IC Lukasi - Metronome

The blast smacked into the wall behind him, suddenly and abruptly bashing Lukasi's back and some of his chest with pummeling blows of varying strengths. What in Karzahni?! what is that weapon? whatever it is, I need to get it away from him fast if I want to continue the fight. Actually, better idea.

He slammed his protosteel khopesh into the ground next to him and dissolved again. I hope this works... A few bits of sand stayed in the ball of air being bounced around for a few more seconds before dropping into the pile.

IC: Kohu (Ghost VS Huntsman)

Karz he was following the rope. I wasn't eager to let him get the first blow, so I dropped my end of the rope and retreated behind cover. While he followedmy rope I looped round to behind his position.

Sneaking from behind, I aimed one precise blow at the back of Acanons mask, aiming to knock it off.

IC: Hijack
"To whose benefit?"
Hijack tilted their head sideways, clearly as a gesture of bemusement, although this was obviously an imitated gesture, rather than a natural one. The movement was a bit too quick, a bit too janky, and the resulting posture was just barely passable as what it was intended to be.

IC: Erox (Specialist) - Vs Mimic

I used Mimic's body as a springboard, I attempted to do a stylish backflip....

Only to be smashed down to the ground with the club. The hardened blue plasma shattered as it hit me in the face.

My body impacted the ground hard. I groaned, pushing myself up.

I reloaded my weapon quickly, before dashing forwards with a quick kick to the gut.

OOC: Ghidora, I'm a bit confused by your last post. Let me get this straight: Lukasi has just avoided the blast I mentioned in my post, charged forwards, thrown his sword at Psyker, turned into sand, moved forwards as sand, flowed under his legs, then reformed to punch him in the back of the head...in a time frame short enough for Psyker to not be able to intercede?

So, so far he's tried to jump on Votadox, then landed, turned around, dodged a bolt (despite his height) and avoided its blast in the space of a second. And now his latest attack: to put it lightly, it must be insanely fast for Votadox not to have time to respond. But this is a character described as clumsy in its profile.

There's also the question of why the sword is suddenly so big that Votadox using it is "out of the question" whereas before it was supposed to bait Votadox into moving towards it and using it. But that issue seems relatively small. My main concern is how on Earth Lukasi can move so fast that he can A) land, turn, dodge and charge forward in a second and B) how he can run forwards, throw the suddenly giant sword, dissolve, resolve and punch Votadox in the back of the head so quickly that he can't respond.

Seemed it was up to her to make the first move. She could already tell this was going to be a long battle...

Sting pulled out a dagger, considering its weight and edge for a moment before hurling it toward Reaver's sword arm. She wasn't intending to do any damage (though an early strike would be a boon), but just poke at his defenses.

--IC: Idgaddiy and Skondh--

IC:

Zaryna led the way to a vacant section of the arena and casually spoke as she did so. "Dear, it's not that difficult considering all the evidence on full display. You're the same height and girth of one, you're wearing a suit clearly necessary for your continued existence on land, and you have a Vemosai slave. And your 'codename' certainly isn't the most effective disguise, either."

She drew her saber and swung it in a couple neat flourishes. Zaryna clearly had a handful of advantages: A longer weapon, potentially more physical prowess, no environmental suit, and rhotuka. Still, she couldn't underestimate Bug-Eye until she knew what he was actually capable of, and to that effect she continued to play with her sword while waiting for him to make his move.

"How... astute of you to notice all those things," Idgaddiy said, drawing Verberator and activating the vibrating blade.  "However, there are two things you must know.  First, my helmet is the only thing that I require to remain on land.  And second, don't ever call me 'dear' again."

With that, he sprang at the Akula and swung his dagger in a wide arc at her chest.

IC (Shadowboxer): Skondh could call it dirty fighting. Krahua called it effective fighting. Thanks to his "dishonour", his opponent had taken a sucker-punch to the face, and would spend the rest of their bout fighting with one hand left raw and painful by his second shadow bolt. The downside was that Skondh was now enraged. Ah well.

