Defiantly? What? Made me think of the following:

HERE, THIS SEASON MAKES ITS FINAL STAND! SEE NOW THE SPADES OF SORROW THAT THE TIDES OF TIME WAGES AGAINST OUR TEXT-BASED RPG, THIS SIEGE SHALL END BY OUR WILL, AND WE DEFIANTLY OPEN OUR GATES OF DOOM AND LET LOOSE A FLOOD OF STEEL AND SWORDS AGAINST ....THEM!

blade mentioned that I usually give updates on the episodes and I guess she's right so here's a teaser while I continue working on...

He met Kit Lurrun at the border between the Ice Region and Water Region.

Kit was prevented from replying when a Protector of Ice that FF did not recognize lunged out of the shadows. They swung a sword at Kit’s neck and FF cried out in alarm; Kit turned and dove out of the way, dodging the strike by mere inches.

“Who are you, assassin, and who is your employer?” FF asked, trying to sound intimidating while staying out of their reach.

The Assassin did not respond, and instead moved to strike at Kit again. Before they could, FF leaped forward, attempting to tackle them to the ground. They wrestled together for a few seconds before the Assassin easily overpowered him and tossed him aside; FF saw stars as his head smashed into the rock. Forcing back a wave of dizziness, he grabbed a rock and made to stand and attack again.

EPISODE THREE

“As Strong as Stone”

-STONE REGION-

-LORD SHADOWVEZON RAQMU-

IC: ShadowVezon (All), Kelotu (All), Pohatu (All)

“Take this to his grace in the Ancient City as quickly as possible,” ShadowVezon ordered, handing a message to the nearest guard. “I wish to give him some prior warning before we make the announcement official.”

“Of course, your grace,” the guard said, bowing and hurrying away.

“Your grace?” a voice asked.

ShadowVezon turned to the speaker, recognizing the Earth Guardian Kelotu Zemlja, who had been escorted into his office by Toa Pohatu.

“You speak to the King of Stone,” Pohatu answered for him. “Very soon, the Stone Region will secede from Okoto, and become the nation of Kamuk.”

Kelotu nodded. “I see. If that is the case then, I thank you for your time, your majesty. It is an honor to visit.”

“That’s good to hear, Kelotu,” ShadowVezon said. “What is your purpose here?”

“I decided to make a visit here and touch base with how things are going,” Kelotu said, shrugging. “It was a shame to hear about Lord Zatth’s passing, and you have my condolences… though I am curious about the circumstances regarding his death.”

ShadowVezon’s eyes flicked down to the empty drawer where documents he should have burned weeks ago had vanished mysteriously. “Vinheim explained everything in his speech. Dallior Qendroj purchased the Water Region’s deadliest poison, and spiked his win with it.”

“I see,” the Earth Guardian said, frowning. “Have you… noticed anything odd recently? Perhaps any sightings of a Protector in black and white armor, or an Antlered Titan? Or, perhaps you know the location of Underscore? It was my understanding that Lord Toru sent him here for a diplomatic mission.”

“I haven’t seen or heard of any of this,” ShadowVezon said, relaxing back into his chair.

“How strange,” Kelotu said. “My intel stated that he was to meet with you specifically. That’s an unfortunate bit of news.”

“I will look into the matter later,” ShadowVezon promised, hoping to get the Earth Guardian off his back peacefully. “Is there anything else you wish to discuss?”

“Hmm… I suppose not. Thank you for your time, your majesty.”

“My pleasure,” ShadowVezon said, standing and escorting Kelotu to the door. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have business elsewhere.”

“Of course.”

-ANCIENT CITY-

-HIS GRACE, PULSE VATTEN-

IC: Pulse (All), Nato (All)

He had only just entered the forge when a messenger arrived, handing him two missives that shattered the foundations of his world.

The first, from Vinheim Maran, declared Dallior Qendroj – his Guardian, his ally, his friend – a traitor to the realm, with evidence to back it up.

The second, from ShadowVezon Raqmu, warned him that the Stone Region would soon secede from his rule and name itself an independent nation.

This is unacceptable, he thought. Dallior a traitor? Why? And this… insubordination. I will not stand for it.

“I must leave you for now, Nato,” he said, spinning on his heel. “I must find Irteza Shah. This mask of yours can wait. It is far less important than ShadowVezon’s insubordination.”

Before Nato could response, Pulse had left the forge.

