Personally, I think the chest pieces are arguably less character-specific than the printed "name badges" of the 2.0 and 3.0 heroes, but it's true that unprinted leg and arm shells are more common than unprinted torso shells.The 1.0/Breakout helmets are more character-specific than the 2.0 and 3.0 helmets in some ways (not as much range of customization on a two-piece head and helmet than on a three-piece head, helmet, and helmet accessory), but then again that's one thing that some people like about them. I heard many criticisms of the 2.0 helmets for how generic they felt compared to the previous helmet designs. Anyway, BIONICLE masks also had fairly character-specific designs a lot of the time, and that didn't stop those from being used on all scores of MOCs.