Krahua didn't stick around to get flattened. He took off, sprinting the last five bio or so to the forest of poles beneath the construction site. In there, he hoped he could stay ahead of the Vemosai. He just had to get there first.

Skondh charged after "Shadowboxer," and had just gotten within reach of him when the Matoran ducked into a wide area of poles, in what appeared to be a construction site.  The Matoran's dark armor helped him blend in somewhat with the dark poles.  Skondh couldn't see him, and his sensory tentacles weren't picking anything up.  Oh, how he wished Idgaddiy were here.  Hadn't he said that he would stay with him for the rest of their time with the Dark Hunters?

Skondh inched forward, swiveling his head from side to side, letting his sensory tentacles scan for "Shadowboxer"... There!  A flicker of movement to his left!  He swiped at the poles on his flank, breaking two, and saw the Matoran.  He raised his fist, the one that hadn't been hit, and bellowed as he brought it down.

Apologies for being late, everyone.  But now, my project is finished, and I can get back in the swing of things.

IC:

While Zaryna had gained notoriety as a raider of fierce repute, in confronting a singular opponent—real or pretend—she demonstrated a discipline most enemies would not have expected at all. She was all form and function, using drilled movements that could all have been lethal in the right circumstances. She was a fencer; even when they exchanged smalltalk barbs her feet had shifted into position, weight distributed in preparation for a dance. When Bug-Eye attacked, she was well prepared for it and used an evade-and-riposte maneuver.

Despite her size, she deftly stepped back and to the side a bit to avoid the wicked swipe and, to make a point, slapped Idgaddiy's side with the side of her saber while she retreated.

"One," she cooed.

IC (Huntsman): Acanon reached the end of the rope, but Kohu wasn't there. The trail had gone cold, but he couldn't have been that far away. Acanon turned this way and that, peering through the fog for any sign of where he might have been. All he found was eerie silence, and no signs of movement.

Stymied, he cast about, using his mask to throw rocks into possible hiding places, but none of them would flush out his adversary. He continued to cast about the area in frustration, until he caught a flash of movement close by. Acting more by reflex than thought, he threw up his blade to parry the blow.

"Aha!" he shouted, though the sound was strangely muted. At last, he had Kohu within his reach, and resolved not to let him slip away. Moving closer again, he launched into a flurry of blows, his blade twirling around in a blur between them.

IC (Mimic): Mimic didn't press his advantage while Erox was on the ground, instead putting a little distance between the two and waiting to see what the recruit would try next. When that turned out to be a flying kick, Mimic agilely stepped around the blow to catch Erox's ankle in his hand and use it to throw him to the ground once again.

IC (Shadowboxer): Krahua had reached the safety of the construction site, or so he had thought. Apparently, putting a pair of poles between himself and the enraged Vemosai wasn't adequate protection.

Suddenly face to face with Skondh and about to get flattened by a fist larger than his head, he had to think fast. He sapped speed from Skondh's fist as he brought it down, and it was just enough as he leapt backwards. Skond's fist came down within inches of his mask, so that Krahua could have counted the calluses on each finger.

Krahua kept back-pedalling, dodging around more poles to keep Bruiser at bay. All the while, he kept firing off shadow-bolts from his fists in Skondh's general direction.

--IC: Idgaddiy and Skondh--

The slap from "Exile's" blade did not hurt, but Idgaddiy checked the area of impact anyway.  No part of his suit seemed to be broken, which was fortunate for him.

He next feinted a blow at her chest, then did a 360 spin just before he hit to deliver his real strike to her right shoulder, using the butt of Verberator.

Skondh advanced on the retreating "Shadowboxer," battering aside poles and roaring.  Shadow bolts occasionally hit his shoulders, hips, or knees, enraging him more.

He coated one massive fist with excess skin fluid, and struck out with it.

--OOC:--

Just remember, that skin fluid is slightly corrosive.