-STONE REGION-

-SIL AODH-

IC: Vinheim (All), Sil (All)

“Sil Aodh,” Vinheim said, gesturing for the Fire Diplomat to take a seat at the table in his office. “I welcome you to my region. What brings you here, hmm? Do you wish to take in the sights perhaps, or partake in some of our local cuisine?”

Sil shook his head, taking the seat offered. “No, I am here as an emissary from the Fire Region. I am seeking council with some of the Stone Region’s lords, but of course, the sights alone would be reason enough to travel here. Yourself?”

While he waited for the Stone Diplomat’s response, Sil recalled the briefings he had received on the figures for the Stone Region houses. His thoughts drifted to the copy of the speech that he had been given hours before – it had been intriguing, as well as quite a coincidence, considering his conversation with Kelotu Zemlja on the way in.

“You speak of wishing to seek council,” Vinheim said, breaking Sil’s chain of thought, “but what, exactly, is the topic you seek council for? As for why I am here… well, our border patrols notified me that you were in the area. We can’t be having high ranking officers from other regions wandering around unsupervised, of course.”

Sil chuckled, though the words worried him more than they amused him. “I was hoping to be escorted to the seat of House Raqmu, to discuss relations between our two regions. But perhaps you and I could talk on the way? I received your letter regarding Lord Zatth’s demise. Such a tragedy… do you believe Lord ShadowVezon is coping well with their new responsibilities? It must be a rather sudden burden.”

“I’m afraid I cannot take you there, as Lord ShadowVezon is currently busy with other matters,” Vinheim said. “It is my authority as Diplomat to speak on his behalf, however. So please, feel free to speak. As for your worries… thank you for your condolences. I am confident that my liege is only stronger despite the tragedy. Of all regions, yours should understand, given we recently removed the need for your purification processes.”

The Fire Diplomat fought the urge to frown at the sight of Vinheim shifting in place. The Stone Diplomat kept looking out the window, as though to check the time. He was beginning to get the impression that Vinheim had better things to do.

A messenger entered the room, handing him two notes. A chill ran down Sil’s spine as he read both.

“Yes, of course,” he said, standing to his feet. “I must apologise; it appears that I must return home. Urgent matters in the Fire Region have become apparent. I thank you for your hospitality, but this matter takes precedence above all others.”

“Such a pity,” Vinheim said slowly, a disturbing glint in their eyes. “I was looking forward to learning your purpose here… but no matter. I shall have my guards escort you to the border… you take care now.”

Sil nodded, and exited the room as quickly as possible without being offensive, his mind racing.

-ANCIENT CITY-

-JED CORRUICH, THE KINGSLAYER-

IC: Jed (All), Tevant (All), Lewa (All), Kulta (All), Pulse (After Entrance)

Jed resisted the urge to growl with frustration at the sight of Lewa guarding the forge, clearly with orders not to let Pulse be disturbed.

His frustration grew when, before he could begin convincing the Toa to let him inside, a dark blue Protector wearing a strange mask covering only the bottom half of their face appeared. Containing his temper, he turned to the newcomer. “Welcome, stranger. I assume you're here to meet his grace as well?”

“Not with him, no,” the figure said, as the door to the forge opened and Pulse stepped into view. “Someone else.”

“Jed, you’re safe,” Pulse said, sounding relieved. “Onaku went in shortly after you did. Did you find anything? I’m afraid I can’t stay long – I must find Irteza. ShadowVezon intends to secede from Okoto. Have you seen him? And who is this Protector?”

The blue Protector glanced at the Skull Warrior standing behind Jed before responding. “Tevant Rayne. I'm looking for Nato Greavesy, and his guards seemed to think he had retreated into your forge for a project. It is... rather urgent.”

“The thief was a Protector in black and white armor,” Jed said. “Onaku apparently knew him already… and left with him. Speaking of….”

He turned to Tevant. “I have a few questions for you, newcomer. And as for Stone… that sounds disconcerting, to say the least.”

“You both speak of sensitive matters in front of that?" Tevant asked, gesturing toward the Skull Warrior with an ugly expression on his face as he turned to Jed.  “You and I have nothing to say to each other, Kingslayer. Not when you can stand beside that beast.”

Pulse frowned, mirroring Jed’s own expression.

“Nato is here, yes,” he said to Tevant. “What is your issue with the Skull Warrior? I warn you, it wears the Mask of Truth.”

“I care not about its Mask of Truth. If Nato is inside the forge, I must ask you to call him out - or allow me inside. If you do not trust me in there, perhaps your Toa could accompany me. It will not be a long conversation.”

