HF RPG 2.5: Discussion

@The Invisible Noob, Gyro has just done a sweet propeller trick into the subway, in pursuit of the assassin. He's got a reasonable head start from being in the area and being able to fly after the assassin, but Flames might be able to catch up or at least keep up, depending on how fast he is and/or how advanced his parkour skills are.

Oh, you didn't have to edit it! It was fine how it was. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it wasn't. Gyro's pretty tall for a Hero, so he could be an easy figure to spot in a crowd, assuming a good number of them are the size of the average Makuhero City resident.

Just gonna... drop this in here and see if it's acceptable now. Re-did Var from scratch and pretty much cut the ship down to its bare bones.

Name: Var Vilandris

Character Type: Villain

Abilities/Equipment: Var Vilandris has, compared to her own species, enhanced strength, agility and speed, with quick reflexes to top it off. This puts her strength somewhere on the lower end of the hero strength scale, but on the higher end of the speed, agility and reflex scale. Her physical durability, how ever, is in no way enhanced, meaning she's extremely vulnerable to physical attacks from heroes.

She is attuned to the cosmic force that flows through and binds the galaxy, and this grants her an enhanced awareness of her surroundings, as well as a mild telekinesis ability, which allows her to levitate objects, although only up to half the weight she could physically handle. She carries a plasma sword with a white beam that works much like Gorn's and is not overpowered.

Appearance: Var is a female of a human-like species. Her skin is pale, albeit healthier looking than before, and the bold red highlights in her hair have all but faded, leaving her black hair to mostly show through. Her eyes, previously yellow with a red rim, are now a dull amber colour. She wears rather ragged clothing, a pair of dark grey cargo pants, black boots, a dull brown tank top, and a dark brown leather jacket over it. She also wears dark grey gloves and a white scarf around her neck. She also has black goggles to protect her eyes that she otherwise wears up on her forehead most of the time to see better, only deploying them as the situation requires.

Bio: A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Var was trained as a Dark Warlock. She was at some point in time displaced from her home galaxy, and thus arrived in this one. Here, she made it her mission to spread the teachings of the Dark Warlocks that she herself was taught all that time ago. But six months ago, after the Mechna incident, she seemed to lose motivation to continue this cause. She began to maintain a low profile and made a new life for herself as a bounty hunter. Slowly but surely, her conviction to keep to the dark teachings has faded away. She now seeks mostly to make a living in this new galaxy and try not to attract too much trouble.

Name: TIE Incursor Starfighter
Ship Size: Very small one pilot fighter ship
Pilot: Var Vilandris, R4-V0
NPC: The ship has a slot for the ship's astrodroid, R4-V0.

Communications: The fighter has a universal communication system.

Navigation and Drive:
The cockpit has a 160° view horizontally, and a 145° view vertically. It has a hyperdrive, allowing it to travel faster than light, although precise calculations are necessary to deliver it to its destination without any unfortunate occurrences such as crashing into a planet or a star. Var's R4 series astrodroid, R4-V0, handles these calculations, and is very quick at it most of the time. It has Galaxynet access like many other ships in the galaxy, added in on the recommendation of a mechanic she referred to when fixing her ship.

Weapons & Armor: Being a ship designed around manoeuvrability and speed, its armour plates are very light, albeit somewhat durable. The cockpit's transparent cover is made of a durable transparent material that is almost as durable as the armour plating. The ship is well armed, with medium-yield energy blasters on each wing, as well as a low-yield blaster mounted under the back end of the ship.

Propulsion: The TIE Incursor’s propulsion systems are high powered Twin Ion Engines, along with manoeuvring thrusters at key points on the ship which help it to take swift turns while in combat. It can accelerate very quickly, and has a high atmospheric top velocity.

Landing: The fighter can easily land on any surface large enough to support it.

The main problem I'm seeing is that she's still got enhanced strength, enhanced speed, enhanced agility, and enhanced reflexes. In other words, she's perfect and superior at literally everything, with no apparent weaknesses.

According to his profile, Kaiba's only increased traits are his strength and speed, whereas Var has enhanced everything.

Var's baseline is a human-like species. Aka weaker than heroes. Her "enhanced" strength simply puts her closer to their levels. Note that she has no enhanced durability, meaning sticks and stones can break her bones. Or, you know, a good punch from a hero. Which means she needs that enhanced speed and agility to not get hit all the time, and enhanced reflexes to actually use those to any effect.

