His Quest

Vezon shall Return

Recommended Posts

This is a short epic that retells of the story of Takua and his quest to find the Toa stones. There are some changes in it to make it more interesting and to help build some character in my own interpretation of the story. Most of the content is and will be based off "the Quest for the Toa Stones" from Biosector01. I will appreciate any feedback. Here is the review.Note- This was slightly revised. Mainly grammar mistakes.Introduction: BanishmentTakua was a Matoran who lacked the sense of a strong work ethic. He was supposed to be “guarding” a side entrance of Ta-Koro. Though due to the absence of anything exciting, Takua left his post to explore a cave away nearby. Meanwhile, Jaller was inspecting the guards and when he got to where Takua was stationed he quickly realized he was not there.Jaller shook his head and spoke under his breath, “Why am I not surprised… I tried to keep him out of trouble, but once again he chose to ignore me.” As he finished speaking he heard the sound of a large rat Rahi and saw it coming closer to the entrance. With that Jaller shouted out the alarm with his horn and several guards came to his call and launched disks at it while about four other Matoran, including Jaller, held a spears to push the beast back. After half a minute of getting hit the Rahi backed off as its left paw was mildly harmed. After the attack, Turaga Vakama immediately summoned Jaller to his hut.Vakama spoke to Jaller in a firm tone of voice, “Jaller, how did that Rahi come so close to our village? Who was the guard who failed his duty and where is he now?” Jaller shrugged and paused for a moment then responded, “It was… Takua… he left his post. I’ve already sent some guards to find him and bring him back. Sir, I am sure he had a good reason for...”Vakama silenced Jaller with a firm hand gesture and did not speak for a few minutes gazing into the fire pit and then spoke in a soft voice, “Jaller I am aware you are a loyal friend of Takua. However, he must be held accountable for his actions. Now please go. Bring Takua to me.” With a slight bow Jaller turned and left Vakama’s presence in search for Takua.Meanwhile, in a cavern near a river of lava, Takua was casually wondering around and admiring the scenery without a care in the world. Suddenly, he heard a clicking sound behind him and he turned to find a fire scorpion hissing aggressively at him.Takua panicked a little and took out his guard spear in defense. The Rahi hissed again and then lunged at him with its tail but Takua dodged it and while attempting to back away from the creature, but it continued to follow him. Then it got close to Takua and nocked his spear out of his hands with its claw and just as it was about to strike him a disk flew and hit its head. With that the beast turned and ran.Takua look over to see two Ta-Matoran standing before him. “Takua you have directed orders to return to Ta-Koro. Vakama wants to speak with you right now.” Takua looked a little confused and stood up saying, “Uh… okay.” The three Matoran began the way back to T-Koro.With a very firm voice Vakama spoke to Takua saying, “Takua, I sentence you to be hereby banished from the village of Ta-Koro until I believe you are ready to return. This punishment is for your lack of obedience by leaving your post that you were assigned to guard. It is because of your disregard of proper work ethics you shall not return unless you prove yourself not only to me, but also yourself. There is no more to be said. Jaller please escort Takua out of Ta-Koro.” Jaller, who was next to Vakama, was grim and turned to bow to him. Jaller then escorted Takua out of the village.Takua looked at Jaller and said, “Jaller, look I am sorry about what happened… I just got bored so I began to wonder around and…” he was cut short by Jaller, “Listen Takua, I don’t want any more of your excuses. Vakama’s right you need to learn that we all have a duty and it must be taken seriously. Ta-Koro was almost infiltrated by a rather dangerous Rahi because of your ‘lack of discipline’. That was a reckless move, someone could have got hurt or worse.”Takua couldn’t help but feel guilty and responded, “You are right, Jaller… somehow I will make it up to everyone I promise.”Jaller smiled a little and said, “Hey maybe you’re not hopeless after all. We shall see.”Once they were on the beach Jaller looked at Takua and said, “Takua take care of yourself. Oh, I almost forgot. Take this short blade, you may need it.”Takua took it while nodding, “Thank you Jaller. You know where to find me.”Jaller smiled and said, “It shouldn’t be too hard. Good bye.” Jaller then turned and left Takua near the beach. The next few days involved Takua wondering around the beaches of Mata-Nui. He eventually ended up near Onu-Koro where heard footsteps behind him. He turned, and to his surprise, saw Jaller walking towards him. Takua called out, “Jaller! What are you doing here? How did you find me?”Jaller shook his head and said, “It wasn’t that hard, you have become somewhat predictable lately and considering you are probably the only Matoran whose red and blue.”“Oh, yeah that helps.” Takua said sarcastically.“Anyway, Takua I was given word from Onu-Koro that Whenua is in need of your help.” said Jaller eagerly.“My help?” said Takua, a little unsure.“I suggested you when I was at Onu-Koro for a very important meeting. Whenua brought up a matter of importance and I suggested you. This is your chance to prove yourself to everyone and please… as a friend. You should do It.” replied Jaller as he placed his hand on Takua‘s shoulder.Takua paused for a moment and then spoke, “Alright, I shall do it… whatever this task… thing… is.”“That's good to hear. You should get moving. However, I will not be joining you. I must return to Ta-Koro and deliver some important news to Vakama. So here is a map of Onu-Koro, a lightstone and there’s a cave that leads right to it.” Spoke Jaller as he pointed towards a sandy path that leads to a cave.“Why did it have to be tunnels? I hate tunnels…” mumbled Takua.“It’s Onu-Koro, they live in caves. Just go…” said Jaller impatiently.“Alright, alright, I’m going. You better be right about this.” said Takua reluctantly. With that Takua said his thanks and parted Jaller to Onu-Koro. Little did Takua know that this was his first step of a grand adventure that will change everything on Mata-Nui.

