LEGO Goes to Middle Earth

Recommended Posts

I have to admit, I did not see this one coming. A decade after the movie adaptation of the Fellowship of the Ring hit the silver screen, LEGO and Warner Brothers have teams up to release Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets. This is some amazing news and I'm sure there are going to be a ton of happy fans today. I know I'm one of them. I sincerely look forward to Toy Fair in a couple months where hopefully we'll get our first glimpse at these sets. There's a target="offsite">teaser site up now, and you can read on for the full press release.

Three words: Best. Idea. Ever. Why didn't Lego think of this sooner? I really want to see a Helm's Deep set, as well as Bilbo's hobbit hole. Oh, and Aragorn's epic undead army. Those minifigs will be sweet.-don't touch my pocket protector

Three great comedies at one low, low price....NOTHING!

Three late-middle age matoran think of something they want to do before they kick the bucket.

Aw man. This is just about the coolest idea ever. Oh, to be young again, I would totally enjoy this, when I spent my money on such incredible things. Alas, those days are behind me, too many years too late, I'm afraid. But yeah, this is completely awesome.signoff.png

Yeah, you know I'm excited. I've more or less anticipated this day for years. Lego better deliver the goods with more gusto than they did for Pirates of the Caribbean. LotR should rival, even surpass, Star Wars sets in terms of awesomeness and design. I can't wait to see what June 2012 holds in store for us with these new sets.

OHYES! Epic on so many levels! Actually, in my opinion, this has the potential to be bigger than Star Wars if done right. I can just see an ultimate collectors edition of Mina's Tirith. Weathertop will be exquisite, and THE ENTS!!! I almost forgot the ENTS!

Fist Pump!!!I never thought I'd see lego do this! I thought Lord of the Rings was too adult, too serious, too violent, but Lego's making Lord of the rings sets! Yes!!Elves and Dwarves and Aragorn and Ents, and Sauron and Gandalf and that Rohan armor and orcs... I might start seriously buying some sets here. Wow.Sadly, I have a bad feeling the sets will be as exciting and good as the Pirates of the Caribbean sets, and last just as long.

I am officially excited. It doesn't hurt that I just watched Return of the King. My mom jokes that we won't get any elves though. Y'know, cause he's Legolas. (Lego-less. Legolas. Get it? Yeah. Blame my mom.)I just can't wait for next June.EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Why are orange and black such a good color Combination ? Purple is pretty, and so is blue. Pink hurts your eyes, green is quite mellowing, black is very threatning, red is cool, orange is SO awesome, yellow's hard to read... But you can't see white at all! Oh, wait. I forgot brown.

Here's my thoughts: If a person tells the truth and says, " I always lie," Is he lying? Or is he telling the truth? And what has a mouth, but no head, and a body, but no torso? Do caterpillars like to tend to supporting colum of stone's every need? Or is that name misleading by nature? Speaking of nature, why are the children of animals called offspring? don't many young beasts come alive in spring, and thus, should be called onspring? Heeeeeeyy..... I got the first post on a page for the first time. Who knows; it may happen again. What the... It did happen again... and again...

YEAH! I'M ENCOUNTERING PROTODERMIS!

In previous years, Lego's response when asked about a Lord of the Rings line was that it was too violent. Have their values changed?I'm sure I would've been thrilled about this just over ten years ago, but with almost every Lord of the Rings character/location/event having been illustrated by the FOL community already, I doubt it'll be mindblowing. I could be wrong of course.

How could they let that license slip by with The Hobbit coming to cinemas next year? Also, LEGO´s relationship with Warner Bros has greatly improved this year, so I guess that influenced the decision as well. The Lord of the Rings was one of the best movie sagas ever, and I am very excited to see the sets. I hope they are pulled out well.~Gata. ;)

Well, about the adult, serious, violent part, I would say that you could say the same about LEGO Pirates of the Carribean, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Prince of Persia.....But then why can't there be LEGO Zombies? :sarcastic:But this will be epic, anyway. I had heard a rumor about there being a LEGO LoTR video game, so............ Hopefully......I also agree on the part that it might stay just as long as LEGO Pirates of the Carribean (I hope it will stay for a while though.).

I seance that these sets may face some some of the same problems that Pirates of Carabian and Indiana Jones had. Unlike the Lego titan Star Wars, Lord of the rings is not vehicle based. I think Lego will have a difficult time making affordable sets based on the locations that feature prominently in the movies.

That is all

I wouldn't say it's any worse than Star Wars, Prince of Persia, some of the later Harry Potter stuff, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. Guess they realized that.

I would say it is, quite considerably. In Lord of the Rings, Boromir gasps in agony as he's repeatedly shot with arrows, Lurtz has a limb sliced off followed by his head, Haldir is stabbed then hacked as he falls, and severed heads are catapulted into Minas Tirith. What equivalent is there in the movies you mentioned?Note that this is all realistic violence too, not magical or science fiction.

Well, the first Indiana Jones had people's faces melting off, and the second had the whole "tearing a guy's heart out" thing. The second to last Harry Potter movie/last book had the scene where Hermione is tortured. Revenge of the Sith had Anakin lose his limbs and get severely burned, and A New Hope had Obi-Wan hack that guy's arm off in the cantina. Prince of Persia wasn't too bad, but still wouldn't call it a movies for kids (although the source games were considerably darker).