You should probably put that in her profile somewhere...

I mean, you did say she's of a human-like species, but you didn't specify if that species has human stats or Hero stats.

Much better.

Var Vilandris Approved 1/3

but I'll be keeping my eye on the speed, reflexes, and agility thing. No dodging an earthquake.  :P

EDIT: Forgot the TIE, that's Approved 2/3

As a note for any future occasions, it'd probably be a lot easier to just say the character has "hero-level attributes" or "has comparable stats to the average hero" or something, rather than giving us "enhanced everything" with no initial baseline to go off of.

That said, I guess Var Approved x2. And her TIE Approved x1.

Var approved (3/3), but please remember to keep to the restrictions outlined in the profile.

Her ship is also approved (3/3), but that 'somewhat durable', for clarity, won't be meaning "super durable". I'm reading it to be slightly below average to average, which is implied by the insistence in the profile that the ship is built for speed.

Since I'm no longer playing, I figured I'd toss down a mission that I was planning (it's basically a canon rehash but I thought it would be fun to explore in an RPG setting) alongside a new planet.

I'd like to officially submit the planet for approval since I like to pretend that it's a cool location; if anyone wants to alter and/or use anything from the mission, they can feel free to do so, though I should note that I never finished planning it.

---

Mission Title: “The Doom Box” (Final Title Pending)

Locations: Makuhero City, Tantalus 5, Antropolis City, Eclipse Station, Raxus

Canon NPCs: Stormer, Stringer, Core Hunter, Arctur, Geb

Canon NPC Profiles

Name: Stormer

Character Type: Hero

Abilities/Equipment: For this mission, Stormer has been retrofitted with specialized “XL Armor”. The XL Armor is twice as durable as a regular Hero armor, and increases Stormer’s height and size to twice that of an average Hero as well. His strength, speed, endurance, and agility have all received similar upgrades.

He has been armed with a power sword and a plasma blaster, as well as five recon drones that can be controlled remotely to observe locations. The recon drones are not armed for combat, although they do each have an explosive self-destruct sequence that can be initiated in a tight spot.

Appearance: XL Armor

Bio: He is a no-nonsense sort of hero, and is very loyal. Stormer dislikes theatricality, but is courageous and level-headed in battle. He is known for being especially hard on new team members; some prove able to take it, while most are transferred to other squads. He is highly competitive, and enjoys his position of command; on a good day, he might admit that he can sometimes be set in his ways. Stormer is also very quick to anger, a flaw that he has been lucky enough not to be exploited by; however, his need for perfection has been exploited in the past, and it still remains one of his most glaring flaws.

Name: Stringer

Character Type: Hero

Abilities/Equipment: Stringer carries his Mega Decibel Sound Blaster; it can shoot strong bursts of sonic with precision, or be used blast a wider but weaker sound wave.

Appearance: Breakout Form

Bio:  Stringer is more relaxed than Stormer, though still loyal and courageous. Unlike Stormer, he does not feel pressured to go out on missions all the time, though he’ll often join the Alpha Team when they go out regardless. At this point in time, Stringer has been assigned to guarding prison transports, as captured villains are moved from the Factory to Tantalus 5.

Name: Core Hunter

Character Type: Villain

Abilities/Equipment: [Please stick to one/two main powers and one/two minor abilities, and keep it simple – a character might fly and shoot fire (main powers), but also be designed for speed and endurance (minor abilities). Other weapons or equipment of note should be reasonable; a bunch of small throwing knives or dual swords is good, two giant warhammers would be bad.]

Appearance: [MOC, picture, or written description of the character will suffice.]

Bio: [Who is your character? What is their personal history and background? What are they like to be around? Do they have any hobbies or interests? If they’re a Hero, what missions have they been on? If they’re a Civilian, what is their job like? If they’re a Villain, what sort of crimes are they responsible for?]

Name: Arctur

Character Type: Villain

Abilities/Equipment: Has the ability to teleport anywhere in the galaxy, as well as create a force field in front of him (although while doing so, he is left completely vulnerable from the back). Sometimes wields a glowing axe.

Appearance: A green reptilian being, whose features are mostly obscured by his hooded black cloak.

