IC: Tekmo (Tesara Marketplace)

"Yes Captain, it is imperative that you-WHAT IS THAT?!"

Tekmo rockets off to the nearest downed robot and eyeballs it suspiciously.

"MAXILOS." Tekmo sheepishly turns towards Captain Jira, raises his finger in a 'moment please' sort of fashion, and then rockets away from the scene.

GM IC: Marketplace Aftermath - Tesara.

"Uh... bye." Jira muttered, frowning at Tekmo's receding form. She and the medic departed towards the edge of the square, while another medic and quartet of guards bundled up the unconscious Vortixx and carried her off towards the guardhouse.

Elsewhere in the marketplace, other guards were gathering up the remnants of the fallen Maxilos robots, dumping the parts in a pile for engineers to sift through, disabling whatever parts still looked functional, and safely removing the remaining ammunition from their weapons. Uninjured witnesses were being rounded up in a cleared area off to one side, to give their testimonies, while the wounded were being escorted or stretched to the medical centre.

The bodies of those killed in the incident were being moved to the most distant corner of the market, away from the gathering crowds, and were being covered up with tarps and sheets. In the coming hours, someone would have to carry out the grim task of identifying all of the bodies, but for now, the focus was on clearing the area of wounded, and ensuring that there were no further dangers.

IC: Vrokdann - New Atero

"Well you see, my archives up here aren't the cleanest, if you know what I mean-", she tapped the top of her head with her left hand, the arm of which was fitted with pointy Protosteel claws. She paused to assimilate the minor pain, and then continued as if nothing happened. "...and I just appear to have yelled the archivist up there into an indefinite leave, so I'll have to dig through all that myself... Good thing you're sitting already."

She stood still for a bit, processing the questions made to her. Thinking and recalling things was quite the ordeal for Vrokdann, especially without "Drendakk" at the helms. She'd have to be honest in her uselessness.

"Okay then, one: unless one of them is a short fool who leaves people talking, I don't know them. Two... it's that weird place with the crazy light thing, right? I went there once to see a tournament, it was fine, not much to see otherwise. Three..."

That was a tough one.

"...it used to be big and wet. Now it's big, wet and dangerous. Look, I'm not the one for recalling and talking and taking notes and all that, but if you need some people intimidated, some doors brought down, a mountain moved, the entire fortress lifted... I'll be at the parking lot."

The figure's patience, or at least its self-control, was impressive. All that time she had been digging through her wrecked mind, he had listened thoroughly and taken some notes. Vrokdann would be willing to collaborate with someone like that. She hoped he caught on the invitation.

" And it's Dren...", she felt her mind heavier all of a sudden. "Drendakk" was back. "...Vrokdann, by the way. Keep "sweetie-pie" for your little friends or the offer's gone, okay?"

She left the place in a straight line, attempting to leave a good impression.

- Uh... Vrokdann? The parking lot's the other way around...-

OOC: Vrokdann's in a good mood. If anybody wants to talk to her, now's the time.

I'm Vrokdann in Skyrise: Ascent, and Luntep in the BZPRPG.

--IC: Bacchus: New Atero--

As the Skakdi woman talked, Bacchus scribbled notes in the margins of his notebook, recording what meager information she could provide on the three subjects. It wasn't much, that was for sure, but it was still better than nothing. In a small corner of the page detailing Varim and Barlow, he recorded her name- Vrokdann, a nice name- as well as instructions to contact her about door-breaking and to not call her "sweetie-pie."

"I will keep that in mind," he called after Vrokdann as she left. His words trailed off as he realized she was no longer paying attention to him. His face fell; he still had a few questions for her.

Oh well. No point moping over it.

Having had his way with the mysterious missives, Bacchus closed up the Horse with No Name's desk and was just about to return the original copies to the notice board, when out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a being struggling to balance several containers of stuff. Ever one to try and get involved in others' business, he slapped the papers on the board and hurried to intercept them.

"Need a hand?" he asked, holding out his arms to hopefully receive some of the weight.

IC: Mirror - Tesara Marketplace

Mirror was helping dig some wares out of the rubble when he noticed the Vortixx moving out. "Excuse me," he muttered to the other guards, and hurried to the guardhouse to watch the proceedings with the Vortixx.

IC: Kaenis - New Atero Notice Board

Kaenis took a quick look over her shoulder, then just as quickly hid her (twisted) face behind hunched shoulders and boxes. "Uh, yeah, um... I... just meant to make a quick stop." She chuckled softly at herself, and eased a couple bags from her tail into the Agori's waiting arms.

--IC: Bacchus: New Atero--

The bags were a tad heavier than he had expected, but his arms were sturdy, and the other being seemed to step easier now.  Bacchus happily trailed behind her to her destination.