“I think not,” Pulse said sharply. “Jed, you take Tevant into the forge. I shall check the Earth gates with Lewa and the Skull Warrior. We’ll speak in private later – even if I do not find Irteza, I’m going to be busy placating Lord Toru.”

The Mask Maker snapped his fingers before striding off, with Lewa and the Skull Warrior in tow.

-ICE REGION-

-SISYPHUS GLACIES-

IC: Sisyphus (All)

He smirked up at Toa Kopaka as the Toa of Ice thrust a box into his hands, looking surly.

“A package for you,” the Toa growled.

Once the Toa was gone, Sisyphus ripped it open to reveal the Mask of Illusions, and smiled. It was time to get to work.

--

His previous investigations had led him to believe that the presence of the Knights was strongest in the lands of House Greavesy – specifically Rollor’s Reach. A few lucky breaks with more gullible Knights loyalists had led him to the Temple of Luck, which apparently served as the headquarters of the Knights.

Constructing the Ice Region’s greatest harbor might not have been the true reason for building Rollor’s Reach after all.

Using the Mask of Illusions, it was rather simple to disguise himself as Nato and infiltrate the temple. Acting rugged and weary from his travels, he was able to easily dismiss the few Knights audacious enough to try and interact with their so-called ‘Knight of Future Past’.

A part of Sisyphus really, really hoped that Nato enjoyed the title. It would make for excellent material to make fun of him with. Terms like ‘silly’ and ‘cliché’ didn’t even begin to describe it.

With the bird he had hijacked from Onaku standing guard outside, Sisyphus managed to enter Nato’s private study – or at least, a private study. Once he was alone, however, he felt the Mask of Illusions’ power failing, until his true form had revealed itself. Evidently there had been some errors in its crafting.

He removed the mask, looking over it carefully. A few small scratches were all that was noticeable; without the expert eye of someone like Pulse Vatten, all he could determine was that its powers would cut off at random times. Chances were that the mask would fail to fool beings such as the Toa and Skull Warriors as well; he was lucky the Knights he had interacted with while disguised hadn’t been too perceptive.

Placing the mask back on his face, Sisyphus began leafing through the various texts in the room. The only troop movements he could find were those for the Ice Region, where Nato apparently had all Knights-loyal troops held in reserve.

The purpose of the Knights was far more interesting.

Destroying the Skull Warriors and preventing Kulta from destroying the island, hmm? He thought, smirking as he continued to browse through it. Some personal entries from Nato himself in here as well… he claims to have met Ekimu during his trip to the past AND fought against Kulta. Interesting… ooh, and what’s this…?

His attention turned to two names that had popped up enough to give him pause.

‘Tevant’ and ‘Voltex’ – the records including them were sightings, mostly, more than any concrete or notable actions, though Voltex was suspected to have been active within the Knights for far longer than should have been possible, under a variety of aliases.

This shouldn’t be possible, Sisyphus thought, his smirk turning into a frown. Wiriamu – a Knight in black and white armor, with a pure white mask. Roman – a Knight in black and white armor, with a pure white mask. Vox – black and white armor, pure white mask. Hellyam, Trijhak, TL, Oko, Taka… all with black and white armor, and wearing a pure white mask.

There were other names too – as Sisyphus read on, he found nineteen. Some names popped up more than once, and the most recent appeared to be ‘Taka’, having shown up again in the last two years. Before that, it had been Wiriamu… whom, Sisyphus noted, had been the Knight to interview Nato about his trip back in time.

Curious.

As for Tevant… the records were both more and less clear. He had only shown up in the last few months, and at least one Knight had noted that his name was an anagram of Vatten – the name of the Mask Maker who had formed the house that ruled over Okoto even today, before he had vanished under mysterious circumstances.

The records noted that Tevant had disproven their theories, though they said nothing about how he had done so, and Tevant had evidently been sighted nearby many of the locations where Masks of Power had gone missing shortly afterward.

Very interesting, indeed.

-ANCIENT CITY-

-GENERAL NATO GREAVESY-

IC: Nato (All), Jed (All), Tevant (All)

Before Nato had even begun, he was interrupted by the entrance to the forge shattering. A blue Protector wearing a strange mask that covered only the bottom half of their face stepped through, pulling Jed along with them. Once they were inside, the entrance repaired itself, with no sign that it had broken in the first place.

