Canon VS Non-Canon

Recommended Posts

Generally, everything has some degree of canonicity, but the books and comics are meant to be regarded as the ultimate authority. The sets are said to be the most accurate depictions of the characters, and the books and comics are developed by the members of the story team, therefore having the closest ties to the intended story direction. This applied to the online serials, as well, even though Greg had a little more "free space" with them.

Movies are second in line, and then games and other material comes last.

This all depends about the subject of your question. G1 or G2? They both have at least some ambiguity.

In G2 especially, we have the graphic novels, the chapter books, the 2015 animations and Journey to One, all of which cover different points in time (there is some overlap with the chapter books, but I'm basing this off product descriptions so I don't know the details)

As far as I know, there is no official word on what the canon priority is. Does JtO supersede the books, etc? We may never know.

As for G1, there is a bit more clarity.

In terms of story details, the list is as follows:

1: Greg. Greg Farshtey (through direct sources such as the 'Chat with Greg' thread on the Lego Message Boards) has ultimate power, unless his words contradict stuff he said previously. However, this still supersedes all other tiers.

2: Books. The chapter books and encyclopedias are the next most canon source, and this includes web serials published on bioniclestory.com.

3: Comics. The visual designs are not-so-canon, because they are based off of the sets, but the story is canon unless contradicted by the books.

4: Movies. Because all the movies got novelizations, the movies themselves only serve to fill in the gaps and give us a better idea of what the characters look like, although descriptions in the books are still more accurate.

5: Semi-canon sources such as the MNOG and MNOG II. Certain parts of these are considered canon while others aren't.

Sometimes, I look at my desk, and think, "What am I doing with my life?"

Then, I go back to my videogames.

I used to be known as 'Gresh's Thornax...Ouchy!!!', before I realised what a silly name it was.

Other previous names include Lihkan435 and Chip Biscuit.

Chip has pretty much outlined how the fans view things, but Greg tends to rate the movies as the highest canon just based on how much effort goes into making them and the fact that they take center stage. But then you get into things like Jaller and Takanuva's revivals, amongst other things, and they really are in the bottom canon tier. The rule of thumb is basically how much involvement Greg had determines how strongly canon something is.

Well, Jaller's revival is canon and alluded to in the novels, it's just Takanuva's apparent resurrection that's ignored.

But MoL also had Lewa seemingly controlling plant matter and Gali with psychic levitation powers, soooo...