As he walked behind her, he studied her, taking in every detail.  Scaly orange skin, indicating either reptilian or amphibian origin.  The finned tail led credence to the latter, but the barbs that lined it appeared irregular, as if they were the result of some sort of genetic oddity.  They certainly weren't decorative, like the similarly spiky silver armor she wore.  Shoulders were hunched, indicating either a surly disposition or a desire to not be noticed... or to give some clearance to the Rhotuka spinner on her back.  Back-mounted spinners only occurred in a certain variety of subspecies, one whose very existence hinged on genetic oddities.

There was no doubt about it: this lady had come into contact with Hordika venom.

But of course, Bacchus would not say anything about it.  At least, not right away.  He just kept on trundling behind the lady, carrying her bags.

IC: Kaenis - Trading Sector (New Atero)

She could feel his eyes on her (revolting) back, and it was beginning to make her uncomfortable. Her tail wavered back and forth, trying to cover what it could. She wished she was back to the Benevolence and could leave this place behind for the open skies. She wished she could just curl up in a corner.

“So, you’rrrrrrgh...” Kaenis coughed, trying to cover the growl that lingered in her throat. “...you’re not trying to rrrob me, are you? I mean, you don’t usually find people who offer to carry your groceries!”

IC: Garuda - Tesara Outskirts

A few more moments of silent watching, then one of the braver Zesk, one Garuda called “Zeke”, crept forward. <Up there. What?> he chittered in the Zesk language.

<Many people. Many givings.> Garuda replied fluently. <Then...> “BOOM!” Several of the Zesk retreated to their hiding places again as Garuda held up her hands and stomped around in a brilliant mimicry of the robot attackers. <...enemies!>

To his credit, Zeke held his ground for the most part. <Gone now?>

Garuda shrugged and dropped back to all fours. <Gone.>

GM IC: Marketplace Aftermath - Tesara.

While the captain of the guard had her injuries treated, and the other wounded were escorted to medical help, guards scoured the grounds for any sign of further attackers or anything else suspicious. As the area was steadily cleared, life slowly started to return to the undamaged parts of the marketplace, with stallholders and customers starting to engage in exchanges again... though the mood was markedly more subdued now.

The unconscious Vortixx was escorted to the guardhouse and - after being checked by a medic and searched for weapons - was placed in one of the cells, four guards taking up position outside.

Elsewhere, two matoran tracked down an aircraft parked in an alleyway and took up ambush positions nearby, waiting for its owner to return.

--IC: Bacchus: New Atero--

"Rob you?"  Bacchus was scandalized by the question.  "Why, of course not!  Why would I ever consider doing such a thing against a fascinating creature like yourself?  Or anyone, for that matter?"  Some might interpret his reply as flirting, but however one interpreted it, it was a genuine compliment: she really did fascinate him.  "No ma'am, I'm just trying to get more involved in the community, you know?"  That was true, if meddling in affairs trying to solve mysteries counted as helping.

IC: Tekmo (Tesara Marketplace)

"Ah, Captain." Tekmo pops back out of nowhere. "Sorry about disappearing on you, but I thought I'd check the bulletin board for new information on Xaril, or any of the other Fe remnants, since we were just attacked by their metallic minions, and... well, there's something rather suspect.

There's a map of the Barren, with an 'X' in the middle of the Black Spike Mountains, with the words 'Iron Never Dies', scribbled in the corner... coincidence?"

GM IC: Jira - Tesara Marketplace Medical Tent.

Tekmo would find Jira in a chair in the makeshift medical centre that had been set up in the least damaged corner of the marketplace. One of her arms was in a sling, and a few other bandages covered her other injuries. At the ranger's words, her brow furrowed, "That is... suspicious. Given the brazen nature of this attack, I certainly wouldn't put a public notice past them. Thank you for informing me."

Something in her tone makes it sound like she's in no hurry to act on Tekmo's information...

IC: Akkitu- Tesara Market

Akkitu walked up to the bulletin board after seeing being scrutinized by an Agori, who looked espicially concerned with some bit of information on it. He looked it over, and then noticed the map.

"Iron never dies?" he read. "I suspected as much. Fe seems to be back."

IC: Tacitus - Tesara

Taurek was about to have another problem, how ever, as from a side alley ahead of him, Tacitus appeared, now standing directly in the path.

"Steltan. We need to talk." His deep rumbling voice carried an effortlessly threatening no-nonsense tone.