“What’s all this about?” Nato asked, eyes narrowing. “Jed? Who is this?”

“Nato Greavesy,” the figure said, “I have taken on the name of Tevant Rayne... and I'm here because of your little trip through time ten years ago.”

“How original,” Nato drawled. “That seems to be all anyone cares about when it comes to me. What is it exactly that you want?”

“It is time to awaken Ekimu from his slumber,” said Tevant. “We will need his help to end the Long Night, and we would like you to help us perform the awakening.”

Nato held up a hand. “Let’s backtrack for a second. Awaken Ekimu? Who are you really? I don't usually acquiesce to the demands of strangers, especially not ones who hide behind aliases.”

Tevant sighed, rubbing at their temples. “If I can trust the Kingslayer to keep his silence, I will tell you. If he breathes a word of what he hears in this room, the Faith will strike before we can assemble a defense.”

“You have my word,” Jed said.

“You heard him,” Nato snapped.

“My true name is Vatten, brother to Archean, and founder of the house which even now rules over Okoto,” said ‘Tevant’, sounding frustrated.

“You’re a Mask Maker then,” Nato said. “Like Ekimu and Makuta were.”

“Yes.”

“Then perhaps we can help each other,” Nato said, glancing down at the materials he had gathered. “You help me complete this mask… and then I’ll help you awaken Ekimu.”

“We must awaken Ekimu first,” Vatten said, shaking his head. “No Mask of Power not already crafted will help us more than having an additional Mask Maker.”

“Ekimu's been asleep for what, centuries now?” Nato asked, incredulous. “You're honestly saying you can't spare an hour or two to help me finish one mask?”

Vatten frowned. “I suppose it depends upon the mask.”

“Seeing as all the Masks of Power have vanished, we need something to destroy the Skull Warriors,” Nato said. “So I’m trying to forge a new Mask of Light to use against them.”

Despite the supposed urgency of the situation, Vatten looked at him like he was stupid.

If Nato had been a lesser Protector, he would have refused to help right then and there.

“Crafting the original took Ekimu months, with countless iterations,” said Vatten, scoffing. “You expect to succeed in your first attempt? That is no simple, ordinary mask you wish to make!”

“Yes, and I was with him during those months,” Nato said. “I saw what worked, and what didn't. We have nothing to defend ourselves with should the Skull Warriors attack. I have to at least try.”

“You are a Protector, no matter how much Mask Maker blood might run through your veins!” Vatten snapped, glaring at him. “You don't have the power necessary, and you did not witness Ekimu's final success - I did.”

Nato scowled, his frustration beginning to boil over. “Fine then. Since you're so determined to assert your superiority, let's go. I’ll help you wake up Ekimu.”

Looking entirely unhappy, Vatten turned to Jed. “And what about you, Kingslayer? You can come if you wish, though we only need two.”

“…sure, I'll come,” Jed said slowly, eyeing both of them with trepidation. “Now that I actually know what you plan to do, I can't really turn down your offer.”

“May I bring my guards with me?” Nato asked, with no intention of actually listening to whatever the Mask Maker suggested. “Or would you prefer I sent them home?”

Vatten eyed him suspiciously before saying, “I leave that up to you. Keeping them here or sending them home might cause more suspicion than them accompanying us, though if they do come we will have to swear them to secrecy. Are they loyal to the Knights?”

Nato resisted the urge to scoff. “They’re loyal to me.”

The Mask Maker sighed, nodding as all the fight seemed to leave him. “Then we’d best be on our way.”

-WATER REGION-

-ONAKU GREAVESY-

IC: Onaku (All), Voltex (All)

Onaku frowned, surprised and confused. “Like, the Mask Maker Ekimu? The guy Nato met ten years ago? What are we even doing here?”

“When he traveled back in time, yes,” ‘Taka’ replied, handing him the Mask of Time. “It was Mask Maker magic that Ekimu used to end the Long Night, and that same magic caused his endless slumber. Tevant and I cannot awaken him alone - we need the help of two Protectors using the Mask of Time. That is why you are here. It is time for Ekimu to awaken.”

The Ice Guardian glanced down at the legendary Mask in his hands worriedly. “I don't suppose it'll take the lives of those two protectors as well?”

“It shouldn't, no. Pulse misused it ten years ago, and it cost him. But for this, you will have the raw magic and power of Mask Makers helping you.”

Onaku nodded. “Sounds good, then... speaking of Mask Making, is there a forge in this city? Although... considering where it's been, it's probably extinguished if there even is one.”

