LEGOLAND-Operator Merlin Going Private with Backing from LEGO

Business business business. It's what makes the world go 'round. Back in 2005, when The LEGO Group was struggling, they sold their LEGOLAND theme parks to Merlin Entertainments while KIRKBI, the Kristiansen family company that still owns TLG to this day, received a stake in Merlin. In 2013, Merlin went public and began being traded on the London Stock Exchange. Now, Merlin and its shareholders have agreed to a private buyout by KIRKBI, Blackstone, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, which makes Merlin privately-owned again, with a large portion of that ownership being held by the family that owns LEGO.