IC: Drukann - Capstone Bar

"I know, super sappy, and unnecessarily vague. But clearly whatever built that hunk of junk we once called our universe is invested in, if not those exact principles the small folk held so dear, then at least the general idea of three. Gotta say, thinking back, there was a lot of that going on. And... well, now that I think about it more, there's something just recently that number applies to as well." Drukann paused his tirade, looking into Kastir's eyes with a hope she might understand what he was referring to.

GM IC: Jira - Medical Tent, Tesara Marketplace.

"One of these days I'm going to pay someone overtime to watch for whoever keeps replacing that stupid note," Jira muttered, filing that plan away for a less pressing date, "My arm's fine."

"Your arm is broken." The medic corrected.

"My arm is still attached to my body, and should heal properly if you do your job." Jira replied, "So in my book, that's fine."

"That's not exactly an official medical diagnosis..."

"Anyway..." she turned her attention back to Tekmo, "...thank you, earnestly, for bringing that possible Fe lead to my attention. In a few days, maybe, once the fallout has been dealt with, I'll try to send out a scouting party to follow up on it."

GM IC: Commander Coyle - The Indomitable, above New Atero.

Coyle's time on the aircraft carrier had been fairly relaxed. After his tour with the captain, he'd gone for a little wander of his own, just enjoying the sights and sounds. It was rare for him to have an opportunity to simply observe the city from above, without having to worry about barking orders at someone or keeping control of his own aircraft. Alas, like most indulgent moments in his life, the peace didn't last long.

A panicked messenger soon landed on the carrier, rushing to Coyle's side. He kept his voice low, hoarsely whispering the news that Coyle had been expectantly dreading, but hoping he wouldn't have to hear.

Grimacing, he hurried off to find Toruhn. He needed to make use of the ship's speaking tubes...

IC: Zeiral - Tesara Marketplace (Bulletin Board)

Zeiral had awoken as the sun rose, he had spent the night on a rocky outcropping safe from the creatures below & hard to access from the cliff face above. He had always heard about Tesara from several traders he knew but he had never been there. He had always stayed out of the way, not wanting to risk the large amount of salvage he had always been carrying while passing through the area. Now he wasn't bound the that path, he was free for the first time in years. With his new found freedom Zeiral decided that he would go see this place he had heard so much about. He came in for landing and set down the Scarab out of the way. He took the keys & some essentials from the cargo space. He then locked the hatch and disconnected the ignition coil just to be safe.

"That should do it" he thought to himself.

Zerial wandered though alleys towards the center of Tesara. Something did seem off though, a settlement this large should be much more active, the tone of what few people he did see was subdued at best. Finally he came to the Marketplace and was greeted with a level of unexpected destruction and more guards than he expected. He suspected something had happened before he arrived that morning. Normally he would observe, hoping to gleam answers from the actions of others, but he had no time for that today.

Zeiral made his way to a large noticeboard looking for answers. "Excuse me... You, frigid one. What happened here?" Zeiral asked a Ko-matoran who seemed to be scrutinizing the board.

OOC: Zeiral is attempting to ask Akkitu what has happened.

"It could be a trap. Or a false lead. Or a staging area for whatever's left of Fe." Jira retorted, "My priority is keeping the people of this village safe, and in case you didn't notice, I didn't exactly have great success with that today. I'm not going to officially commit any of our forces to a wayward expedition several hours away until I'm certain the village is safe. If you want to risk your own neck, on your own time, I'm not going to stop you, but I'm also not going to be held responsible if things go wrong."

IC Indomitable - New Atero Airspace:

As if summoned by the narrative need, one such speaking tube seemingly abruptly appeared nearby the Commander, jutting from near one of the crew stations he had been nearby.

Not literally, of course, the metal cone had been there all along, and had simply only now been registered in the good Commander's consciousness.

I regret to inform you that a small... situation... has arisen in the city that would benefit from the attention of some of the able-bodied men and women on this vessel. There's a staging area in the residential district. You'll know it when you see it."

Sighing, he stepped away from the speaking tube, and started making his way back towards where his aircraft was berthed.

IC Toruhn - Indomitable - New Atero Skies:

On command, the Indomitable became, if possible, even noisier as Commander Coyle's orders were distributed across the ship. The cacophony of moving beings and echoing orders through the very walls of the ship reached a fever pitch as mechanics finished up last minute repairs and jury rigging, sent ships and personnel up the lift to the flight deck, ready to launch either via proper aircraft or smaller jetpacks. Every man and woman on board the craft was itching to test the capabilities of their new workplace and jumped almost literally at the chance when offered. As the din continued around the ship, Captain Toruhn showed up once more by the Commander's side, "What's the situation, Commander?"