“There was, though I'd say the lack of tools would do you in. Getting a fire started would be fairly simple.”

“Where did all the tools go?” Onaku asked.

“The city was underwater for hundreds of years,” ‘Taka’ replied, giving him a strange look. Where do you think they went?”

Onaku scowled. “Sounds like poor workshop management to me.”

‘Taka’ scowled back. “We were a little busy ending the Long Night and saving all of Okoto.”

“Right. Sorry,” Onaku said, rubbing his neck. “How about making new ones, then?”

“We could, but I’d still suggest we wait,” the black and white figure said after a moment. “Umarak, another of our allies, currently guards the Mask of Creation elsewhere. Once he returns, one of us Mask Makers can use it to create the tools we’ll need in seconds.”

Onaku nodded. “Very well. Perhaps I can start cleaning up the forge and preparing it for use while we wait for our allies?”

“Sure,” Taka said, seeming distracted as their eyes focused on the Lord of Skull Spiders in the distance. “Once Vatten arrives, I’ll come find you.”

“Right,” Onaku said, before pausing, confused. “Wait, Vatten? I thought his name was… oh. Oh. It’s an anagram. Of course. Is ‘Taka’ an anagram as well, then?”

The Mask Maker hesitated, a look of pain flashing across his face. “No, it belonged to a Protector, who lived long ago. I’d rather not discuss it.”

“Oh…” Onaku said, trailing off before hesitantly asking. “May I ask what your real name is?”

“I suppose Vatten will probably have already told the others,” the Mask Maker said, sighing. “It's Voltex.”

“A good name... I suppose I'll be going then,” Onaku said, nodding before pausing and turning back to the Mask Maker. “Where exactly is the forge, by the way?”

“Fine a way to go straight up,” said Voltex. “The forge is always in the heart of a city, and in this one, Ekimu’s tomb is located directly below it.”

-FIRE REGION-

-SMOKE MONSTER BOSCAGE-

IC: Smoke Monster (All), Unit (Meeting)

He found Unit Ember hunting around what little of the jungle was left in the territories of House Boscage, a small squad of Fire Protectors at the Turaga’s side.

“Unit Ember,” he called, getting the Turaga’s attention as he and his own guards approached. “Might I inquire as to your purpose being in the Jungle Region?”

“I’m looking for answers,” Unit said cryptically.

Smoke Monster sighed. It was going to be one of those interactions, then. “Answers to what, exactly?”

“Anything,” Unit said, shrugging. “What happened to Tekulo? What caused that earthquake? Who took the Mask of Control? Is any of it related to that new island? We have plenty of mysteries.”

“Okay,” Smoke Monster said slowly. “Were you given orders to do this?”

Unit was – unfortunately – saved from responding by the arrival of two new Jungle Protectors, who waved Smoke Monster over.

“What is it?” he asked, so quietly that even the two newcomers had to strain to hear him.

“The bodies were discovered without the armor, sir,” one murmured. “We’ve been searching for you to warn you. The Fire Protectors are blaming us, and the Jungle Protectors are fighting back. Violence is spreading throughout the region; it’s turning into anarchy. Lord Burnmad won’t take this offense lightly, my lord. He’s going to mobilize the Fire Region army, and scatter ours.”

Smoke Monster spun back around to face Unit. “You know what? I need to be elsewhere, so I’m leaving you to your fruitless search. Goodbye.”

Before the Fire Turaga could realize what was happening, Smoke Monster and his soldiers had disappeared into the jungle.

-ICE REGION-

-LORD FF CRUSTALLUS-

IC: FF (All), Kit (All)

He met Kit Lurrun at the border between the Ice Region and Water Region.

“What is your purpose here?” he asked.

“Diplomatic reasons,” the Water Diplomat said, smiling. “They involve a request for the presence of General Nato in a city that has risen from beneath the waves.”

Of course they do, FF thought, shaking his head.

“A request involving Nato at that city?” he asked. “What, specifically, do you need him for?”

They wrestled together for a few seconds before the Assassin easily overpowered him and tossed him aside; FF saw stars as his head smashed into the stone ground. Forcing back a wave of dizziness, he grabbed a nearby rock and made to stand and attack again.

Ooooh, bad idea.

Before he was even back on his feet, the Assassin kicked him in the head again. FF was knocked back down, and a second impact between his head and the ground did him no favors. As he lay there, dazed, the Assassin stabbed their sword down right through his right wrist, and FF bit his lip so hard it bled as he tried not to scream.

