In case anyone's interested how these entries got here: The top three entries voted by the judges were the winners (and will be announced at the end of this poll). The next five with the highest amount of votes were chosen to put in this poll (so the same story could not win both Judge's and People's Choice) -- however, the 5th and 6th highest entries were tied, so we decided to put them both in.Anyway, good luck to all the finalists! newso1.png

So these aren't actually entries 1-6, these are 4-9, yes?

Exactly. It seemed the best way of our not-very-many not-very-good options. These entries have to go through an additional elimination round, so that will make them more deserving of their slots alongside the judged best.

(despite a few typos I missed; may I ask for permission to correct them?).

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the rest of the entries? Not chosen for either the Judge's choices or the People's Choice poll? I'm not sure if this would be allowed in the other topic instead, but just a question.

On the day the wall came down / They threw the locks onto the ground

And with glasses high / We raised a cry / For freedom had arrived

 

On the day the wall came down / The ship of fools had finally run aground

Promises lit up the night / Like paper doves in flight

 

I dreamed you had left my side / No warmth, not even pride remained

And even though you needed me / It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

 

Now life devalues day by day / As friends and neighbors turn away

And there's a change that even with regret / Cannot be undone

 

Now frontiers shift like desert sands / While nations wash their bloodied hands

Of loyalty, of history / In shades of grey

 

I woke to the sound of drums / The music played, the morning sun streamed in

I turned and I looked at you / And all but the bitter residues slipped away

From the group of entries that you're talking about, 33 entries, there will be five or so Honorable Mentions, but beyond that, alas, they won't get any official recognition. Hopefully every story got at least one decent review, and if not the writer can post it to the SS Critics Club.- 55555

Wow, this was really fast. O.oI recognize three of these entries that I've already read; I'll be sure to read the other three before I cast my vote. Though, I'm a little disappointed that I'm not seeing a few other stories up here... I hope they made it into the top three (or an honorable mention at least).Good luck everyone, and an early congrats to the three winners (Which is kinda moot because we have no clue who they are, so they can't be congratulated, but you know. XD)! ^^

I rather unashamedly voted for my own entry, "All Our Sins Remembered", but I'm just glad to have gotten this far along in my first SS contest.My second choice was difficult, but I'm rather partial to "All That Glitters" and probably would have voted for it had I not made it into the poll. They're all great entries, though, by some talented writers!Good luck to all who entered, and may the best writer win! :happy:

Well, I hope I got 1-3 if that's 4-9 :D . I voted for Ignition, I was thoroughly impressed with all the inner conflict and the story. It was a hard choice between that, Dreams of Darkness, and Divided We Fall. They were all great, but I don't like nulling. I can't wait to see the end results!

...clearly my story was better received amongst judges then amongst the members. :P But amongst entries like Ignition, I can't blame y'all. XD That three way tie up there is intriguing though, I considered going back on my null to select All That Glitters, as I think it's my favorite of those bunch, and you need a tiebreaker. :P Doesn't really seem fair though, so I'll pass on it.

Finally read every entry. This is a really good batch of stories and I really enjoyed them all! For me, the contest was between Ignition and Divided We Fall. I ended up voting for Divided We Fall, it was just beautiful and I thought it fit the theme of the contest the best.Really great stories here, and I look forward to seeing the top three (though, I seriously doubt mine could beat these entries. O.o I can't wait to read the winners!) Good luck!

While I liked things about all of them, I went with To Trap A Tahnok. Here's my (somewhat subjective) reasoning:Dreams of Darkness: Quite well-written, but too dark for my taste. I don't think I like horror. Also, I thought the description of the body was a bit too grisly. There's also some continuity troubles (like, the Metru could never have possibly gone to Karzahni, and I don't think he can shapeshift), but I don't really mind things like that. It's poetic license.All That Glitters: Nothing was resolved. What was Vitram doing? What role did the Dark Hunters actually play in all this? Who is the murderer? We never really find out. I understand that's the writer's goal; I just don't like it. And I didn't like Vitram dying. I don't think he deserved it...All Our Sins Remembered: I didn't really understand her backstory at all, but it's a good story. I liked it; I just preferred Tahnok.Ignition: Well-written, again. I liked how the characters were portrayed, especially Dume as the politician/dictator. But the ending spoiled it for me. Nuparu shouldn't have turned it on. I think it would have been better if he had tried to stop Dume and failed.To Trap A Tahnok was my favorite. I liked seeing Matoran win their own battle, I liked the portrayal of Kopaka, which I thought was fairly accurate, and I liked the writing. The grammar/spelling was mostly fine (except for a few typos and jumbled sentences near the beginning) and the writing and imagery were pretty good. For a man who seldom belts out a short story, I'm actually surprised I made it to the public top 5/6. A funny aside here at the moment: The number of votes for each story is fairly analogous to each story's length. Anyway, good luck to the other finalists. Enjoy your "eternal glory" winners. =)-Ced

For me, it came down to "All That Glitters" and "Ignition." "Ignition" is a very well written rondo, but something about "All That Glitters" keeps drawing my mind back to it.atvan mentioned the "cop-drama-yness" and I can see that; I can see how it could come off as contrived. For me, though, it made for a very fun read whose pace was not slowed by excessive detail and description. That is not to say it is not well written; it is, but it is a simpler style, one that fits well.And yes, I quite enjoyed the twist on the title.

Very difficult choice between Dreams of Darkness and Ignition. However, the horror story won in the end. So I voted for it. Not too disappointed to see Ignition in first, though.
