trayn0r
The Fikou Scorpion is a Rahi build I came up with while improvising on the simplistic Fikou build. In the end, I ended up with a four-legged Rahi with a Thornax launcher tail and gear function. This build consists of 92 parts (When including Kanohi and ammo), has a few functions (Over a dozen points of articulation, gear function, Thornax launcher), and uses a mix of G1 Bionicle, Technic, and CCBS pieces.I plan on slowly creating a small team of these MOCs in various colors. And thanks to the power of Stud.IO and LPub, I have figured out how to make my own instructions that actually resemble official Lego instructions! The only issue is that CCBS bones and most Bionicle-specific pieces don't show up, so I indicated the missing parts on the first page of instructions. Here's a link to the instructions, as the image resolution is a bit too big to embed. And here's a GIF demonstrating the gear function Thanks for taking a look at my MOC and I appreciate any questions, comments, and criticisms in the thread. Old version of this post: I've been getting into Bionicle again recently, couldn't manage to find my old BZPower account from 2006-ish so I started a new one. Anyways, I like the designs of the 2001-2003 Rahi and wanted to make something similar but utilizing a mix of old and new parts (and lots of turquoise). Ended up making a Fikou-inspired MOC using parts from McToran Kongu, Throwbots Amazon, CCBS sets, and various common technic parts.I want to try making some more of these Rahi with different color schemes in the future. In the meantime, I made some instructions in case I ever forget how I made this. (Minus the mask because Stud.io doesn't have any models for Kanohi.) Total part count: 64 Pieces, 24 Unique Parts. (Including Kanohi Mask) Edited June 14, 2017 by trayn0r
Toa Imrukii
I love Teal-Tuquose. Gosh I love that color. Any MOC with it is always a good site for me, but of course it isn't the only thing. This build is so resemblant of 2001's sets that it makes me very happy to see. Great work on this, even be it simple. 1 Quote Quote: "Love has no fear, and no vengeance." | :i: | Andekas ⴳ A RUDE AWAKENING - A BIONICLE G1 Continuation and Video Game Project (ARTIST AND CONCEPTUALIST) | I am an ENFP, that is my Personality. I was really trying to capture that 2001 aesthetic where the Rahi use a lot of technic for the bodies. I ordered some parts on BrickLink earlier today to make a purple version as a counterpart, as 2001 purple is also another great color that isn't used anymore. Toa Imrukii
[snip]Thanks so much! I was really trying to capture that 2001 aesthetic where the Rahi use a lot of technic for the bodies. I ordered some parts on BrickLink earlier today to make a purple version as a counterpart, as 2001 purple is also another great color that isn't used anymore.A real shame really that the violet color isn't around anymore. Another color I wish they still used is that Royal Blue from Knights Kingdom. That color was very nice to look at. But regardless it is always a pleasure and a privilege to not only see, but to be the creater of something that brings back long old treasured memories such as those from 2001. It was really a special time, and a unique one at that. One can only hope such emotions would return in some incarnate within modern LEGO, and they are certainly trying to invoke that feeling, but as is the Duty of the BIONICLE community, we the fans keep it alive. Such as this makes me so happy to see and really does prove the love that this community has, and it is not only a fantastic thing to see, but to also feel and be a part of. Again, this is just so great, and yet so simple. That is the really special quality of the theme. That something can be so simple get so awesome, and of course something big is awesome too no-less. ToaTImeLord
This is so cute! The design feels like an actual set you could buy. Also thank you for those instructions. The Invisible Handman
That's a pretty neat old style looking build. A solid colour scheme and a gear function means I give this my seal of approval. 1 Quote {Brickshelf Page - BZPRPG Profile - HFRPG Profile - Project Protodermis Profile}