Now they spoke.

“Stay down, my lord. I was not ordered to kill you.”

“Then who are you?” FF croaked, grabbing at wrist and attempting to stand once more, only to crash to his knees as dizziness overcame him. “What… business do you have?”

“I have been ordered to kill her, and so I will.”

They turned to strike at Kit once more – but this time, the Water Diplomat was ready. Cleanly sidestepping the blade, she yelled and karate chopped the Assassin in the neck. Before FF’s startled eyes, the Assassin’s eyes bulged out of their sockets before their entire head burst, and Kit stepped away, nodding with satisfaction.

Diplomatic Immunity.

Half-convinced he was beginning to hallucinate from brain damage, FF sat down, wincing as pain spiked through his arm.

“I hope you don’t mind,” he heard Kit saying, “but I’m going to search this guy and see if I can find anything before we find you a doctor. I doubt anybody is getting that wrist fixed enough to give you use of your hand back anyway.”

FF was unable to respond as he blacked out.

-STONE REGION-

-VINHEIM MARAN-

IC: Vinheim (All), ShadowVezon (All), Pohatu (All), Quin (From Entrance), ALL PLAYERS (Announcement), ALL NPCS (Announcement)

“Vinehim.”

He turned, inclining his head to the figures who had entered the room. ShadowVezon Raqmu, it had to be said, was doing quite well in cutting an imposing figure – helped along by the form of Toa Pohatu looming behind him. Still, a single locked briefcase and one public speech had already given Vinheim everything he needed.

If ShadowVezon intended to blackmail him, he would find himself sadly mistaken.

“Greetings my liege,” he said. “I presume by now you've heard of my glorious, morale boosting speech… which means you know full well what I know.”

At a look from ShadowVezon, Pohatu shut the door to the room in the faces of the guards that had been about to follow them inside. The Ruler of Stone stared at him impassively.

“I would hate for any sudden revelations to spoil the mood of our Region's rise,” he said. “So I do hope you understand that certain information should remain… secure. I have great plans for the Stone Region's future, and I'd rather have a Diplomat I know is qualified for the job.”

“Oh you can be certain the true killer will be kept secret,” Vinheim promised, smirking. “However, should anything happen to said Diplomat...well, I’m sure you would hate to have half of Okoto at your doorstep with pitchforks and swords at the ready.”

He boldly stepped towards ShadowVezon, refusing to be intimidated by the criminal standing before him.

“Our General is a fool, and has already revealed that he knows my secret,” he continued. “I would recommend you keep that in mind with the… requirements I am about to make.”

He turned around, knowing that ShadowVezon would recognize the sign of disrespect.

He also knew that the Ruler could do nothing about it.

“Pohatu. He will act as my personal bodyguard,” he said, holding up a hand to tick off his demands one by one. “Particularly when I am outside the Stone Region. Even if I die elsewhere, by non-stone hands, the information will be leaked. Best to ensure that my safety is guaranteed, no?”

He pretended to think for a moment before saying, “secondly, I want to know your plans for Stone, and our allies in the Earth Region.”

The Stone Diplomat turned to face the Ruler and Toa of Stone once more. “Despite what you may believe, I do wish the best for the Stone Region, and to ensure I can perform my duties to the best of my ability. But in order to do so, I need to know our plans, so that I can act around them.”

ShadowVezon grimaced, remaining silent for several long moments as he thought over the offer.

Finally, he spoke: “Very well, Vinheim. You may take Pohatu as your guardian. As for our plans, once General Quin arrives, I shall be announcing our secession from the rule of Pulse Vatten. As for the Earth Region… I’d like to ensure that our ties remain strong. Perhaps we could make an arrangement with them for better armaments.”

As if in answer to the Ruler’s words, there was a knock at the door. At ShadowVezon’s signal, Pohatu opened it to reveal General Quin.

“Speech time already?” Vinheim asked idly.

“Not as much,” Quin said gruffly. “Your grace, you should come see this. We’ve got a body.”

--

Despite General Quin’s protests, Vinheim accompanied the three of them into the back alley, where several guards were standing around a tarp. At ShadowVezon’s order, one of the guards lifted it to reveal a very, very dead Protector of Water.

“That is Meta Lurrun,” Pohatu said, speaking for the first time. “The newest Turaga of the Water Region.”

“How did he get here?” Vinheim asked, honestly curious.

