While it's easy to focus on big-box and online retailers, you shouldn't forget to stop by independent or franchised toy stores too. Case in point: this reporter spotted a Learning Express selling off their remaining stock of Friends and Star Wars Advent Calendars (and other Christmas-themed toys) at 50% off. This is your chance if you skipped this year's advent calendars because of their price points (or because you were too "cool" or too masculine to buy the Friends advent calendar before you found out that it's 500 pieces that make 24 large ornaments). Since Learning Express stores are franchises, expect pricing and availability to vary - at the King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania, both the Star Wars and Friends calendars were originally priced $5 above what you'd pay at the LEGO store - making their "50% off" merely a great bargain at roughly 40% off.
