Power Rangers and Super Sentai!

Recommended Posts

Any other fans here?

I'm no expert, but I love Super Sentai.  I casually watched Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue and Ninja Storm as a kid, then lost all interest.  Watched Shinkenger when I was in high school and loved it.  Seen the 2017 movie and thought it was fun.  Read some of the Boom Studios comic (love it so far).  Finished Kyoryuger recently and am in the middle of Hurricanger.  Dabbled in Zyuranger, Dairanger, and Gekiranger (all of which I plan to finish after Hurricanger).  Interested in Liveman.

Oh, the memories. I grew up with Power Rangers, and watched pretty much the entire series up through to Ninja Storm. I ended up picking it up again with Dino Thunder-went back and watched Ninja Storm later-and stuck with it through to Mystic Force, at which point I decided I was done again...only to go back and watch more. Pretty much every series has had aspects that I like-I've always been a fan of the Zords/Mecha.

However, I must say that my view of the series has changed as I've gotten older and had the chance to review it with (hopefully) wiser eyes. I would say my biggest complaint is the way in which various female characters are depicted: the belly shirts, the low necklines, the suggestive armor/monster costumes, the tight outfits-not a fan in the slightest. The sad thing is I know a lot of it does come from Super Sentai and the differences in the Japanese culture-not that that makes it okay-but a lot of it is also purely American.

Voicing your opinions with tact is the best way to keep a discussion from becoming an argument.
So far as I'm aware, it's pronounced like this: We're ee ah moo.

Sentai and Kamen Rider are usually how I get my practical sfx fix, honestly. The fact I love martial arts cinema just endears me further to them. Don't really watch Power Rangers, though, since by the time Saban adapts it, I've long since seen the Sentai it adapts. That said, though, the last Sentai I watched to completion was Go-Busters.

Mecha designs for Sentai have been going steadily downhill, though. It's kind of a shame, since part of my enjoyment for Super Sentai is the mecha.

hate Ninninger's mecha design with a burning passion.  It's just a guy in a chair with limbs.  I like the Ninninger's suit designs themselves, as busy and over-the-top as they are (yes, even StarNinger with his cowboy hat and poncho), but I hate the mecha.

I'm not huge on Power Rangers either, but whenever I do watch anything Power Rangers-related, I love to play "Spot the Sentai Footage".