It makes replicating techniques so much easier. 5/5 Thank you! I agree, this set could totally be some sort of polybag set. And I had some fun making those instructions, I was screwing around with Stud.io and tried to figure out how to use the feature that lets you sort a model by different building steps. So much more intuitive than the auto-generated instructions from Lego Digital Designer. That's a pretty neat old style looking build. A solid colour scheme and a gear function means I give this my seal of approval.Heh, thanks but the gears are just decorative. I want to try adding a gear function for moving the arms/legs with the worm gear but I have to wait for my BrickLink order to arrive since I have a limited pool of parts to use right now. Might try to make something using those fancy friction gears from Bionicle G2. Either way, stay tuned for some sort of redesign. And once my parts arrive, I'll be able to build a purple one and a mata red one. Kinda want to add a function to the tail, maybe a thornax launcher in place of the stinger...A+ for including the Miru.Haha I wish they had made more teal masks... Edit:One of my orders arrived today! Not enough parts to build a second one, but enough to modify the one I've made to make it purple. As you probably can see, I only got 2 Technic connector blocks in purple and didn't have one to use for the stinger tail, so when my other orders arrive the stinger will be replaced with a purple hand piece with a black thornax launcher c: Edited May 11, 2017 by trayn0r
The Invisible Handman
Well the launcher would help differentiate the tail from the leg's so that sounds like a good idea. I'll hold my full comments till I see the finished model though. trayn0r
After some procrastination, I've made a ton of changes to my design. Kinda regret making detailed instructions now that they're mostly obsolete... Anyways, the purple one has been the one I've been experimenting with. First off, made the design quadrupedal so it had better balance. Then, I realized I should probably try to make a gear function. After about 2-3 hours of experimenting with different designs, I realized there would be no way to have an internal gearbox while still having a way to attach the head piece for the "shell"/kanohi on the back. So, I decided on an external gearbox system.Definitely a little bulky, and I don't have any gears that properly fit the color scheme, but it's a start. After putting the rest of the build back together, I definitely think it was an upgrade.(The thornax launcher is also a fun little addition ) The gear function is nothing too special. All the limbs move in unison, though there is no lever/gear that can be turned to move the legs remotely. Here's a GIF of the function, I couldn't get the filesize low enough to embed it so I had to link it externally. Thanks to everybody for their comments and criticisms, I've been having a lot of fun getting back into building MOCs. The problem-solving aspect is so satisfying; I was ecstatic when I discovered a way to add a gear function after much trial and error. Next order of business: Find gears that fit the color scheme better, buy more purple and teal technic pin connector blocks (the "mata hand" pieces) so the back legs have a more consistent look and so I can make the upgrades to the teal Rahi too, and buy more technic ball joints. ToaTImeLord
I like the function of this one but I prefer the first one personally. To me it has a better look. PutYaGunsOn
The great thing is that these would not look out of place in MNOLG or the Bohrok animations. They fit in perfectly! That's just how I judge MOCs that are supposed to be 2001-2003-like. If they could fit in MNOLG and blend right in, they're good. trayn0r
I like the function of this one but I prefer the first one personally. To me it has a better look.Yeah, I'm kinda torn about it. I added black and purple gears for the purple guy, so the function looks a little less gaudy. The model is also overall more stable with 4 legs and the gear function has a fair amount of friction so the legs don't wobble very much. The great thing is that these would not look out of place in MNOLG or the Bohrok animations. They fit in perfectly! That's just how I judge MOCs that are supposed to be 2001-2003-like. If they could fit in MNOLG and blend right in, they're good. Thanks! That's flattering to say this would fit in MNOLG. Thanks for the step-by-step instruction. It makes replicating techniques so much easier. No problem, though I'm going to have to update those instructions eventually to show the gear function. My collection is starting to grow... can you tell I'm trying to collect Pakari colors now? Heh. The teal one is in retirement until I buy more technic and CCBS pieces. Until then, Kongu gets to keep his mask UPDATE: I've revamped the original post and created some instructions (not embeddable due to high image resolution) for the updated build.