IC: Kohu (Ghost VS Hunter)

As the blade cut into my hand I knew I had practically lost this fight. I yanked my hand up just quickly enough to not lose it as Acanon unleashed a flurry of sword-strikes on me, cutting into me with his blade. Staggering back from the blows I grunted in pain.

I knew the moment I got close I'd have to risk facing his blades. Still, head shots were poor form in combat training and I didn't want to cripple my old lieutenant, even if I risked the same right now. Yet I could't let this fight end so soon, I hadn't gone toe to toe with Acanon for years, and I wouldn't be a worthy dark hunter if I quit like this.

Right now though stealth wasn't working, I needed to change tactics. From my ammo pouch I pulled out a crossbow bolt for each hand. They weren't meant to be used as daggers, but I was used to improvising when the need came. I pulled myself up straight and adopted a combat stance, doing my best to ignore the pain. I spoke just loud enough to compensate for the muffling of the fog. "I see you've kept your skills sharp"

Had Idgaddiy followed through with the feinted blow he may have scored at least somewhat, owing to his surprisingly good alacrity, but in suddenly switching and turning his entire body around he spent a lot of time on what was a weaker attack. While Bug-Eye had to rotate entirely, Zaryna only needed to adjust her posture and tilt her wrist slightly, and her saber intercepted and caught his forearm as it raced for her shoulder.

Suddenly, Bug-Eye's own force of the attack was being used against him, and, unfortunately, that time she had not been able to switch the side of the blade in her minute adjustments and Bug-Eye's arm met freshly sharpened steel.

IC (Shadowboxer): Krahua kept backing away from Skondh, using the poles for protection where he could. Unfortunately, they weren't quite as good as he'd hoped - Bruiser just kept smashing them down, and gaining on him. As he wound up for another monstrous punch, Krahua nimbly put a pole between himself and Skondh's fist. As the wood splintered, the upper portion flew back into Krahua, knocking him on his back and jolting the sword from his hand.

Trying to recover, he scrambled backwards on his hands, but found himself up against a wall. Without realising it, he had come to the edge of the covered area and put himself into a dead end.

IC (Huntsman): Acanon's first blow hit home, and there was little resistance to his follow-ups. He had half expected Kohu to start spewing fire or dissolving into nothing but mist, more unnatural giftings of the treacherous Makuta. Instead, a couple of improvised weapons were all he had to contend with.

"And you picked up some new ones. Impressive." He replied. Acanon could see how Kohu's new abilities would be incredibly useful to his trademark style of stealth and sniping. Still, he found it difficult to look past the source of these new abilities, and, especially, the fact that Kohu seemed so reliant on them so as to not even carry a meelee weapon. He shook his head.

Looking to bring the fight to a quick conclusion, to keep Kohu where he could still see him in the cursed fog, and to minimise slicing up his friend, Acanon triggered his mask. He seized Kohu in a telekinetic grip and hoisted him up into the air, well above his head, and turned him upside down.

"Do you concede?" he asked, "Or do I have to drop you on your head?"

IC (Mimic): Erox's plasma burst hit Mimic's left arm, locking it in place.  Annoyedly, he tried to shake it off, but the congealed plasma held tightly to his limb.

Seeing that Specialist was keeping his distance, Mimic bent to pick up a stone about twice the size of his fist. In a quick twirl, he stood back up and shot-putted the rock at Erox.

IC: Nilauhk

Beneath her visor, Nilauhk's unseen face watched his movements, her grip tightening as Commander raised his spear. As he moved for a swipe to her side she switched her own, circling her head to dodge and feeling the wind rush by on the back of her neck.

She would've thought 'too close' if her mind hadn't settled on 'didnt hit, unimportant'. The actually important note was that one tended to turn a bit when making a swing, and Nilauhk made her own, bringing the blade of her glaive towards the side of Commander's knee, the one opposite where his own weapon now was.