While waiting for his laconic companion to offer his own name in return, Temujin found his gaze drawn upwards to the sky, and to the airship that floated serenely in it. Well, it certainly had been serene, anyway, something like a a calm beehive. Now it seemed more like a hive of wasps hovering angrily in the air, disgorging soldiers and workers alike. "Well, I wonder what could have them all in a tizzy, eh?" He spoke aloud.

"...I understand, Captain." Tekmo backs out of the medical tent.

Back at the message board, he takes out his own map of the Barren, placing his own X where the one on the 'Iron Never Dies' map was.

To his left, there wis a dark blue Matoran of indeterminate element (Akkitu) and a tailless Zesk (Zeiral) discussing the attack.

"Could you, perhaps, describe the attack in more detail for me?" He asks the Matoran. "I was unfortunately not present for the attack, and the only eye-witness I've heard from so far was unconscious for most of it."

OOC: Now Tekmo is also asking Akkitu what happened.

IC: Tacitus - Tesara

"That Vortixx, the one you knelt down by earlier. How do you know her?" The half-armoured Elite Skrall inquired. "And furthermore... what do you know about the attack?"

IC: Porangi - From Fe to New Atero

It had taken some effort, some brainstorming, and finally some compromise, but Porangi had finally managed to get Barlow into his ship... well, Barlow's head, at least. No matter how the Zyglak looked at this situation, even if he had something to tie the dead Steltan Brute to his aircraft, it would likely never be able to take off with all that extra weight. It was barely air-worthy as it was, and only just compensating for it with those glider wings every once in a while. And so Porangi had conceded that, no, he wasn't going to be able to bring the whole corpse to New Atero... but he could bring the next best thing. And so, removing the head, stuffing it the best he could into the only free compartment on his ship, and hiding the rest of the body the best he could underneath some rubble too big and useless for any looter to take it, he started his ship's engines and set off for New Atero.

It was as he passed close by the Chasm that he remembered his close brush with death some years ago... that had been a rather eventful day. Made a lot of pit stops along the way, dropped in on some conversations inadvertently, dropped into the Chasm...

Porangi shuddered a bit at the experience, not in the least due to how little he felt it had affected him back then.

Then he'd made a rough landing at New Atero, made every wrong choice when dealing with the subsequent intervention of law enforcement... oh, that's where he was going now, wasn't it? New Atero... Porangi wondered if they remembered him and what he'd done. There was a deep, Barlow's head sized pit in his stomach, and he almost felt like he could throw up.

He then expelled the meagre contents of his stomach off the side of his ship, groggily watching it disperse into the wind to hopefully bother no one. He then returned his attention to the controls of the Clanka-Clunk which was starting to veer down a bit, which was never good news. Fortunately he was able to right it... just in time for the engines to once more give out and flutter off.

Cursing the blasted piece of scrap, Porangi deployed the ship's glider wings before getting out of his seat to start checking the on the engines for whatever had stopped them this time. The rustbucket slowly but surely started to veer down once more, all the while Porangi did his best to whack, turn, and screw into place some loose components, before trying ignite the thing again. Nothing. So he turned his attention back to the engine, searching high and low for what ever it was that prevented its operation.

Finally, after ripping out some frayed wiring and bent screws that seemed to have gotten caught in the main turbine, and bending some of the bits back into place, Porangi got back in his seat and tried to ignite the engines once more, this time sighing with relief as they whirred to life, only to yelp in surprise and dismay as he noticed the ground rapidly approaching.

Pulling off a nail biting manoeuvre where he just barely managed to turn the ship upwards before it could crash, the ship's underbelly skidding off a low peak on its upward climb, Porangi slunk back into his seat as he once more managed to stave off the ever encroaching claws of oblivion.

And with that, New Atero soon came into view.

IC: Akkitu- Tesara Market, talking with Tekmo and Zerial

"It was just a normal day at the market. People were hanging out together, and shopping. I was at this very board when we were attacked. It started with several large explosions, and everybody who had a weapon or a ship walked or flew to the scene of the battle. There were three Maxilos robots- wearing cloaks for some reason- firing Electro-Rockets at the market stalls. One of them seemed to be looking for something. I was in my Jetrax firing at them. I hit one, and it blew a large crater into the ground. After that, I landed my ship and confronted the robots face-to-face with the Tesaran Guard and a couple of Ga-Matoran. One of the remaining Maxilos started dueling a guardsman named Mirror. I helped him fight it, while the Ga-Matoran attacked the other, one of whom ended up ramming the robot with her own head! We were eventually able to defeat them, but not before a good deal of the marketplace was destroyed. While cleaning up the remains of the battle, I found a piece of an Electro-Rocket. It might be a clue to whoever sent the robots in the first place," said Akkitu, recounting the battle. He also held out the rocket shell to Tekmo and Zerial.