Note- This was slightly revised. Mainly grammar mistakes.Chapter 1: Troubles in Onu-KoroShortly after departing with Jaller, Takua began his journey to the cave Jaller pointed at, it wasn’t a long distance. Along the way Takua encountered a Bula berry bush, which provided nourishment and gave him energy. He kept some bula berries for later. He then continued down sandy pathways that lead to Onu-Koro’s stone gate. It was a large structure with a sign stating “Onu-Koro”. Takua entered the cave with caution, for he has always distrusted caves and felt uncomfortable in the dark.As he crept in slowly with his lightstone in hand, he heard a noise behind him and jumped back with his small sword in hand ready to strike. To Takua’s surprise, it was an Onu-Matoran slightly startled by his reaction. The villager spoke, “Whoa! Take it easy stranger. It’s just me, Tehuti. I was sent by Onepu, captain of the Ussalry. I was ordered to guide the one named Takua to Onu-Koro. Are you this ‘Takua’?” asked the villager with a grin.“Yes.” said Takua with uncertainty. Not sure what he was about to get in to.Tehuti continued, “This is good, I was wondering when you were going to show up. Come with me. I’ll explain everything I know.”Takua listened and began down the tunnel with Tehuti. “Alright, I was told by Onepu, who was told by Jaller, that you are a very ‘capable’ friend of his. So when it comes down to it you ‘sound’ like the right guy for the job. In any case, I believe Whenua may be in trouble and Onepu needs your assistance. Oddly, he wouldn’t tell me anything… any questions?”Takua responded slowly and hesitant, “Yes… how ‘capable’ did Jaller say I was?” Tehuti laughed and shook his head saying, “I was told you had a sense of humor. Don’t worry your do fine, besides whatever you have to do can’t be that bad… or can it?” Tehuti stopped to think a little and then shrugged his shoulders loosely and continued his way. Takua muttered under his breath, “Jaller, this better not be the death of me…”The two travelers finally came to the main entrance to Onu-Koro, the village of earth. It was a large dome with several stone huts scattered inside. In the center was a stone shrine called a Suva. It was dedicated to the earth spirit they call Onua who is said to come when the time is right with the other spirits of nature to bring peace to Mata-Nui.Takua was marveled at the earth village, for it was vastly different than Ta-Koro. Takua and Tehuti entered into Onu-Koro, but were stopped by the two guards with sturdy gestures of their spears. One of the guards spoke, “Tehuti, who is this?”“This is Takua, Onepu requested me to bring him here.”“Very well, you may pass. Also, before you go. It has been announced a few hours ago that Whenua was confirmed to be missing. Onepu has already sent out search party and have returned not too long ago. They must bring news.”“Thank you. Where is Onepu?” asked Tehuti.“Onepu is in the Turaga’s hut and has not left yet.” responded the second guard.“Thank you. Takua follow me.” Takua did as he was told and the two came to Whenua’s hut, which was near the Suva shrine. The two went in to find Onepu surrounded by a few Onu-Matoran who appear to be debating what to do.“We can’t remain doing nothing any longer. Onepu according to the returning Ussalry scouts, Whenua has been found deep within the mines, imprisoned by a rock creature.” said a very concerned Onu-Matoran.Onepu responded to his man sternly, “I am aware of this. However, all efforts made by the Ussalry to get near the beast have been proven too dangerous. We need a solution that doesn’t involve the death of one of us. Whenua would never approve of such action.”“So what are we to wait for the beast to grow tired and leave? It is obviously sent by the Makuta to hinder us by taking him.” responded another one of Onepu’s men a little panicked.“Calm down men, Tehuti should be here with Takua. He’s good friend of Jaller, he might be able to help us.” said Onepu. Suddenly as he finished his statement, Tehuti and Takua entered the doorway.“Tehuti, I am glad to see you and this must be Takua!” exclaimed Onepu who walked over to meet the two. “Well, here he is. So what now sir?” asked Tehuti curiously.“Well, let’s start with him. Takua, we need to find a way to safely free Whenua from a dangerous Rahi. Do you have any suggestion?” answered Onepu.Takua unassertively responded, “I am not sure what you have heard about me… but I am not sure I can help you or not… Although, I can see what I can do.”Onepu laughed with his deep voice and slapped Takua’s back and said, “How modest of you. Tehuti set him up with an ussal crab and send him to Whenua’s location. In the meanwhile, the rest of you continue to think of a solution.” Tehuti bowed and took Takua to a stall full of ussal crabs, which were the steeds of the Ussalry.