“Not sure, but he was on the roof,” Quin said. “Must have fallen off and died on impact with the ground.”

“This is a secure location, with only cleared personnel admitted entry,” ShadowVezon said, glaring down at the corpse. “Increase patrols, and burn the body. He got what he deserved, trying to spy on us.”

The Ruler of Stone turned to go, and Vinheim followed. Behind him, he heard Quin snapping for the guards to do as ordered before the General hurried after them.

--

Less than an hour later, Vinheim Maran stood before an assembled crowd next to Lord ShadowVezon Raqmu. General Quin Galum stood on the Ruler’s other side, and Toa Pohatu loomed behind them.

As the speech wore on, the same missive reached each and every Protector on Okoto:

A NOTICE TO OKOTO

FROM HIS GRACE, SHADOWVEZON RAQMU,

First of His Name,

The King of Stone,

Ruler of Kamuk:

The Stone Region hereby secedes from the island nation of Okoto, and no longer acknowledges the Mask Maker Pulse Vatten as their Ruler.

Henceforth, his grace King ShadowVezon Raqmu, First of His Name, shall rule over the new nation of Kamuk.

All existing military, political, and trade agreements with the various regions of Okoto will continue to function as normal.

The nation of Kamuk, though independent, looks forward to maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship with Okoto, its Mask Maker, and its various regions.

The Stone Guardian Irteza Shah of House Galum, and his assigned guards, will remain stationed in the Ancient City as diplomatic envoys until further notice.

The Nation of Kamuk sends its regards.

-ANCIENT CITY-

-IRTEZA SHAH GALUM-

IC: Irteza (All), Toru (All), Kulta (All), Pulse (After Entrance), Lewa (After Entrance)

He bowed to Lord Toru respectively. “I apologise on behalf of the Mask Maker and the Earth Guardian, my lord. There has been… much going on in the Ancient City lately. I imagine they have both been distracted. I myself was hoping to enter the Earth Region for… diplomatic reasons.”

Irteza glanced up at the guards and nodded before speaking again. “I will lend you access to the Ancient City as the Mask Maker would wish, Lord Toru.”

“Well thank you,” said the Ruler of Earth, sounding startled. “Oh, and I received your message about wanting to join the Faith. I could take you back with me when I'm done here, if you'd like.”

“Most certainly,” Irteza said, smiling.

Before either of them could continue, the guards around them all stood ramrod straight and saluted. Irteza turned to see that the Mask Maker himself had joined them, alongside Toa Lewa and a Skull Warrior.

“Hello, Lord Toru Sevoi,” Pulse said. “I apologise for the wait. It has been a very busy few days. First we have high ranking officials dying and turning traitor, then Masks of Power vanishing, and now… the Stone Region has seceded from Okoto entirely. They are calling themselves the Nation of Kamuk… and I worry about its impact. There is little to stop Lord Burnmad from attempting to conquer another region now, or from some other conflict to break out.”

The Mask Maker sighed, shaking his head. “We are on the verge of another war, Lord Toru. So with this news, I hope that we can repair our otherwise strained relationship – because Kamuk has spat upon the very concept of Okoto as a unified whole. I offer and ask the Earth Region to fill every niche that Stone used to fill, for if Stone is not a part of Okoto, we may very well pretend that it does not exist.”

Before Irteza’s eyes, Lord Toru shook with rage once more.

“Stone has seceded?” the Earth Ruler hissed. “Then ShadowVezon has betrayed me, and betrayed the Faith! How am I supposed to help peace reign on Okoto if a region can just announce independence?!”

Irteza flinched as Toru slammed a fist into the wall.

“You may not have known this, your grace, but ShadowVezon was a member of the Faith,” Toru spat. “Until now, that is. This goes against our purpose, and our duty! He’s no better than those Knights!”

The Ruler of Earth took a deep breath, visibly calming himself. “But… I did come here to invite you to come see Commander Kulta, your grace. Not simply for diplomatic purposes, but also to discuss the missing Masks of Power.”

Pulse was frowning. “He was? It’s… unfortunate to see that this is as much of a betrayal to you as it is to me. As for the missing Masks of Power… Kulta wishes to see me about them? That, I must say, is unexpected. Am I to visit alone, or am I allowed to bring a few others with me?”

“Feel free to bring as many as you like,” Toru said, shrugging, gesturing to Irteza. “Perhaps Irteza Shah, here? He has expressed interest in visiting my region in order to join the Faith.”