--IC: Idgaddiy and Skondh--

As if in slow motion, Idgaddiy analyzed the situation.  His left arm, the one clutching Verberator, was speeding toward the edge of "Exile's" saber, and was in danger of being lopped off.  He could still save it, but it would require much strength and control.  Her attention was focused on his moving arm, and there was a small distance between them.  Her chest was left unguarded, practically begging to be punched.

Returning to real time, Idgaddiy used all of the strength in his left arm to cease its momentum before it was severed.  He succeeded; as it was, however, the saber left a cut in his armor about two centimeters deep.  As soon as that arm stopped moving, his other one started, delivering a powerful punch that, at this range, was sure to knock her back.

"One," he cackled softly, mocking what the Akula had said to him as she scored her first hit.

He gave her little time to recover, immediately launching a flurry of swipes at her.

He was cornered!  The Matoran stood with his back against the wall, without a weapon and without any visible means of escape.  Skondh battered aside a few more poles before stopping, glaring down at "Shadowboxer," sensory tentacles flailing, skin dripping excess sticky fluid.  He drew his right fist back, with its Steel Knuckles glinting wickedly, and lingered, almost daring his opponent to try something else before it was all over.

IC:

"And a half," Zaryna coughed, referring to the cut she made on Idgaddiy's arm, before whatever wry grin she began to shape was overtaken with an expression of steely resolve. She backed away from Bug-Eye's rapid swings, yielding space in exchange for a better foothold and thus control of the duel, and held her sword out in front of her pointed at him.

The Crunal seemed to prefer combat up close and personal, an circle Zaryna, although nonetheless capable, comparatively suffered in. Her saber was better at keeping opponents at bay, slashing them, or turning the energy of their attacks against them. Bug-Eye would doubtlessly try to seize the space between them to commence another onslaught, and Zaryna had deceptively given him the idea that she was defenseless against his smallquarters blows, giving a scent of blood he could not resist to take—a strategy she'd learned from Pridak and adopted into her own repertoire.

She fired her rhotuka at close range just as he began to march towards her. The spinner dropped to the ground between them and immediately exploded in a brilliant flash of flame that threatened to temporarily blind Bug-Eye, and instantly evaporated a man-sized patch of the ground to nothingness to create the additional threat of a stumbling obstacle. This time, Zaryna moved forward, threatening to slash at Bug-Eye's throat with her sword as he stumbled toward her, though this time she deliberately struck with the dull edge of the blade.

And, just in case he happened to evade that, her wrist was cocked and glowing with a second spinner.

Mirror grimaced. He figured Hijack had been trying to make a joke but... everything about the way he moved was wrong. If there was a ever a Toa in that body, in was long gone.

"How about to the benefit of all of us Dark Hunters you'll be working with? I am not gonna sleep anywhere near you, thats for sure."

The Skakdi rose, unsteady at first but then with more assurance. He started his flexing his arm, then his leg. The paralyzing agent was almost out of his system.

"I think I'm just about ready to fight" he told Hijack.

His Kanohi was still working, copying Spirit's power. It would be ready shortly into his training fight.

"Wish me luck" he winked at Spirit and Whisper.

IC (Shadowboxer): Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Facing the monster in front of him, Krahua panicked and froze.

Suddenly, all of his cold, analytical thinking evaporated. He was back in the rahi-cells of Vamprah's lab, powerless before his master's fury. Why had he thought he could make a life here, among some of the universe's most ruthless and powerful beings? He didn't understand what had happened to him that night in Vamprah's lab, or how he got his powers., or know anything about Dark Hunter-ing. He was only a small Onu-Matoran, an unimportant no one from an unimportant nowhere. Why did he think he could be anything different?

These thoughts rushed through Krahua's brain as he stood paralysed in front of Skondh.

--IC: Idgaddiy and Skondh--

Idgaddiy ducked as the saber swung toward his neck, watching as it passed a hairsbreadth above his face.  As he ducked, his pelvis came unfortunately close to "Exile's" charging Rhotuka launcher.  He had seen what it could do to solid ground, and he didn't want it to happen to his pelvis.  He turned his duck into a flip, aiming a kick at her wrist with the intent of knocking her saber away.

