Kidz Bop Covers "The Weekend Whip" for LEGOLAND Florida

Recommended Posts

Earlier this month, LEGOLAND Florida announced a strategic partnership with Kidz Bop, a long-running music brand that publishes covers of popular music performed by kids and is a frequent sales leader among kids' albums. Some of the fruits of that partnership emerged today in the form of a

of the LEGO Ninjago theme song "The Weekend Whip" to promote the park's brand-new Ninjago world (which opens January 12th). In the video, the Kidz Bop kids join ninja heroes Kai and Nya at LEGOLAND and show off some moves kids can use on "LEGO Ninjago: The Ride". Follow the links above for more details on the partnership, or read on to watch the video!

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. As someone who's been to the park lately, it's not very surprising - LLFL has long been excessively geared towards kids at the expense of other LEGO fans. The stores in the park have had Kidz Bop recordings in rotation for some time now. I remember being offended by a kid-unfriendly Justin Bieber hit during my last visit.

Have we had headlines for other recent change-ups in LEGOLAND Florida partnerships? There have been some big ones in the past year, such as Pepsi being replaced by Coca-Cola, and Cartoon Network ending their sponsorship of the park (they didn't renew it after the end of the Chima and Mixels cartoons).

Edited to reflect that I only know about sponsorships at the Florida park. For example, Coke was still a partner in California while Pepsi was a sponsor of the Florida park. That was why the two Miniland New York Times Square scenes didn't match when the Florida park opened (replacement billboards for gaps left by Cartoon Network and Pepsi had not been installed when I visited the park in November - when I asked a master model builder about it, I was told they'll be designing new ones on-site soon).

I haven't made much effort to report on other LEGOLAND partnerships or events unless they involve some kind of new LEGO-related material. In this case I felt a music video of the Ninjago theme song featuring Ninjago costumed characters and Ninjago-themed park attractions was sufficiently LEGO-related to be newsworthy. If the Coca-Cola partnership involved, say, a Coca-Cola branded set or minifigure being introduced in the gift shops, I might have considered it newsworthy, but otherwise it's not really connected to the "LEGO" side of the park's identity. Likewise, we have basically ignored covers of songs like "Everything is Awesome" unless they touch on the songs' LEGO roots.

And of course, the BZPower news team only reports on news as we become aware of it. So if you ever do come across news that you think is both noteworthy and LEGO-related, by all means, send it in!