Pulse nodded at him, and Irteza nodded back as the Mask Maker said, “I shall bring Lewa and Jed Corruich as well. Come with us, while I inform the Guardians.”

“Thank you my liege.”

-WATER REGION-

-CHLOE SARYIAN-

IC: Chloe (All), Terrorsaur (Meeting)

Chloe had been in luck, for once. Upon arrival in the territory of House Rayne she had found none other than Lord Terrorsaur overseeing the stockpiling of two ships for a voyage to the island. A quick conversation had seen her approved to join them, and now they were en route.

Terrorsaur joined her as she was staring off into the distance.

“How are things in your region?” she asked, turning to face him.

The Water Ruler sighed. “Things are not going well at all at the moment.”

“Oh? How do you mean?”

“Well. I don't know,” Terrorsaur said, seemingly struggling to get the words out. “Maybe I'm being too dramatic. But I just had to make a decision that no one wanted.”

“A decision? What kind?”

“Letting the Fire Region invade,” Terrorsaur said shortly.

Oh dear.

“Oh. He… informed you ahead of time?”

“As far as Burnmad says, it’s just a technical invasion, to look good in front of his people,” Terrorsaur said, shrugging helplessly. “I’ll hopefully gain some more power to end the deadlock. But ultimately… nothing really changes. I’m just worried, because it’s a knife at my throat. Minds and hearts change… knives don’t.”

“Perhaps if you dull the knife,” Chloe mused. “When is this planned for?”

He turned to face her, and his eyes were dull. “While I’m away. While we’re on the island.”

Chloe sighed. In an effort to turn the conversation in a more positive direction, she asked, “what do you think we’ll find there, anyway?”

“Who knows? The reports were pretty mundane, but a lot is happening recently.”

“True. I guess we just don’t know…” Chloe trailed off, before another thought occurred to her. “What’s up with Gali, recently?”

Terrorsaur shrugged. “The deadlock makes using her difficult. Perhaps you could use a Toa?”

Did he just offer to give away a Toa?

“Perhaps,” she said slowly.

“Seeing as yours was stolen by Pulse and our relations are sour at best right now, you might as well have her,” Terrorsaur continued. “At least she’ll have something to do.”

“She could help quell the Jungle Protectors,” Chloe murmured.

“That’s settled, then. Once we return, I’ll assign Gali to you personally,” Terrorsaur said.

Chloe smiled. “That sounds perfect.”

-FIRE REGION-

-LORD BURNMAD AODH-

IC: Burnmad (All), Tahu (All), ALL PLAYERS (Announcement), ALL NPCS (Announcement)

“How nice of you to join me once again, Toa Tahu,” Burnmad said.

The Toa of Fire walked across the room until they both stood side by side, staring down at the map of Okoto. The fire crackled and popped behind them.

“The messengers have been sent?” he asked.

“Yes, my lord,” the Toa said. “We will have to see if Smoke Monster and TimeLord accept your command. The missives have been sent out across Okoto. By this time tomorrow, all will know that they have lost all titles and positions.”

“Good,” Burnmad said, his voice as cold as ice. “I warned them. I handed them extra rights on a silver platter. They repaid me by murdering two innocent Protectors of Fire. I will repay them an eye for an eye. What of our forces?”

“You got to the Jungle forces first,” Tahu growled. “They have obeyed your commands and scattered to the edges of their half of the region. But if the traitors call upon them, I believe they will listen.”

“And Fire?”

“Mobilized, and ready,” Tahu said, one of his hands drifting to the Water Region. “You have decided, then? You will move on the Water Region without striking down Jungle once and for all?”

“I am not a destroyer, Tahu,” Burnmad said. “I am a conqueror. We need the forces. Earth will side with Stone in any conflict, despite their secession. Ice is too far away to provide us aid if we need it. With the forces of Water backing us, Jungle will submit forevermore, and Stone will think twice before moving against us.”

He turned and walked away, pausing in the doorway to glance over his shoulder at Tahu.

“There will be war, Tahu. I promise you that. It is coming… and when it does, we will burn away our enemies, in fire and blood.”

END OF EPISODE THREE.

TimeLord hasn't even done anything yet

Well, he obviously did something, or he wouldn't've been arrested and stripped of his titles.

It's sort of unfortunate that I wasn't able to see my voyage leave, and the fact that voyage is taking place at the same time as the "invasion;" but regardless, I 'm excited to see what happens in Chapter 5.