Bio: To the galaxy and Hero Factory, Arctur’s history is a complete unknown. Thousands of years ago, he helped to create the “Doom Box”, but destroyed it after realizing that a critical flaw kept the device from being deactivated. He split the Doom Box into three pieces and scattered them across the galaxy, killing the others involved in the Doom Box’s creation so that it would be safe from villains – but he did not count on one of the creators carving a map that would lead Core Hunter right to all three pieces…. Arctur has also taken on a pacifist view, and will only enter combat as a truly desperate last resort (one he typically can avoid simply by teleporting away).

Name: Geb

Character Type: Villain

Abilities/Equipment: Geb himself has no special abilities or equipment; however, he is guarded at all times by two retrofitted Heroes, both of whom lost their cores in combat near Eclipse Station.

Appearance: This, if Zib were black & red instead of white & blue. Geb is often clad in a form-fitting tuxedo.

Bio: Geb is one of those rare villains that has managed to successfully evade Hero Factory for his entire career, by the sheer simple fact that he is smart and cunning enough to leave no evidence of his involvement in any crimes or villainous plots. Geb started as a cleaner at a station/hotel, and worked his way to manager after the 'accidental' falling of the previous manager down the stairs, twice, and his career expanded from there. He currently manages both a storage warehouse and a hotel on Eclipse Station, where villains are free to hide away anything they like (including themselves), free from the wrath of Hero Factory. During his time on Eclipse Station, Geb has also retrofitted two former Heroes to serve as his personal guards.

Original NPCs: Geb Drones

Original NPC Profiles

Name: R1 (“Arwun”) & R2 (“Artoo”)

Character Type: Villain

Abilities/Equipment: Each is armed with two short swords; otherwise, they are both of a standard Hero Factory build.

Appearance: Both Drones Here

Bio: Once, both Drones were Heroes of the Hero Factory. At some point in the past, however, both fought and lost against villains nearby Eclipse Station, losing their cores in the process. They were recovered by Geb, who had both retrofitted with black and red armor and armed with two short swords. He then had them reactivated as mindless drones programmed to obey his every command, and they have served as his personal guard aboard Eclipse Station ever since.

Description: [brief description of the mission – what’s happened already, why Hero Factory has been called in, etc. (this briefing will be what goes in the topic).] >> never finished this

Full Overview: [Full outline of what you plan to do for the mission. Obviously you won’t be able to predict exactly how players approach certain issues, but do your best to give us a rough idea of what you have planned (this is for GM reference only, and will not be added to the topic).] >> never finished this

Objectives: [(optional). If your mission is going to include objectives, list them here.] >> never finished this

The planet:

RAXUS

Millennia ago, Raxus was mountainous and green, with beautiful sparkling lakes – not unlike Tantalus 5. Home to a peaceful people, Raxus was located at a critical intersection between seven different planetary systems, growing rich from the trade and commerce with the various systems. Its magnificence was famous throughout the galaxy, and it was not unheard of for many to journey to Raxus to ask for blessings in one of the seven Great Temples on the planet as a rite of passage.

These seven Great Temples represented the seven traits those who made their home on Raxus held most dear, believing them to be the qualities of a true leader. Mercy, Courage, Strength, Justice, Wisdom, Loyalty, Truth, and Compassion. Towering hundreds of feet, the Great Temples were taller, larger, and more magnificent than any other buildings in the galaxy; symbols of the eternal harmony and good fortune of Raxus and the planetary systems that bordered it.

Unfortunately for Raxus, the different systems began to grow discontented with each other. As one system grew in prominence, the others would fall; and thus their conflict began. At first, it was simple sabotage; freighters lost in the middle of space, a governor or two vanishing in the night. But as trade suffered, the conflict continued to grow, until the seven planetary systems turned to all-out war.

Raxus, located in the middle of them all, suddenly became a key strategical location of enormous value; for if one system controlled Raxus, they might begin to control trade, and through trade, control the other six systems. Thus the War of the Seven Systems arrived at the planet’s front door – and the peaceful, faithful population of Raxus was thoroughly unprepared for the utter destruction that the war would bring.