Unfortunately, he landed in the rough footing of the hole "Exile" had made and stumbled.

So he would do nothing to protect himself.  Pity.

Skondh swung a mighty backhanded blow at "Shadowboxer," knocking him aside into more poles.  He watched with a macabre satisfaction as the Matoran's body broke maybe more poles than he had in his rage.  As he slumped, Skondh approached, making sure that he didn't accidentally kill him.

"aRe You OK?" he whispered.  "iF You'Re DeaD, i'M SoRRY i KiLLeD You."

Bug-Eye successfully managed to kick Zaryna's saber out of her grip and it clattered to the ground a pace away, but once he stumbled into the large divot she knew he was at her mercy. Her rhotuka launcher still hummed threateningly and was pointed directly at his sprawled body as she seemed to tower over him, and though Bug-Eye would have had no way of knowing that spinner would not flash-fry him in his own suit, it was beside the point, and the mere menace was all she needed to do to solidify her victory in the bout. Her wry grin appeared for real then as she peered curiously at the fallen recruit, and for a moment her crimson eyes seemed to eat his visage up with an intent Bug-Eye couldn't place. "Two and a half," she said.

Rhotuka take their abilities from the personalities of their users, and anyone who understood how rhotuka work would instantly understand how fitting hers were. Zaryna's nature was to annihilate her opposition quickly and efficiently with whatever it took to do so, and whatever she could not overcome would be turned aside. That was exhibited in her vicious bladeswork, which aimed at cutting foes down quickly or else controlling the field, and in her approach to obstacles, as when she fearlessly overcame the gauntlet in the earlier course, and ultimately in her spinners, which could either turn men to ash or make them scream and squirm in agony, all done with the same level of nonchalance as a bird flapping its wings to take flight.

What might surprise the Crunal was that Zaryna did not overly gloat in her apparent victory but rather appeared almost... gracious, as though her sense of nobility was untarnished even after the trial they just endured. She dissipated her cocked rhotuka, then offered her right to Igdaddiy to help him back up. He was not her enemy—not there, not then—and Nidhiki had warned against killing or causing grievous injury, but there was somewhat more behind her gesture, a sense of respect for a fellow Prime being despite the disparity of rank and privilege between them. They were the ones created by the Great Spirit to rule, after all, and Exile, despite her moniker, clung to that idea even after all those years.

But whether Igdaddiy interpreted her behavior as such, or approved of it, was beyond her control.

--IC: Idgaddiy and Skondh--

Idgaddiy looked up from where he sat kneeling, and saw "Exile" offering him her hand to help him up.  For a brief moment, he considered stabbing her hand with Verberator- and his hand twitched toward the handle as he thought it- but changed his mind.  Though Cunal were known for being tricky, unfair fighters, they did have an unwritten rule that one must not attack after being bested.  And he had certainly been bested this time, no matter how much he wanted to deny it.

"I... I concede," he said quietly, putting Verberator back in its sheath.

Ignoring the aches in his shoulders, back, and knees, Idgaddiy reached for the Akula's hand and took it.  When he had been hauled out of the hole in the ground, he met her gaze and saw... what was it he saw?  He didn't know, but whatever it was, it reduced his dislike for her, even if it was only a little.

"You fought well, Akula," he said.  "I congratulate you on your victory.  Though you can expect our next bout to have a very different outcome."

Skondh reached over and flipped "Shadowboxer's" body over.  He was still breathing, thank God, but he was unconscious.  The least Skondh could do was get him out of the pile of broken poles and to a healer.

As gently as he could, which was honestly not very gently at all, Skondh fished the Matoran out from under the pile of poles and held him in his arms.  He began to look for Nidhiki, wanting to inform him that he was going to take "Shadowboxer" to the storehouse.  He fought off a shudder as a vision of Screamer, the storehouse's healer, flashed before him.  But hey, at least he wasn't the one she was going to tend to.