“Takua, I’ll let you choose one.” said Tehuti as Takua paused and looked that them, he then chose a rather friendly looking one who was slightly smaller than the other Ussals.Tehuti responded, “Oh that one? I think you might like her. She may be a retired racer, but still very friendly and reliable companion. Her name is Pewku.” Takua turned and thanked Tehuti as he was given a map that marked Whenua’s location and took Pewku to investigate the situation.Takua rode off to where Whenua was captured deep within the mines, not really sure on what he was going to do once he got there. Regardless, the Onu-Matoran seemed to think he was some sort of miracle worker or something.“They must have got the wrong idea from something Jaller told them” thought Takua. Despite the possible misunderstandings of who Takua really was. He was determined to find a way to rescue the Turaga. It was a strange feeling began to emerge within Takua, a feeling of adventure that was driving him to move out of what was comfortable.Along the way Takua noticed a strange fruit on the ground that appeared to have been left behind by a Matoran. He picked it up and discovered it was a Madu fruit, a fruit that had explosive properties when hit upon impact.“The miners must use these to help to help create their maze of tunnels or destroy a wall. This could be useful, better keep it safe to not ignite it.” Takua whispered to himself as he placed it into his back pack and continued his journey.Takua finally reached his destination and saw a group of small pebbles moving together as one small rock creature. He looked around to find that there were several of these things patrolling around a larger rock creature. The large rock creature was guarding a cage containing Turaga Whenua.Takua then slowly dismounted from Pewku behind a rock to hide her. Takua then slowly crept towards the rock beast known as the Vatuka, a Rahi whose body is made completely out of rocks that hovered around to form a semi-humanoid form.Takua observed the beast from distance and saw on the other side of the Vatuka what looked like Vakama’s Firestaff, his Badge of Office, stuck in the wall. Takua stealthily made his way to it not to disturb the small pebble creatures that skulked around the large room.It was a little difficult to see with only a few light stones peeking through the walls and ceiling.Takua finally made it to the staff and found that it was Vakama’s Firestaff. He then pulled it from the rough stone wall. This alarmed some of the small creatures nearby and they started to rush at him. Panicked, Takua unwittingly activated the Firestaff and a flicker of light spat out of the staff stunning the small creatures.Takua opened his eyes and saw what happened. “I get it. They get must get stunned from heat and light. This explains why it lives underground… or something like that?” thought Takua to himself. Takua then spoke to himself, “I have plan.”Not sure what exactly was happening the Vatuka began to walk towards Takua as he was stunning the little pebble creatures with Vakama’s Firestaff.Seconds later the Vatuka was upon. However, Takua just smiled and charged forth with Firestaff in hand. Unexpectedly, the Vatuka simply nocked the Firestaff away before Takua could activate it and lunge Takua head first against a wall. Although, impact did not hitting his back pack. Now in pain, Takua slowly stood up while clenching his left arm that was mildly injured. Then he suddenly remembered the Madu fruit he found earlier. With that thought in mind, he took it out and tossed it with all his strength with his right arm. It hit the Vatuka head on and exploded, shattering the creature into pieces of stone fragments. With the destruction of the stone beast, a strange orb of energy (known as an Amana Volo Sphere) appeared out of the defeated Rahi. Takua slowly reached out and touched it. The energy abosrbed into him and healed his injured arm. “Well, that worked out better than I expected… Pewku, here girl!” shouted Takua to his faithful companion with great optimism.Pewku’s eyes peeked from behind a large rock and then rushed to Takua cheerful. Takua with Pewku walk towards Whenua and the Turaga spoke, “You must be Takua. I thank you for your bravery. There is so much to be discussed, but that can wait. At the moment this cage only unlocks when two weights are placed on those two panels.”So Takua looked round for something heavy, he found a stone that could work. He then pushed it onto one of the panels and then he and Pewku stepped onto the other one and the cage opened. Turaga Whenua walked out.“We must return to Onu-Koro, I have a lot to tell you.” said Whenua.“Very well, Turaga.” Said Takua and they both mounted on Pewku and rode back to Onu-Koro.Takua felt a good about how things went, but could help but wonder if it was mere luck or something else. Nevertheless, this was only the beginning of his quest and his destiny.Shortly after departing with Jaller, Takua began his journey to the cave Jaller pointed at, it wasn’t a long distance.