For three years, the people of Raxus lived with the sight of ships blowing each other to pieces in the sky, the wreckage slowly spreading across the entirety of the planet. It was not until what would become known as the infamous Battle of Compassion, however, that the governing body of Raxus began to actively involve themselves in the war. During the Battle of Compassion, three of the seven major fleets all fought fiercely above the site of the Great Temple of Compassion for six days and nights, until all three fleets were all but destroyed entirely; the battle ended with the mega starship Hammer Born crashing down to Raxus… and reducing the Great Temple of Compassion to a pile of rubble in the process.

Calling in aid from the outside, the governing body of Raxus had a superweapon constructed in the Great Temple of Mercy; within weeks of its completion, the planetary system that had controlled the Hammer Born disappeared in the blink of an eye, and was never seen again. With Raxus itself now the new seventh face in the war and armed with a weapon capable of wiping out an entire system, the planet became a frequent target for attacks. One by one, it wiped out each of its opponents, until only Raxus remained; but in the aftermath, left without the trade and commerce that had supported them for so long, those left on Raxus found themselves stranded, left to slowly starve.

Within ten years, the society of Raxus collapsed into a civil war – one that ended when one side used a biological weapon that went out of control, destroying itself even as it killed all life on the planet; both sentient and plantlife. It was left a barren graveyard of a planet, its entire surface littered with the destroyed remains of millions of ships and hundreds of cities; only the six remaining Great Temples still stood, but even they were heavily damaged and scarred from the wars.

In the thousands of years since, Raxus has been the site of many battles, both in space and down on the planet itself, as different parties seeking to destroy their enemies have clashed in fruitless attempts to find the superweapon that Raxus had used to end the War of the Seven Systems. None of them ever succeeded, and every single battle fought on or above the planet inevitably led to the downfall of all parties involved, until the planet was finally left alone by the galaxy at large, believed to be cursed.

Now, only the bravest of villains and looters ever visit the planet, searching for supplies; but none of them ever stay for very long – and none even dare to think about entering the Great Temples, which still stand.

Yeah, sorry about that. I promise, you're going to be on the move very, very soon, don't worry. Gyro will send the info to the Heroes once he has a revelation on what is actually happening in his situation. It'll take maybe one or two posts after this one.

Again, sorry for the wait, everyone! I can't really speak for Nato, who did a lot of the grunt work for this mission, but from what I understand (I may be wrong), the mission was an experiment in having a more open, free exploration mission, and something got mixed up on the way. Hopefully once we get on our way to the Skywhale Starwhale, everything will pick up pace and there'll be less waiting around for one person. Thank you to everyone for your patience!

Quick question: how are the Heroes finding the Villain ship so quick? I'm not asking for edits or anything, I just realised they're all just suddenly surrounding it and I feel like I missed something.

Same way everyone knew where Gyro was when we needed to group up, our feeds are all being monitored by zib, so that will inevitably include our gps position. That and I mistakenly assumed Gyro had included the ships make and location in his email, which he might not have so sorry about that mistake.

Oh! The GPS thing is fair. Gyro wouldn't have included his location in the email, since he didn't want the others coming over, but absolutely no edits are required on this because like I said, the GPS thing is legit.

Well, Thak originally made it a group call of sorts so the other villains could hear, and I don't think he changed it. So probably, yeah, so long as he has a communications device. As for hearing it without a communications device, he probably can't hear it very well, unless he has super good hearing.

Oh, whoops. sorry. Whipcrack would be able to hear it if he's got good enough hearing to be able to hear the other end of the phone call from wherever he's standing. So, probably not unless he has really excellent hearing. He'd have a better chance hearing tone and voice, but might have trouble making out words.

Just wondering, how can Thak tell that what he's seeing are Heroes? I thought "Hero Core", but most robots would have some manner of power core, and besides that one is an Ice Hero and might have a lower temperature to the others. And one is absolutely radiant with heat. So you essentially have three figures with three different appearances with heat vision.

I guess it depends how high of a resolution the heat vision has. If it's really high, never mind. Though he might be in some pain if the tiny ball of sun that is Flames appears too bright on a monitor through non-Euclidean means, or something. He can't be too hot normally if he's not, you know, melting himself and everything around him, but since there's a Fire Friend in him that is a spooky Lovecraftian monster of some description it could be giving off that kind of reading. I guess Hero Factory would have found it already if that were the case, unless it's emotion triggered.

I thought about this for far too long.
