pretty, and so is blue. Pink hurts your eyes, green is quite mellowing, black is very threatning, red is cool, orange is SO awesome, yellow's hard to read... But you can't see white at all! Oh, wait. I forgot brown. Here's my thoughts: If a person tells the truth and says, " I always lie," Is he lying? Or is he telling the truth? And what has a mouth, but no head, and a body, but no torso? Do caterpillars like to tend to supporting colum of stone's every need? Or is that name misleading by nature? Speaking of nature, why are the children of animals called offspring? don't many young beasts come alive in spring, and thus, should be called onspring? Heeeeeeyy..... I got the first post on a page for the first time. Who knows; it may happen again. What the... It did happen again... and again... YEAH! I'M ENCOUNTERING PROTODERMIS! Aanchir
The second new mode will probably just be LDD Extended mode, which is pretty much an enhanced version of LEGO Universe mode. Although not unlocked by default, it exists on the current version of LDD and has the widest parts palette of any mode. It does indeed have several BIONICLE parts, but not enough to build many complete sets. The one to replace Design byME mode will hopefully still have limitations so the parts exist IRL. That will be easiest for younger users who want to build models that can exist in real life, and yet don't have prior experience with the LEGO color names or with online databases showing part availability. ~Xemnas~
This is good to hear. We'll hopefully get some HF 2012 parts, and maybe some more Bionicle parts for LDDExtended. That would be nice... Quote BZPRPG Profiles Ghosts of Bara Magna Profile
Vorahk1Panrahk2
If I'm reading it right, it still means models are constrained to bricks/colors that exist actually exist. I suppose that's not a bad thing. If the piece selection is nice I might even go back to dabbling in LDD. Quote BZPRPG Profiles

Freddy Mallins
This is great. Or rather, it would be if my laptop were able to run LDD. Unfortunately, because of RAM and graphics restraints and whatnot, I'm forced to use older programs like MLCAD for my digital MOCing. Obsessionist
Great! This is what I've wanted from LDD all along, just a digital deisigner without insane parts restraints.
xccj
Oh man, I've been wanting LDD to list the parts in the models for ages. I guess they didn't previously include it because they wanted people to just order the parts from them, and not get the parts from other sources. (Which is what I like to do. ) It is a shame that the business aspect didn't do so well, but LDD is a great program, and I'm glad to hear that they're going to keep it going.
