Hapori Tohu
Yesterday The LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation announced that they are piloting special bricks with different patterns of studs on the top to help visually impaired children learn braille. Since the writing system uses a two-by-three grid of dots, using the studs on the top of basic two-by-four bricks allows all symbols to be represented while keeping it compatible with other LEGO bricks. As announced in the press release, the bricks are currently being tested in Danish, Norwegian, English, and Portuguese environments, with German, Spanish, and French coming later this year. The goal is for the final product to be released for free to educational institutions in 2020. This seems like an awesome development that hopefully leads to additional forays into this area.
